Delhi: A bump-free road to good governance
Delhi has always been the beating heart of India. A political Capital as well as a cultural hotspot, Delhi is not merely a city but a vibrant mini-India with people and traditions from all parts of the country thriving together. From monuments to food and temples to architecture, Delhi carries energy, growth and culture at every juncture. No matter the rainfall, the Capital city shall remain functional, vibrant and energetic in a true Delhi style. (Arvind Yadav/ Hindustan Times)
However, it was our misfortune that in the last 10 years, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had disconnected our beloved city from the national growth mainstream. A city that was traditionally known for setting national benchmarks on infrastructure, transportation and civic amenities, among other fields, was in the news for stalled projects, governance failures and a constant blame-game. The entire city's governance had become a massive pothole of conflict, confusion and collision. A city meant to symbolise the fast-growing new India of the 21st century was left decades behind.
But the spirit of Delhi prevailed in the end and our city chose Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s double-engine government to end the Capital's woes. With a promise to reciprocate the Delhiites' trust with Delhi's all-round development, PM Modi guaranteed that he will 'short-circuit' the governance of 'shortcuts' and restore smart and comprehensive governance in the Capital. As a duty-bound karyakarta of PM Modi and the BJP, I am delighted to announce that Delhi's PWD ministry, this Tuesday, fulfilled a crucial 'Modi ki Guarantee' before the onset of monsoons in Delhi. As part of improving our city's road infrastructure to make it world-class in next five years, the PWD ministry has created a record of repairing the most potholes in a single day. This is both a moment to cherish and introspect for all of us, including my beloved Delhiites. While it is to our double-engine government's credit that such an exercise was executed, it is also a grim reminder of how under AAP's decade-long rule, thousands of potholes were allowed to exist in the first place. Thus, this PWD record is both a pat on the double engine government's back as well as a slap in AAP-da's face.
On one hand, while the AAP government had used the same PWD ministry to build a 'sheesh mahal' for Arvind Kejriwal, our double-engine government utilised the PWD for solving Delhiites' fundamental grievances. With over 200 maintenance vans, equipped with the latest technology and over 1,000 engineers and labourers on the ground, the ministry was in the news for the right reasons. The timing of this exercise right before the monsoons holds immense significance. The rainy season tests our infrastructure and puts it under severe stress by aggravating existing challenges. As both a way to minimise such problems as well as showcase our abilities of problem-solving, it's an announcement of PWD's changed mindset, intent and ability.
This achievement also poses a significant question in front of the people in the Capital and rest of the country. Why did our Capital's government machinery remain dysfunctional under the previous government while beginning to deliver under ours? The answer is: the BJP is a party with a difference. Our party's mantra of nation first, party second and self third is a guiding principle of all our governments, with Delhi being the latest example. Thus, 2025 is for Delhi what 2014 was for the entire country: a shifting of gears in governance with the same vehicle.
I shall also mention that this achievement, among others in the making, is just a trailer of our work, as we prepare for all our Delhiites, a bump-free road to good governance. From world-class infrastructure to a clean River Yamuna, from providing healthcare under Ayushman Bharat to monthly assistance to Delhi's women, Delhi's BJP government is working relentlessly to fulfil PM Modi's guarantees to all Delhiites.
In the immediate short term, Delhi shall witness mission monsoon in action with significantly reduced water-logging, well-functioning road infrastructure and desilted drains. No matter the rainfall, our city shall remain functional, vibrant and energetic in a true Delhi style. In the coming months, our people shall witness the initial results of our work on Yamuna cleaning and its riverfront development on a war footing. The previous government had pushed back our city by decades. Our government shall prepare the city for the decades to come.

‘Kolkata airport's boundary should be sealed immediately': Suvendu Adhikari flags ‘security risk'
The leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari called for the immediate sealing of the boundary at Kolkata airport. West Bengal BJP leader and LOP Suvendu Adhikari expressed concerns over Kolkata airport's security and called for sealing off the boundaries.(HT Photo) Speaking to ANI, Adhikari said that the current situation at the airport poses a major security risk. 'What is happening at Kolkata Airport is a matter of great concern from a security perspective. Prayers are being performed on the ground. The boundary of Kolkata Airport is not being sealed,' he said. He expressed worry over the movement of outsiders in and around the airport premises. "People from outside are coming and going, and there is also connectivity to China and Bangladesh from here. We have demanded that the boundary (of Kolkata Airport) be sealed," Adhikari said. Adhikari also highlighted that two newly developed runways have still not been made operational despite being completed with central government funding. "The two new runways for which the central government allocated a budget, and whose work has also been completed, have not been made operational. Only a single runway is functional," he said. He attributed the delay in operating the new runway to an issue involving a religious structure. "The reason given is the relocation of the Mosque to the secondary runway. This cannot go on," Adhikari remarked. Calling for urgent action, he said, "The boundary wall should be closed immediately. The boundary of such a sensitive international airport should be sealed immediately." Meanwhile, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, West Bengal's Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari criticised the state government for not participating in the nationwide celebration. He alleged that while both NDA and non-NDA ruled states observed the day, West Bengal deliberately skipped it. Speaking to ANI, Adhikari said, "NDA and non-NDA state governments are celebrating Yoga Day today, except West Bengal, because West Bengal follows Bangladesh. It does not follow Delhi. More than 180 countries are celebrating International Yoga Day today. As Indians, we are proud of this." The sharp remarks came as International Yoga Day was celebrated across the country, promoting the physical and mental health benefits of yoga. (ANI)

