Taylor Swift's First Date Question To Travis Kelce

Taylor Swift's First Date Question To Travis Kelce

Buzz Feed17 hours ago
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's relationship is over the first yard line.
(That's a football reference, btw.)
The pop star and Kansas City Chiefs tight end have come a long way since they started dating back in 2023. Fast forward to 2025, and now Taylor's a special guest on Travis's podcast with his brother Jason, New Heights, admitting the embarrassing question she asked on their first date.
Taylor's appearance on an Aug. 13 episode was major because she announced her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, a monumental occasion for any fan of her music. But if you're part of the crossover crowd like me (Swiftie-adjacent football fan), her story about their first date became your Roman Empire.
The "Karma" singer praised Travis for being "non judgmental" because she wasn't always privy to football culture. She was a stranger to the inner workings of the NFL when they met.
"On our first date, I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field, across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing on the other like five feet in front of him on the field," Taylor said.
If you don't understand why that is a ridiculous question. Don't worry, no judgment here. But it's a wild question because Travis and Jason's positions aren't on the field at the same time.
Taylor now knows "what an insane" question that was, saying Travis "didn't even look at me."
"He was like, 'Actually, I'm on the offense and my brother is on the offense. I'm only on the field the same time as the defense,'" she said, quietly admitting, "I thought everyone was on there at the same time."
Taylor apparently thought the quarterbacks faced off against each other. "I thought it was like Jared Goff is here and Josh Allen's here... and they blow a whistle and they go at each other."
It won't happen because Jared and Josh are both quarterbacks and offensive players.
"I didn't know what a first down was. I didn't know what the chains were. I didn't know what a tight end was," Taylor added.
Travis praised Taylor's newfound dedication to the game. "I'm forever thankful for you diving into football wholeheartedly."
Taylor said she "fell in love" with the sport and is now "obsessed" with football. "I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, 'We drafted Xavier Worthy!'" she said, referring to the wide receiver picked by the Chiefs in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. "My friends are like, 'Who bodysnatched you? What do you mean?'"
Travis, Taylor, and Jason talked more than just football on the New Heights podcast, revealing that Life of a Showgirl is out on Oct. 3 and will be produced alongside Max Martin and Shellback. Taylor also unveiled the much-anticipated tracklist.
If you were in the same boat as Taylor and just learned something new about football, don't stress. There's A LOT of rules. I'm just looking forward to the sequel of this podcast where Travis explains what he did and didn't know about the lore of Taylor's nearly two-decade career.

