Enzo Maresca told Chelsea players have been sold by TEXT as club's busy transfer wheeling and dealing is laid bare
The Blues boss admitted the first he knew about midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu being sold to Burnley was when a staff member told him the news the morning after the £23.2m deal was completed.

Ugochukwu had been training away from the first-team squad, along with fellow exiles like Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell.
Maresca said: 'The situation, I think, is quite clear. They are training. I guess they are waiting for a solution.
'But when they leave, it's just the club that they text me or they call me.
'It was just mentioned to me that Lesley joined Burnley.
'I have this kind of news from the club because I don't pay attention to the ones that are training and need to leave.
'I just focus on how we prepare the session, how we can win games.'
For Maresca, it really is a case of out of sight, out of mind.
Chelsea have been busy selling and sending players out on loan to create a manageable squad for him.
As SunSport revealed, before the recent flurry of outgoings, the Blues had at least 46 first team players on their books.
Striker Armando Broja is set to follow Ugochukwu to Burnley, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has joined Everton.
Renato Veiga and Carney Chukwuemeka are also up for sale and training away from the first-team group.
Chelsea are facing a unique challenge after a back-to-front pre-season.
The players who won the Club World Cup had a three-week break before returning to training only on Monday this week.
The Blues are trying to find the balance between having a big enough squad to cope with the start of the new season and asking Maresca to manage too many players.
The Chelsea head coach said: 'For sure, it's much better to work with 25 players than more, than the biggest number.
'In this moment, we are working with the ones that we want. And we will see [what happens] from now until the transfer window is finished.'

Yoane Wissa's future needs to be resolved soon – Brentford boss Keith Andrews
Brentford boss Keith Andrews does not know how Yoane Wissa's transfer situation will play out. Wissa was not involved in Sunday's Premier League opener at Nottingham Forest, where the Bees went down to a 3-1 defeat. The 28-year-old wants to follow Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard out of the club during the summer transfer window, with Newcastle strongly linked with a bid, and Andrews said before the match he was not in the right head space to play. 'It's a day-by-day one in terms of Wiss,' the Irishman said. 'As far as I know nothing else has happened today, definitely didn't yesterday, so as it was really. 'I have no idea what the situation will be, I have been up here since yesterday so we will deal with that during the week. 'Hopefully it can resolve itself sooner rather than later.' Andrews, whose first game in management could not have gone much worse as Forest rampaged to a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to Chris Wood's double and Dan Ndoye's header, insists the club-record signing of Dango Ouattara will not start a domino effect of movement. 'I don't see it, I see Dango as Bryan's replacement in terms of that area of the pitch, I see him as a versatile forward that I am really happy we have managed to get on board,' Andrews added, after seeing Igor Thiago score a second-half penalty. 'We weren't really aware he would be available, as soon as we knew it was a pretty easy decision to get him on board. 'Thankfully the club have been able to do that and it is a really significant investment for us. It will be a brilliant investment.' Forest made a mockery of Nuno Espirito Santo's pre-match worries. Nuno expressed his 'concern' for the campaign ahead of the match, citing a lack of options in his squad. After new signings Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee were unveiled before kick-off, their new team-mates put on a show. But Nuno says the display does not change Forest's situation, with Arnaud Kalimuendo having a medical ahead of a move from Rennes and links to Juventus' Douglas Luiz and Manchester City's Rico Lewis. 'The needs of the squad are still there, it doesn't change anything,' he said. 'We are going to go day-by-day. 'We still need. Hopefully this work continues. The sooner we settle down the squad the better. 'The club knows the needs of the squad so we have to be patient and see. The faster they come, the better. 'This week a lot of things are going to happen, not only Forest, I think a lot of teams are still operating in the market. We have to wait and be patient. 'Of course (I feel better). It doesn't change, the needs are clear, the club knows. Now I am delighted, I just want to go home and celebrate because it is a beautiful start to the season. I couldn't have expected better than this.'

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca issues blunt transfer statement after Crystal Palace draw
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was asked about the possibility of signing a new defender beffore the end of the month after the Blues' latest injury issue ahead of their Premier League opener Enzo Maresca offered a curt reply when asked about the prospect of signing a new defender following his side's goalless draw against Crystal Palace. The Italian refused to speak about the issue despite picking up another defensive injury in the build up to the Blues' first Premier League match of the season. Tosin Adarabioyo was the latest figure to make it onto Chelsea's injury list after he was expected to be the man to replace Levi Colwill in Maresca's starting XI. Colwill is expected to miss most of the season after undergoing surgery on an ACL injury picked up in training after the squad returned for pre-season. Against the Eagles, Chelsea's head coach opted to utilise 19-year-old defender Josh Acheampong in the heart of defence alongside Trevoh Chalobah. The academy star put in a strong performance on the way to a clean sheet but following Tosin's injury, the question over Maresca's defensive options remains. Speaking on Friday, the ex-Manchester CIty coach revealed that he wanted a new central defender but that the club would look to internal options. Maresca said: "I think we need a central defender. We are looking for an internal solution but as I said, the club know exactly what I think." But when the subject was broached at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Maresca had no interest in adding more fuel to the topic. "You like to talk about central defenders?" he asked the reporter. "I already spoke. Thank you very much." The Blues took just a point from their opening game as they failed to score in a Premier League home game for the first time in 2025. Maresca had some praise for Crystal Palace and is not panicking just yet about his side's performance. "Tough game, we expected a tough game," said Maresca. "Apart from the first half free-kick, we didn't concede any chances but they are a very good team. "We could have counter attacked better, we could have defended better but it is only the first game of the season." The Chelsea boss is unsure when Tosin will be available to him once again. "He had a physical problem, we don't know for how long," he said. "Wes [Fofana] was on the bench, but he was just on the bench to be with us. The plan was not to get any minutes. And now, hopefully for the next one, we can start to use Wes for more minutes." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
