PETA just named Chicago the most vegan-friendly city in the country
This is not just about beans, greens and grains. You can still get a delicious deep-dish pie or an Italian beef—just without the animal products. At Kitchen 17, the pizzas are cheesy, gooey and 100-percent vegan. Buona offers a beefless version of its iconic sandwich and Runaway Cow in Bridgeport serves vegan Chicago dogs and oat milk soft serve Snowstorms that rival Dairy Queen's Blizzard. Over at the Chicago Diner, the Radical Reuben is a local legend, while Majani brings plant-forward Southern flavors to the South Shore.
Other vegan options that are Chicago to the core include decadent nondairy cheesecakes at Alice & Friends' Vegan Kitchen, the meat-free Chicago Style Frank at Soul Veg City, the plant-powered Meatball Sub with dairy-free provolone at Native Foods, Soy Al Pastor tacos at Penelope's Vegan Taqueria and the Buffalo Chicken Eggrolls at Spirit Elephant.
"From Chi-town's meat-free Chicago-style franks to dairy-free deep-dish pizzas, America's former meatpacking capital is now a paradise for vegan eating with an abundance of animal-friendly restaurants," says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk.
The recognition might seem at odds with the meat-heavy scenes in The Bear, but real-life Chicago is ahead of the curve. Veganism isn't a fringe movement here—it's part of the city's evolving identity.
Hot on Chicago's heels is Philadelphia, snagging second place with heavy hitters like Vedge, The Nile Cafe and Monster Vegan. Washington, D.C. came in third, repping spots like PLNT Burger, NuVegan Cafe and even the classic Ben's Chili Bowl.

London's best outdoor bars and drinking terraces
The drinking-focussed offshoot of the boombastic, 1970s-styled Dear Jackie restaurant at the Broadwick Soho hotel, Bar Jackie's terrace plops you pretty much in the middle of the pavement. Perfect then, for Soho people-watching while you sink yet another cocktail named after a Federico Fellini movie. Choose from La Dolce Vita with gin and lavender, an 8 1/2 with Aperol, or a non-alcoholic Amarcord. There's also an all-day aperitivi menu of snacks, pasta and Italian classics.

Orpheus and Eurydice at Edinburgh Playhouse ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Despite the richness of the English language, I think there are not enough superlatives to praise the creation of this rendition of Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice. From the very opening where we see the superb funambulist as Eurydice descend twisting into the underworld hanging from a harness to the final dénouement, the staging was outstanding, the music perfection, the singing immensely moving, and the acrobatics stunning. The set was minimalist but of a beautiful monochrome setting off the red of Eurydice's dress with the surtitles projected onto the back often marvellously smoking and dissolving as the Italian was sung. The conductor, Laurence Cummings, was masterful in his control of the wonderful Scottish Chamber Orchestra, whilst the singing of not only Iestyn Davies as Orpheus and Samantha Clarke as both Eurydice & Amor but also that of the chorus from Scottish Opera was flawless. This production by Opera Queensland employing the astounding skills and beauty of the Australian contemporary circus company, Circa demanded a standing ovation, something I do not engage in lightly.

Destination X thrown into chaos as police interrupts next episode of BBC show
Destination X fans were left in stitches as the BBC reality competition is thrown into chaos BBC's fresh globetrotting reality series Destination X descended into mayhem after Italian authorities disrupted production. Fronted by Welsh comedian Rob Brydon, the programme follows 10 contestants on an epic European journey aboard a coach with tinted windows, visiting stunning but enigmatic destinations. During each episode, participants face trials to secure hints that might assist them in solving one crucial puzzle: precisely where on Earth have they landed? Competitors build partnerships and feuds throughout their quest, all vying for a substantial monetary reward. At the conclusion of Thursday's episode (August 14) of the programme, audiences received a preview of the forthcoming instalment which spiralled into disorder when local authorities disrupted shooting, reports the Express. As the group neared a border checkpoint, Italian officers seemed to stop the coach, declaring "you have no permit". It was then that BBC production staff informed the team: "Just bear with us please, we're having some issues with local authorities". Police subsequently enquired: "How many people on the bus?" before a crew member was spotted conversing with them prior to yelling: "We need to find the paperwork now". It wasn't long before supporters flocked to X - previously Twitter - to voice their theories online. One viewer wrote: "Not the police getting involved, my word" whilst another quipped: "The next location is Venice jail [laughing emoji]" as a third added: "Messy TV at its finest [cry-laughing emoji]." However, some viewers were sceptical about the police intervention. One viewer scoffed: "Not falling for that! [cry-laughing emoji]" while another chimed in with: "Not real police I reckon." A third viewer noted: "That police happened on the US version too" and a fourth quipped: "Yeah sure there are cameras everywhere and the Italian police would definitely allow it to be filmed as they raid the bus." Executive producer Dan Adamson previously told the Mirror: "We crossed a lot of borders and there was always a chance that we were going to have officials trying to board the bus, and so we had to have plan Bs, which we had fake uniforms that we would then do a second boarding of the bus to try and pretend it was just part of the room.' The dramatic twist followed an episode that left fans feeling short-changed when Rob announced that no contestants would be leaving the reality show that night. Viewers quickly took to social media to vent their frustration. One disgruntled fan blasted: "What an absolute waste of an episode" and another concurred: "What an absolutely, pointless, waste of time this part of the show has been. Honestly don't see any point to it other than filler." Another viewer agreed, stating: "So if you skip this episode apart from the first five minutes you wouldn't miss any of the game process" while a third lamented: "This format is nonsense? Poor man's Traitors." Destination X is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
