2 MACC officers, ex-officer freed of robbing Chinese businessman

By: Ho Kit Yen, FMT Text Size: The sessions court acquitted MACC officers Haffiz Radzi and Fahmee Nor and former officer Azwan Asli of robbing a Chinese businessman four years ago. Kuala Lumpur: The sessions court here freed two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers and a former officer on charges of robbing a Chinese businessman four years ago. Judge Izralizam Sanusi held that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against officers Haffiz Radzi and Fahmee Nor as well as former officer Azwan Asli. The three were accused of committing a gang robbery on Kun Gao on Dec 10, 2021 of RM952,690 and 1,225 yuan in cash, as well as a luggage bag and a Louis Vuitton bag at the businessman's home in Jalan Ampang. The court said that the trio did not intimidate the victim as they were there to investigate the Chinese national for money laundering. 'The victim told the court he was not afraid (of the three men) as he had not committed any wrongdoing. 'There was also no evidence that the victim was threatened with any guns by the three men, although he claimed that one of them carried a gun in his backpack,' Izralizam said, adding that the existence of the alleged gun was not proven. Deputy public prosecutor Nor Aisyah Zanyuin appeared for the prosecution while lawyer Dzulkifli Ahmad represented the three men. Lawyer Phyllia Lim held a watching brief for the Chinese man. Power theft: Man fined RM21,000

Kota Kinabalu: A 58-year-old man was fined a total of RM21,000 for two counts of using electricity that bypasses the meter terminals, causing the Sabah Electricity to undercharge and incur losses. Voo Hen Sang @ Tonny pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, to both charges against him, Monday. On the first count, Voo was fined RM1,000 or 14 days' jail for dishonestly using electricity through the installation of a black bypass cable connected to the terminal of meter number 99178340 on the red phase. On the second count, he was ordered to pay another RM20,000 fine or spend five months in prison for fraudulently using electricity through the installation of a blue bypass cable connected to the terminal of meter number 98992844 on the red and blue phases. The charges stated the offences committed by Voo had caused the Sabah Electricity to undercharge and incur losses. He committed the offences on Feb 24, this year, at 4.40pm and 8pm at Kg Kauluan in Tamparuli. Advertisement The offence, under Sub-61(3)(c) of the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024, and punishable under Sub-Section 61(3)(ii) of the same Enactment, provides for a fine of between RM20,000 and RM1 million, or both, on conviction. In mitigation, Voo through his counsel Jeremy Ho, asked for a lenient fine, saying that it was his first offence. Kota Kinabalu: A 43-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here with assaulting a man using a glass tumbler. Andrah Lamboi pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to voluntarily causing hurt to one Sukiman Salimin, 47, with the weapon on July 24, at 8.30pm, at a squatter house in Manggatal town The offence is framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years' imprisonment, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, on conviction. The court fixed Sept 30 for pre-trial case management (PTCM) and released the accused on bail of RM2,500 in two sureties. Earlier, the prosecution in applying for a PTCM date, proposed bail at RM7,000 while duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong, representing the accused, applied for a lower bail amount. In another case, a 39-year-old woman was charged with stealing three units of skincare products from a retail outlet at a shopping mall. Advertisement Hamisah Parman pleaded not guilty to stealing the products all worth RM166, from Watsons Personal Care Store on July 26, at 11.55am at the Watsons store in One Borneo Hypermall. The charge is framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine, and for a second or subsequent offence, mandatory imprisonment along with a fine or whipping, on conviction. The court set Sept 30 for PTCM and offered the accused bail of RM1,800 in two sureties. The court also ordered each accused to report to the investigating officer once a month and not to interfere with the prosecution's witnesses or the complainant in each case.
