Marvel's Dramatic "Avengers: Doomsday" Cast Announcement Has Inspired Our Favourite New Meme
Six years on from the double-punch of Infinity War and Endgame – which saw stars from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe sharing the screen, in what came to be playfully referred to as the 'most ambitious crossover event in history' – the studio is about to begin production on the next Avengers movie.
To get fans excited, Marvel put together a five-and-a-half-hour live-stream on Thursday afternoon, during which the A-listers in the cast were announced, including MCU greats and a few surprise returning faces.

All jokes aside, shall we have a quick recap of who is actually back for Avengers: Doomsday?
It was previously revealed that former Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr will be returning to the MCU in the new role of Doctor Doom, and he's set to be joined by Marvel staples like Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America.
Also putting in an appearance will be the new Fantastic Four – made up of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn – as well as Letitia Wright and Winston Duke from the Black Panther movies.
There'll also be appearances from actors within the previous X-Men film series, including Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Alan Cumming and Rebecca Romjin.
Filming on the project is now underway, ahead of its release next year. A sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, has already been announced.

Marvel is struggling to find a win this year. "Thunderbolts*" was well-received, but that wasn't enough to prevent the MCU movie from failing to crack $400 million at the box office. It didn't even beat out February's "Captain America: Brave New World," which was much less well-received by critics and fans. Currently, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" is performing well with viewers, but it, too, is falling short at the box office. It will be the top Marvel movie this year despite a dramatic second-week falloff, but it will lose out to DC's "Superman" movie from Marvel castoff James Gunn, and is causing all the wrong headlines for Marvel chief creative officer Kevin Feige. So Kevin Feige must be hoping for some good news somewhere. Unfortunately, his plan for an upcoming "X-Men" movie won't be the place where he gets it, because fans are not happy about it. For those who missed it, just before "The Fantastic Four" hit theaters, Feige dropped a ton of Marvel news. One of the revelations from his impromptu press conference was that "Thunderbolts*" director Jake Schreier will be casting a "youth-focused reboot" for his upcoming, untitled "X-Men" movie. That has not gone over well with fans. On X (Twitter) in particular, the reveal of the news by the account X-Men Updates engendered some negative responses. One user called out the failed "New Mutants" project as a reason not to go the youth route ... which is a fair point. Others posted angry or exasperated GIFs and one went so far as to call it "f**king bullsh*t." Not everyone was opposed to the plan. Surprisingly, the same announcement in the r/comicbooks subreddit was met with a mature, largely optimistic debate. Many just wanted anything that wasn't a tired rehash. Here's the thing, though: a lot of "X-Men" movies have failed. We love them because we love the characters, and "X2" and "Logan" are among the greatest superhero movies ever made. But for every "Logan," there's an "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." For every "X2," there's an "X-Men: The Last Stand." The movies that focused on younger iterations, like "Dark Phoenix" and "New Mutants," were bad enough that Marvel probably hopes you've forgotten they exist. This streaming bundle deal is a total steal if you're looking to get both Disney Plus and Hulu on a budget. But they do exist, and fans have not forgotten. Concern over the next "X-Men" movie has reached the point where some, like the popular "The Midnight Boys" podcast on the Ringer podcast network, even debated whether Jean Grey or Wolverine should be in Schreier's "X-Men" movie. Ultimately, it's the story that the movie tells, rather than the age of the cast, that will determine its success. "X-Men: 97" didn't shy away from younger characters and did just fine. Focusing on younger characters just for the sake of skewing younger is likely doomed to fail, but so is skewing older to avoid the bad taste left from "The New Mutants." Hopefully, once we get our first casting announcements, we'll start to get an idea of what Feige and Schreier have planned for Xavier's mutants, and Feige will finally get some good news. At the moment, all he has going for him are these awesome photos of "Spider-Man." Kevin Feige reveals Miles Morales not allowed in MCU, 'X-Men' casting update and more
Marvel chief creative officer Kevin Feige just gave a massive interview last Friday, laying out details about what to expect from the future of Marvel and what he thinks went wrong with the MCU in the past (h/t Variety). Of course, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" arrives this week, meaning Marvel was going to be in the spotlight this week no matter what ( spoiler alert: early reactions are positive). But Feige's comments are significant enough that they are a must-read for any Marvel fan. No Miles Morales in the MCU yet — 'We've been told to stay away' In this long-ranging interview, Feige covered Marvel's plans for the MCU between now and 2032, as well as what's gone wrong since "Avengers: Endgame." You may like For me, though, the headline was this — don't expect Miles Morales in the MCU. That's coming from Feige himself, who said, 'That is nowhere," when asked about the other Spider-Man entering the MCU, adding, "We've been told to stay away." Sony and Marvel have teamed up to great effect with Tom Holland's portrayal of Peter Parker, and "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" was a pleasant surprise on Disney Plus earlier this year. It stands to reason that they could produce similarly great stories with Miles Morales, who has become a fan favorite since his introduction to the Marvel universe. On the other hand, it's tough to see where Miles would fit alongside Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU. That's not to say it's impossible, and perhaps he could have been easily shoehorned into "Doomsday" or "Secret Wars," which are set to likely feature multiple iterations of the same character as the MCU careens towards a much-needed reset. But there's not a logical need for him to fill at present. Perhaps it's best that he wrap up his own story in 2027's 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,' and then Sony and Marvel can assess the future of the character. Mahershala Ali's 'Blade' still lives — but 'Young Avengers' might not (Image credit: Marvel) While Miles Morales might not be joining the MCU anytime soon, Feige says that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is still on track to play the titular Daywalker in a "Blade" movie. 