'Chiefs Kingdom' had best Taylor Swift reactions from Travis Kelce teammates

A behind-the-scenes look at the Kansas City Chiefs premiered this week with the first episode of the ESPN docuseries "Chiefs Kingdom" debuting on Thursday. The six-episode series is centered around last season's Super Bowl run by the Chiefs, with a focus on the team's history and head coach Andy Reid. But recent Chiefs content also means we get more insight into tight end Travis Kelce and his then-new relationship with pop star Taylor Swift. The 14-time Grammy winner started dating Kelce in the summer of 2023, with the singer attending several home and some away games for Kansas City over the last two seasons. Swift, who just broke the internet with her 2-hour podcast with Kelce and his brother Jason on New Heights this week, garnered attention when she went to her first Chiefs game in September of 2023. Interviews with defensive tackle Chris Jones and quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the series discussed exactly that moment that they realized Kelce did, in fact, get Swift to come to a game. "Taylor Swift's here? For real? With Travis? Oh my god!" Jones said during an interview in the episode. "We were like, 'Oh my god, Travis pulled Taylor Swift!'" Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Brothers Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce may be in for a big pay day following their New Heights podcast interview with Taylor Swift. Newsweek reached out to New Heights' YouTube channel via email for comment on Friday. Why It Matters On Tuesday, Swift, 35—who has been dating Travis since 2023—announced her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, in a teaser video for Wednesday's New Heights episode. The pop star, whose net worth is approximately $1.6 billion, per Forbes, dropped the news after months of album speculation. It also came on the heels of her wildly popular Eras Tour, which broke 18 records during its 21-month run. What To Know Swift's New Heights episode on YouTube currently has over 15 million views. While it's unclear exactly how much the Kelce siblings will earn from the two-hour interview, Business Insider previously reported that YouTube videos with 1 million plus views could earn creators thousands. In their article titled: "How Much Money YouTube Pays for 1 Million Views, According to 3 Creators," YouTubers Semide ASMR, Jade Darmawangsa and Shelby Church shared their earnings. "Semide has two videos with over 1 million views on YouTube and a few others just below that mark. Typically, these videos will earn between $2,500 to $4,000 in ad revenue, she said in December 2020," Business Insiderreported. "One of Semide's most popular videos had about 1.1 million views and had earned about $3,470, according to a screenshot of her dashboard viewed by Insider." In Darmawangsa's case, "Her video titled 'How to grow on Instagram' had earned about $3,600, from 1.2 million views, when Insider viewed a screenshot of her dashboard in May 2020." As for Church, "a YouTuber who had about 1.6 million subscribers when she spoke with Insider in 2020, videos with about 1 million views had earned her between $2,000 and $30,000 depending on the video subject, she told Insider in January 2020." Last year, the Kelces reportedly signed a $100 million podcast deal with Wondery, Amazon's podcast streamer. Jason Kelce, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles for 13 seasons, announced his retirement in March. In addition to podcasting, the 37-year-old is also an analyst on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown and hosts the network's late-night talk show called They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce. Travis Kelce is a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and was named one of the highest-paid NFL players in 2024 by Forbes. According to the outlet, football generates approximately $17.1 million for him, while his off-field income is estimated at $35 million. "The largest chunk of Kelce's money will come from the New Heights podcast he co-hosts with his brother," Forbes reported. The 35-year-old is also the host of Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? and has dabbled in acting, most recently starring in Happy Gilmore 2. YouTube announces halftime performer for first NFL live broadcast

YouTube's first-ever exclusive NFL broadcast game will welcome Grammy-winning Colombian singer Karol G as the halftime performer. The week 1 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers will take place September 5 at the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. It will also be the first NFL game to take place in South America. 'I'm so excited to be part of YouTube's first-ever NFL live broadcast, it's truly an honor and a moment I'm so proud to be part of,' Karol G, 34, said in a statement. 'I've watched many NFL halftime shows over the years and now having this opportunity to bring my music to this global stage means the world to me,' the global recording artist added. 'I can't wait to celebrate with everyone in São Paulo and fans all around the world.' The game will be free to stream on YouTube, with pre-game coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET and the kickoff expected at 8 p.m. ET. This partnership between YouTube and the NFL marks the latest push by streamers to break into sports broadcasting. Last year, Netflix hosted its inaugural two-game NFL Christmas Gameday event, which saw the Chiefs take on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens take on the Houston Texans. 'This broadcast is a landmark moment in our partnership with the NFL, where the worlds of football, music and creators will powerfully collide,' said Angela Courtin, VP of connected TV and creative studio marketing at YouTube, in a statement. Besides Karol G, other artists performing at the game are local Brazilian star Ana Castela, who will sing the country's National Anthem, Hino Nacional Brasileiro, and award-nominated American composer and jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, who will perform the U.S. National Anthem. The broadcast will also feature some of the world's most popular YouTube creators. Karol G's performance comes on the heels of her latest album release, Tropicoqueta. The 20-track record is her fifth overall, after Mañana Será Bonito (2023), KG0516 (2021), Ocean (2019), and Unstoppable (2017). Karol G is widely considered to be one of the most influential reggaeton and urban pop artists. In 2024, she made history as the first woman to win the Grammy for best música urbana, a moment that reflected changing perceptions of reggaetón and Latin hip-hop as exclusively 'men's music.' 'You know, I feel a lot of responsibility about that,' she told The Associated Press at the time. 'As a woman, I have to say, like in my experience, it was tough, like so many things, to be a girl in this industry, in the music that I do, in urban music.'
