Indian Army rescues around 500 pilgrims stranded on Amarnath Yatra route due to landslides

Jammu, July 17 (UNI) The Indian Army today rescued about 500 Amarnath pilgrims who were stranded because of landslides triggered by heavy rains and shifted them to safer places.
"Yesterday around 7:25 pm, persistent rain triggered a landslide at Z Morh, between Rayalpathri and Brarimarg, resulting in the halting of Yatra movement and stranding a large number of pilgrims," said Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal.
"Responding to the situation, the Army detachment deployed at Brarimarg swung into action," he added.
Around 500 yatris stranded in the area were accommodated in tents and provided with tea and drinking water, adding, "additionally, another 3,000 pilgrims found refuge in langars located between Brarimarg and Z Morh, which offered essential shelter and sustenance."
The Indian Army Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) rescued a critically ill stranded yatri by undertaking a manual stretcher evacuation under adverse weather conditions and safely transported the patient to Rayalpathri from where an ambulance moved the individual for further medical care, he added.
The spokesperson said the camp director at Brarimarg and the company commander of the Indian Army are present at the site and have assessed the situation as stable and under control, adding, "efforts continue to ensure the safety and well-being of all yatris in the area."
As per weather prediction, light rains at both Rayalpathri and Brarimarg are likely, and the Army remains on high alert to respond to any evolving situation, he said.
"These prompt actions are yet another testament to the Indian Army's professionalism, dedication, and humanitarian commitment during Amarnath Yatra 2025, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with every pilgrim through every challenge", said the spokesperson.

Over 3.83 lakh perform Amarnath Yatra in 25 days, thousands more head to shrine

Srinagar: Over 3.83 lakh pilgrims have so far undertaken the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, with 12 days left for the annual Himalayan pilgrimage to end. This year's Amarnath Yatra has seen a heavy rush of enthusiastic devotees to the holy cave shrine in a highly secured, peaceful and smooth environment. Officials said another batch of 1,490 Yatris left Jammu in two escorted convoys for Kashmir on Tuesday. Of these, the first convoy of 16 vehicles carrying 327 pilgrims left at 3.25 a.m. for Baltal base camp, while the second convoy of 45 vehicles carrying 1,163 Yatris left at 3.57 a.m. for Pahalgam base camp. The 'Chhari Pujan' of Lord Shiva's holy mace (Chhari Mubarak) is being celebrated in Amareshwar Temple in Srinagar on this day, on 'Nag Panchami'. The final journey of the Chhari Mubarak towards the holy cave shrine will start on August 4. The 'Chhari Mubarak' is traditionally housed inside the Amareshwar Temple at the Dashnami Akhara Building in the Budshah Chowk area of Srinagar city. It is the journey of the Chhari Mubarak that determines the landmarks of the Amarnath Yatra. It will start its final journey towards the cave shrine from the Amareshwar temple in Srinagar on August 4 and will reach the holy cave shrine on August 9, marking the official conclusion of the Yatra. During its journey from its seat to the holy cave shrine, traditional Puja will be held en route at Pampore, Bijbehara, Mattan and Pahalgam before the Chhari Mubarak arrives at its final destination, the holy cave shrine. Authorities have made extensive multi-tier security arrangements for this year's Amarnath Yatra, as this takes place after the cowardly attack of April 22 in which Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 civilians after segregating them based on faith in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam. An additional 180 companies of CAPFs have been brought in to augment the existing strength of the Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB and the local police. The Army has deployed over 8,000 special commandos to secure the passage of the pilgrims this year. The Yatra started on July 3 and will end after 38 days on August 9, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. Yatris approach the holy cave shrine situated 3888 metres above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas either from the traditional Pahalgam route or the shorter Baltal route. Those using the Pahalgam route pass through Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panchtarni to reach the cave shrine, covering a distance of 46 km on foot. This trek takes a pilgrim four days to get to the cave shrine. And, those using the shorter Baltal route have to trek 14 km to reach the cave shrine and return to the base camp the same day after having darshan. No helicopter services are available to Yatris this year due to security reasons. The cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that wanes and waxes with the phases of the moon. Devotees believe that the ice stalagmite structure symbolises the mythical powers of Lord Shiva.

Nitish Kumar to inaugurate new Buddhist landmark in Bihar on July 29

Patna, July 28 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa in Vaishali tomorrow. Buddhist monks and followers from 15 countries will witness this historic moment. Spread over 72 acres, this monument made of pink stones is a sacred site for Lord Buddha's relic urn. With an environmentally sensitive design and filled with spiritual energy, this site will establish Vaishali as a prominent place on the global Buddhist map. In a message posted on social media platform 'X' on Monday, Nitish Kumar said: 'It is a matter of great pleasure to announce that the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa, Vaishali, is set to be inaugurated on Tuesday. Buddhist followers and monks from around 15 countries worldwide are coming to Bihar for this inauguration ceremony. This will be a moment of pride for all of us in Bihar.' The foundation stone of the stupa was laid by Nitish Kumar on February 19, 2019. He has taken keen interest in the project and monitored its construction at every stage to ensure that the monument evolves into a unique place of worship for the Buddhist community. The sacred relic casket of Lord Buddha, the main focal point of the memorial, has been placed on the first floor of the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa. The relics of Lord Buddha were obtained from six places, among which the relics found at Vaishali's Mud Stupa are considered the most authentic, as mentioned by the Chinese traveller Xuanzang in his book. The Bihar CM pointed out that Vaishali is a historical and mythological land that gave the world its first republic. It has also been a land of women's empowerment. For the first time, women were included in the Buddhist Sangha here. 'This stupa is a grand symbol of Bihar's cultural heritage and global Buddhist legacy. The Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa will not only establish Vaishali prominently on the global Buddhist map but will also provide a new direction to tourism, culture, and employment,' he added.