'We didn't want to simply just put a leather outfit on him and have him start killing vampires,' Feige explained during his sit-down with the media (h/t Variety). 'It had to be unique. It fell into the time when we started pulling back and saying, 'Only accept insanely great.' And it ['Blade'] wasn't 'insanely great' at the time.' But while things are still on track for "Blade," Feige was less forthright about a future "Young Avengers" property. 'Potentially,' Feige said, when asked about a future story centered around Marvel's young heroes. 'In that case, it comes down to where's the best story and where is the best strange alchemy. Who would be fun to see them with? Each other, because that's what the Young Avengers are, but also mixing it up more.' Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden and Kelsey Grammer were all confirmed in an hours-long casting announcement. But once that movie is over, a new cast of X-Men will star in an upcoming untitled 'X-Men' movie directed by Jake Schreier (of "Thunderbolts*" fame). They may even appear as soon as "Avengers: Secret Wars." 'We're utilizing that ['Secret Wars'] not just to round out the stories we've been telling post-'Endgame,'" Feige told those in attendance on Friday (h/t Variety). "Just as importantly — and you can look at the 'Secret Wars' comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future. 'Endgame,' literally, was about endings. 'Secret Wars' is about beginnings.' Expect Marvel to go on the younger side for casting these roles, too, as Feige noted that X-Men stories naturally tend to center around adolescents. The X-Men aren't the only major Marvel characters being recast either. Feige indicated that Marvel will ultimately recast Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in the MCU — it's just a matter of when. 'We produced 50 hours of stories between 2007 and 2019,' Feige said, when discussing how Marvel shifted from a focus on quality to a focus on quantity. "We've had well over 100 hours of stories — in half the time [in the six years since 'Avengers: Endgame']. That's too much.' It's this that Feige blames for Marvel's flagging performance. 'It's clearly not superhero fatigue, right?' he said, referring to the fact that DC's "Superman" is doing just fine at the same box office where "Thunderbolts*" and other Marvel movies have struggled. Speaking of "Thunderbolts*," Feige also blames the Disney Plus shows specifically for the movie's commercial failure. ''Thunderbolts*' I thought was a very, very good movie,' Feige told those assembled. 'But nobody knew that title and many of those characters were from a [TV] show. Some [audiences] were still feeling that notion of, 'I guess I had to have seen these other shows to understand who this is.'" Josh Brolin Talks Potential Thanos Comeback in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and Why He's Fine Turning Down LANTERNS — GeekTyrant
While Marvel fans are gearing up for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars , Josh Brolin is open to putting on the motion-capture suit again if Marvel gives him the call to return as Thanos, especially if it comes from the Russo Brothers. In a recent chat with Josh Horowitz, Brolin shared his thoughts on revisiting the role of the Mad Titan and offered a bit of insight into why he passed on playing Hal Jordan in DC Studios' Lanterns series. Talking about what made Avengers such a compelling and rewarding experience, Brolin said, "There's a level of absurdity that I enjoy so much...I've said it a million times, but it goes back to black box theatre, where you have no money and you're pretending that this thing is a gun. 'If you have enough conviction, people will actually start to think it's a gun. There was a level of that in [Avengers]." He also opened up about how Thanos started off as a small cameo and turned into a franchise-defining villain. "They were afraid it was gonna get out, so they would give us a phoney scene and then give us the real scene when we'd get there, which, to me, is hell. I can't prep, I'm thinking about the lines, and all this stuff, but it all worked out. 'That was supposed to be a cameo. When it was first brought to me, I was doing the Everest movie in London, and they brought me this huge bible, and it was just this little thing, and I'd be in it for 10 minutes. They changed it. It turned into this whole thing." So would he do it again? Absolutely. "Deadpool 2, I was like, I was glad it was one experience. The Thanos thing, if they called me in London right now, and said, 'Let's do this,' I'd be like, 'I'll be there tomorrow.' 'I talk to Downey probably four to six times a year. I talk to the Russos probably four to six times a week. I talk to Joe a lot. I love both of them." On what the Russo Brothers might cook up for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars , Brolin added, "Of course they're going to come up with something fun. Who knows? That was a 10-year in-the-building kind of thing, and that was its own bookended deal. I don't know what they're going to do, but I'm sure it will be interesting. I think they do that very, very well." While some fans would love to see Brolin back as Thanos, he had the chance to jump over to the DC Universe in Lanterns , which will star Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. Brolin was offered the role but passed, and it's not something he's kicking himself over. When asked if he regretted turning down Lanterns or Avatar (he was considered for the role played by Stephen Lang), Brolin laughed and said, "[Laughs] James Cameron. I heard Green Lantern...I know it's Kyle Chander and Paula Patton, who I did a pilot with. I'm sure excited to see it. I can't wait to see it. I love Kyle Chander. I think he's solid. He's fantastic." There's been no word on Paula Patton joining the series, so that mention might've been a slip, or a reveal. Either way, it's clear Brolin's attention is still more on the Marvel side of things than on suiting up for DC. And for those wondering about a possible return as Cable in the X-Force future with Ryan Reynolds, Brolin's continued distance from his Deadpool 2 experience makes that look unlikely for now.
