Kota Kinabalu: A 58-year-old man was fined a total of RM21,000 for two counts of using electricity that bypasses the meter terminals, causing the Sabah Electricity to undercharge and incur losses. Voo Hen Sang @ Tonny pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, to both charges against him, Monday. On the first count, Voo was fined RM1,000 or 14 days' jail for dishonestly using electricity through the installation of a black bypass cable connected to the terminal of meter number 99178340 on the red phase. On the second count, he was ordered to pay another RM20,000 fine or spend five months in prison for fraudulently using electricity through the installation of a blue bypass cable connected to the terminal of meter number 98992844 on the red and blue phases. The charges stated the offences committed by Voo had caused the Sabah Electricity to undercharge and incur losses. He committed the offences on Feb 24, this year, at 4.40pm and 8pm at Kg Kauluan in Tamparuli.

Ruckus in court complex as woman tries to stop journalists covering robbery case
MELAKA: There was a brief commotion at the court complex in Ayer Keroh here when a woman tried to prevent media personnel from doing their jobs. It is believed she is related to an accused in an armed robbery case. The incident occurred on Tuesday (Aug 5) morning near the police counter at the courthouse lobby when two women followed the accused, Amirul Hamry Hambalyi Azahari, 27, as he was being escorted by police after claiming trial to armed robbery at a convenience store here. While two cameramen recorded the scene with court approval, one of the women, in her 20s, approached a senior television cameraman and put her hand on his shoulder, asking him to stop recording. A journalist and cameraman from a Chinese media outlet were also reportedly obstructed and verbally attacked during the incident. Moments earlier, the same woman was seen on camera seemingly attempting to stop media personnel from recording footage as the accused was brought to court. According to witnesses, both women also claimed that they held official positions. The commotion, which lasted around two minutes, was quickly brought under control by police personnel. The accused was brought before Sessions judge Haderiah Siri to face a charge of robbery while armed with a butcher knife. He is alleged to have made off with RM202.80 in cash, three boxes of cigarettes, and a barcode scanner in the 3am incident at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho 2 on July 29. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and possible caning under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397. The accused, who was unrepresented, was granted bail of RM9,000 with additional conditions, including reporting to the police fortnightly and surrendering his passport. The court fixed Sept 9 for next mention.

Ukraine's drone attack sparks fires in Rostov region, Russia says
(Reuters) -An overnight Ukrainian drone attack sparked several fires, including at a power substation, in the southern Russian region of Rostov, the acting regional governor said on Tuesday. There were no injuries as a result of the attack and the fire at the substation on an area of about 500 square metres (5,400 square feet) has been extinguished, Rostov's acting governor, Yuri Slyusar, said on the Telegram messaging app. Russia's defence units destroyed a total of 24 Ukrainian drones overnight, including seven over the Rostov region, which has been a frequent target of Ukraine's strikes, Russia's defence ministry said on Telegram. The ministry reports only the number of downed drones, not how many Ukraine launched. Reuters could not independently verify the reports, and there was no immediate comment from Kyiv. Ukraine has frequently said its attacks inside Russia are aimed at destroying infrastructure key to Moscow's war efforts and are in response to Russia's continued strikes on Ukraine. Two foreign tourists held over robbery targeting money changers in Bali

One of the suspects was beaten by a mob after he tried to steal Rp 191,150,000 (US$11,667) from the victim. Police discovered that this was their second such act on the island. The two suspects, Tajaddin Hajiyep, 35, from Azerbaijan and Evgeniy Viktorovich Pak, 36, from Uzbekistan could face a maximum sentence of nine years in prison if found guilty. Kuta Police chief Comr Agus Riwayanto Diputro told a press conference on Thursday (July 31) that the suspects were members of a group targeting money exchange businesses that offer cash on delivery services to hotels or villas. The suspects used false passports when contacting their victims. 'The fake passport was used as identification. This made the victims trust them and agree to bring a certain amount of money to a specific location requested by the perpetrators,' Riwayanto said. He said the suspects had contacted the money changer through the Telegram messaging app and told them he would like to change his crypto worth US$2,350 to rupiah. The suspect asked the money changer to send the money to a villa in the Kuta district, Badung regency. Based on the request, the company sent two staff members to the villa with the money. However, the two were robbed once they arrived. While one of the perpetrators and the two victims were counting the money, the other perpetrator suddenly arrived and grabbed the neck of one of the victims. The other perpetrator then grabbed the neck of the other victim. Both perpetrators told the victims they were from Interpol. 'The victims were in shock, as they said that they were from Interpol,' Riwayanto said. After the assault, the perpetrators ran away with the money. However, the victims chased the perpetrators and hit suspect Hajiyep with a motorbike. The locals in the area managed to nab Hajiyep but not before beating him, causing minor injuries. The other suspect, Pak, was arrested later when he tried to leave the island through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. 'We arrested the other suspect within 24 hours, thanks to our coordination with the Immigration office,' Riwayanto added. The two suspects apparently had committed another crime earlier in Canggu, causing the victim to lose Rp 170 million. 'They came to Bali as tourists but apparently they committed two similar offences during their stay,' Riwayanto said. Police intend to charge the two suspects under Article 365 of the Criminal Code on robbery. I Gusti Ngurah Rai Immigration Office officer Dharma Bayuaji told reporters that the two suspects arrived in Bali in January using tourist visas.
