He's this year's Legends slot act, joining a long list of iconic performers who've taken on the prestigious role.
In a new interview with the Radio Times, the singer opened up about the cost of making his Glastonbury comeback – a staggering £300,000.
Sir Rod has been touring in the United States, a post that has meant his crew, staging, and equipment are all currently across the Atlantic.
The logistics of transporting everything back for the UK festival haven't come cheap.
He told the magazine: "It was about eight months ago when I was asked to do it, maybe a little longer. But it didn't fit with my schedule because I've got to bring everybody back from America.
"It's going to cost me £300,000 to do it and they only pay you about 120,000 quid. So it's going to cost me."
Despite the financial hit, Sir Rod is clearly not fazed by the expense.
For him, the chance to take on the Glastonbury Legends slot is well worth the price.
He says it 'doesn't matter' if he ends up out of pocket.
Sir Rod will take to the Pyramid Stage on Sunday 29th June, the final day of the festival, with his performance scheduled for the early evening.

This year's Glastonbury headliners include The 1975, Neil Young, Olivia Rodrigo, Charli XCX, Doechii, The Prodigy and Alanis Morissette.
The Maggie May hitmaker was recently forced to cancel six more shows from his US tour after coming down with flu.
In a post on Instagram last week, Sir Rod announced that he will now be cancelling four US tour dates and rescheduling two others, all of which were meant to take place over the next eight days.
He wrote: "So sorry my friends. I'm devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I'll be back on stage and will see you soon."
The Grammy-winner signed off with a heartbroken emoji.
His next slide confirmed the four cancelled dates are three performances at the Colosseum Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, and one at Lake Tahoe Amphitheater at Caeser's Republic in Stateline, Nevada.
He is rescheduling two dates at casinos in California.
Sir Rod has cancelled a number of dates at his Colosseum residency over the last week, with his scheduled June 2nd and June 5th performances.
The multiple cancellations come after he was put on vocal rest between performances in May.
His string of performances come after Sir Rod noted he was planning to stop large-scale world tours at the end of this year.
However, he vowed to keep performing, just at more intimate venues.

Legendary rocker Rod Stewart reveals why he won't go to Trump's Mar-a-Lago Christmas parties anymore
Legendary rocker Rod Stewart has revealed why he won't go to Donald Trump 's Christmas parties anymore. The iconic singer said he no longer attends the lavish parties at Mar-a-Lago, citing a firm stance taken by his wife, Penny Lancaster. The model reportedly put a stop to her husband's friendship with Trump, claiming he 'doesn't treat women very well', according to her rocker husband. 'I used to go to his Christmas party and the balls he held, but my wife said no,' Stewart, 80, said. 'There was stuff he was coming out with, what he was saying about women he had known in the past, and Penny said, "You're not going. He's a disgrace."' While Stewart and Trump, 79, were once friendly, the singer even performing at Trump's casinos, his view of the former president has changed significantly. In a 2018 interview, Stewart addressed his personal history with Trump, admitting to knowing the billionaire president 'for a long time.' 'Let me just clear up the situation. I've known Trump for a long time. I've done concerts for him in his casinos. I live probably three-quarters of a mile down the road from him on the beach in Florida,' the Maggie May singer said. 'He's always been extremely nice to me. He's let my friends use his golf course for nothing, and I've had no problems with him at all. 'Is he a great president? Nah. I think his moral compass is way off. But on the other hand, the country's doing extremely well - although I believe part of that was down to President Obama. The country was starting to do great anyway; he's just carrying it on. 'But we'll see with the mid-term elections. It does seem like the walls are closing in on my dear friend,' he added. Stewart also said in an interview with Radio Times magazine that his former friend has changed since being elected into office. 'I'm not a great fan of Trump. I knew him very, very well. I used to go to his house,' the I Don't Want to Talk About It singer told the Daily Star. 'I live literally half a mile away. We're both on the beach. I used to go to his Christmas parties. He's always been a bit of a man's man. I liked him for that,' he said, adding, 'but he didn't, as far as I'm concerned, treat women very well. Since he became President, he became another guy. Somebody I didn't know.' The 80-year-old rockstar said he no longer counts Trump as a friend anymore citing his policies regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 'No, I can't any more. As long as he's selling arms to the Israelis – and he still is. How's that war ever gonna stop?'

Andrew Johns reveals he was on the verge of a startling partnership with Shane Warne just before the spin king's tragic death
Footy great Andrew Johns has revealed that he was planning to host a podcast with good friend Shane Warne before the spin king's tragic death in 2022. Appearing on the Hello Sport podcast, the NRL Immortal revealed that he first met Warne in 2019 before revealing news of the planned collaboration. 'Before Warnie (died) - can't believe he's not with us - we were going to do a podcast together,' Johns said. 'I flew down twice (to Warne's home) and we did like a rehearsal.' Johns went on to explain that he believed the stories of Warne's wild lifestyle were overblown. 'Mate what a champion,' he said. 'He was such a good guy. That surprised me, I thought he'd be like a mad party animal. He hardly drank. 'He was so cool, he was so down to earth, such a legend. 'Just an aura, one of those blokes who walks into a room and everyone says "wow". 'The first time I met him I faced him at the nets at the SCG during lunch. I was like how good's this? 'When I got there I was so nervous facing the king. He actually hit me in the nuts with the ball and I got a photo with the protector and went, "when you're out with Warnie you've always got to wear protection".' Johns said he was floored by the news of Warne's tragic death. 'It's one of those Princess Diana's or September 11's, one of those moments where you knew where you were when you heard,' Johns said. 'He's just one of those characters you think they're going to live forever.'
