Late night Ludhiana quarrel: Man booked for stabbing neighbour in drunken rage; accused arrested
LUDHIANA: Sahnewal police on Friday arrested a man who stabbed his neighbour while in a drunken state. The victim was admitted to the govt hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh.
The arrested accused is Sanjay Paswan, a labourer who lives in a labour quarter on rent in village Bilgah.
The police booked Paswan on the complaint of Amdoh Shah, a neighbour of the accused.
The complainant said the incident occurred on May 31. He was present in his rented accommodation when he heard that Sanjay was fighting with his brother in an inebriated condition. During their quarrel, Sanjay's brother came to his room and slept there to avoid further altercation with Sanjay.
Shah added that later in the night, Sanjay tried to barge into his room by smashing the door.
As he tried to stop him, Sanjay stabbed him in the stomach with a knife. On hearing his cries, the landlord of the labour quarter intervened and rescued him. Thereafter, Sanjay ran away from the spot, and Shah was taken to the hospital.

, the investigating officer from Sahnewal police station, said the victim is admitted to the hospital. The police recorded his statement on Friday and lodged an FIR under sections 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 118 (2) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of BNS against the accused, who was arrested by the police.

Navi Mumbai: The Sanpada police have arrested a gang of eight members for impersonating the Kerala cyber police, and looting ₹31.73 lakh in cash from a 25-year-old at an ATM kiosk in Juinagar on May 31. According to the police, the incident occurred at 7:45am when the victim, Mohammad Ramees Abdul Hameed Eidwalath, had gone to deposit the money at an ATM kiosk. The gang pushed Ramees into a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and took him to Palm Beach Road where he was assaulted, threatened, robbed, and finally dumped before they fled, said the police. The police searched the abandoned Ertiga found on the Sanpada highway. They tracked down the owner of the car who told them that the gang had borrowed his vehicle, claiming to be from the Kerala cyber police. The investigation revealed that the accused had fled to Bengaluru, after which the police sent a team to check 500-600 odd lodges in the city. The accused were caught within 36 hours of the crime, in the Upparpet area, on June 2. The accused, all from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, were identified as Thansir Hamsa, 26, Nijas Moin, 27, Johnson Sunny, 45, Anwar Maheen Basha, 25, Faseel Kasim, 30, Mohammad Sabeeth Ashraf, 25, Faseel Kasim, 28, Faseel Abdul Rehman, 31. The police seized cash, mobile phones, the Maruti Ertiga, and bank account deposits worth ₹30.48 lakh, and booked the accused under sections 310 (2) (dacoity), 138 (abduction), 204 (personating a public servant) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Exploring old law allowing ‘push back': Sarma
The Assam government is looking into the details of 'an old law' that will allow it to 'push back' infiltrators without having to mandatorily approach foreigners tribunals, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme in Nalbari, Sarma said that a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, while hearing a case on Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, had said that there is no legal requirement for the Assam government to always approach the judiciary in order to identify foreigners. 'There exists an immigrants expel order, which is an old law. The Supreme Court has said that this law is in force and a deputy commissioner can give permission for immediate pushback under it,' he maintained. 'For whatever reason, our lawyers had not informed us and we too didn't know about it. The entire matter has come to light in the last few days. We will now discuss it further,' he added. The chief minister said pushing back illegal migrants will continue, adding that the process of identifying foreigners, which had been paused due to NRC-related matters, will now be accelerated. 'And when the identification of a foreigner happens, there will be no need to send the case to any tribunal. We will directly push them back. We have been preparing for it,' he added. Sarma said the process of pushback will continue, though no person with a case pending before the court will be sent back. His comments came even as the state witnessed protests over 'harassment' of minorities in the name of detecting illegal immigrants. Members and supporters of the All Assam Minority Students' Union (AAMSU) wore black badges and displayed placards against the purported recent pushback of Bangladeshis in the state. They carried out the protest in different parts, including Chirang and Jogighopa, after Eid namaz.