BJP slams Congress on 50th Anniversary of Emergency, marks ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' with exhibition in Delhi
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, imposed on June 25, 1975, by the then Indira Gandhi-led Congress government, the BJP government in Delhi commemorated the day as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' by inaugurating a special exhibition at Central Park in Connaught Place. The exhibition was organised by the government's Department of Art, Culture and Language, in collaboration with the Hindi Academy. It was inaugurated by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Paying tribute to those who resisted the Emergency, the CM drew a parallel between the pro-democracy movement of 1975 and India's freedom struggle. She lashed out at the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's government, calling it 'cruel, dictatorial, and insensitive.' 'The 21-month period that began on June 25, 1975, saw millions jailed without cause. There was no appeal, no argument, no hearing — it was the darkest chapter in the history of Indian democracy,' she said. Taking a dig at the Congress, she remarked: 'Those who once crushed democracy now ironically roam with the Constitution in their pockets, despite having disrespected it in the past.' She recalled the sacrifices of BJP leaders and veterans like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, Madan Lal Khurana, and Balraj Madhok, who were imprisoned during the Emergency. 'Their stories must be remembered by future generations,' she said. 'Such dark days will never return to this country, and the people will not tolerate any dictatorial attempt,' she said, adding that both the Centre and Delhi government remain committed to upholding the Constitution and its democratic values. She also announced a year-long series of programmes to honour the 'warriors of democracy' who fought against the Emergency. Minister of Art and Culture Kapil Mishra, whose department had curated the exhibition, said it showcases rare documents, many being displayed publicly for the first time. 'These documents expose how democracy was murdered during the Emergency,' he said. 'Overnight, the entire opposition was thrown behind bars, the courts were stripped of power, journalists were jailed, and media establishments shut down. The way India's democracy was attacked is something the country must never forget,' Mishra said. He called the exhibition 'not just a preservation of history, but a reminder of how democracy was defended through struggle and sacrifice.'

‘Self-declared protectors of Hinduism' are mocking Jagannath temple: Abhishek
1 2 3 Kolkata: Taking on BJP on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee asked how "self-declared protectors of Hinduism" could mock the Jagannath temple. "Suvendu Adhikari mocks it. Sukanta Majumdar called it a circus. This is coming from BJP netas who claim to be saviours of Hinduism. I am thankful to Mamata Banerjee and Bengal govt for the Jagannath temple, else people would not see BJP's true face," he said at a public rally at Satgachia in South 24 Parganas. Singling out state leader of opposition Adhikari, Abhishek said: "Since this element joined BJP, the party has not won a single election. BJP lost all 11 bypolls in Bengal (since 2021). He might become a grandfather but will never be able to remove Trinamool from people's hearts in the next 50 years. If you have the courage, fight. Otherwise, shut your mouth and go home and sleep. The more you attack, the stronger Trinamool will become. " You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata The MP said BJP would be reduced to 50 seats in the 2026 assembly elections. "In 2021, BJP's count stopped at 77. I promise that in 2026, the count will be under 50. I do not make predictions, but whatever I say turns into reality by God's grace... by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 5 Dividend Stocks for May 2025 Seeking Alpha Read More Undo I said Trinamool's seats would increase in 2024, and that became true... We lost 3 seats by a very small margin of votes — Bishnupur by 5,000, Purulia by 17,000, and BJP's talkative president Sukanta Majumdar won by 9,000 votes. If he does politics for 50 years and contests 10 elections, even then his margin will not come near 7.1 lakh, which I got in Diamond Harbour," he said. Attacking BJP for equating the Trinamool-led govt in Bengal with the caretaker administration in Bangladesh, Abhishek said: "If someone speaks in Bengali, they are called Bangladeshi. If someone wears a turban, they are labelled Khalistani. What hatred! This divisive politics was never seen in Bengal. To please a few people from Gujarat and MP, some of Bengal's unworthy sons have sold their spines. But the people of Bengal have responded appropriately. " He also referred to the fact that at the time he was touring southeast Asia as part of an MP delegation after Operation Sindoor, "the PM and home minister were busy spreading unrest in Bengal with their divisive politics". "Who, then, are the real anti-nationals?" Abhishek said. Questioning BJP's "double standards", he said, "In the RG Kar case, BJP and CPM demanded the resignation of then Kolkata police commissioner Vineet Goyal. Why are they not seeking the resignation of home minister Amit Shah and IB director Tapan Deka for Pahalgam? Twenty-six people were killed by four terrorists who crossed the border with AK-47s and shot them in broad daylight. They escaped, and the central govt has no clue where they went. Who is responsible for border security and IB, CRPF, CISF? If you demanded Mamata Banerjee's resignation over RG Kar, why shouldn't we demand Amit Shah's resignation for Pahalgam?"
