Netflix thriller with 20m views hits major stumbling block for season 2 return
In March it was reported that the limited series – starring Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, Meghann Fahy, Eve Hewson and others – was getting a follow-up season from another Nantucket-set book by best-selling The Perfect Couple author Elin Hilderbrand.
The book in question is 2024's Swan Song, and it was set to be written by The Bear producer Joanna Calo.
However, Deadline now reports Joanna has exited the project, according to sources, and there is no confirmed replacement for the much-anticipated Swan Song adaption, said to be in early development.
A representative from Netflix declined to provide Deadline a comment, and has never confirmed a possible Perfect Couple season two.

Swan Song follows the Gatsby-esque mysterious Richardson family – who throw parties, mingle and flirt with locals, while making sure everyone knows how super loaded they are.
But then the worst happens when their house burns to a crisp and an employee goes missing, leaving the whole well-to-do island – where houses are worth an average of at $4.1million (£3mill) – left in chaos.
It was reported Australian acting royalty Nicole and Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier would be co-producing the Swan Song series, as they did The Perfect Couple.
Upon its release in September 2024, the first series racked up a whopping 20 million views in a week, topping the most-watched chart after only four days.
The series was initially reviewed poorly, with some critics calling it a genre 'mess'. However viewers were hooked and are waiting impatiently for more upmarket murders, making it a successful swing after all.
Speaking to Metro last year, director Susanne emphasised the significance of the Nantucket setting, describing the island as 'super important.'
'The island of Nantucket is, is a, is a player of its own. And it's not just the physical Island. It's also like a mental island.
'It is very, it's, it's very insular for good and bad.'

In the series Liev, 57, and Nicole, 58, play married couple Tag Winbury andGreer Garrison Winbury, the all-smiles – but sinister – power couple at the head of a glossy, strange family.
Nicole previously revealed she wanted to make sure Liev's ex Naomi Watts was happy with her starring next to him before taking the role.
She told Entertainment Weekly: 'We always check in, we're besties. That was very kind of her to do that.' More Trending
After giving Nicole her blessing, Naomi revealed she was excited to tune in, as she told EW: 'I'm desperate to [watch] because everyone is raving about it. It just launched, what, two days ago.
'I'm very much looking forward to it. I have seen the trailer. It looks fantastic.'
The plot follows the drama after a shocking death derails a lavish high-wedding between Benji Winbury (Billy Howle) and Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson), and turns everyone into a suspect.
However, Swan Song, if it does end up being made, will have a whole new cast and set of characters, à la The White Lotus.

Dylan is devastated by April betrayal in Emmerdale as evil Ray closes in
Emmerdale's Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) is in the clutches of drug lord Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) and Ray is planning on sinking his claws deeper. It's been a tough start for Dylan and April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) as Dylan struggled to be truthful with his friend over embarrassment of what he had been through. When April found out about Dylan working for Ray, it nearly ended their relationship, and then Dylan dropped a bigger bombshell – Ray wanted April to do the drop. Dylan means so much to April that she agreed to do it as a one off as Dylan tried to convince her that Ray is a good guy looking out for him. But that good guy is manipulating everything Dylan thinks and does. He sows a seed in Dylan's mind that Paddy Kirk's (Dominic Brunt) help isn't as innocent as it seems and assures Dylan that he is the only one looking out for him. The next day, April sees Dylan getting in a stranger's car and loses her mind with worry. Marlon notices the change in his daughter and can't understand why watching Dylan head off to work is such a problem. Too stressed to keep her mouth shut, April tells Marlon about Dylan's sex work past and thinks he's doing it again. Marlon is horrified. April is left with the guilt that she shouldn't have told her dad, who is now preparing to tell Paddy. April spots Dylan hanging outside a stranger's car and confronts him but breathes a sigh of relief to learn it was just a drugs drop, no sex work. But the damage is done – now Marlon and Paddy want words. Dylan is gutted and humiliated that she told them his deepest, darkest secrets. April is beside herself and in a desperate bid to save their relationship, tells Dylan she loves him. He's taken a back and overwhelmed, unable to process how someone who loves him could betray him. Paddy takes an opportunity to take Dylan to one side and tell him his past doesn't matter, he doesn't judge him one bit. It spurs Dylan on to go straight and tell Ray he is out, at least for a while. But something tells us Ray isn't going to be prepared to just let him go. What will Ray do to keep him in his clutches? But as frightening as Ray might be, he's not Dylan's only problem. As Dylan moves through the village, Kyle recognises him. More Trending He legs it back to his mum and tells her who he's just seen – the man he stabbed in the barn. Immediately a plan is formulating in Moira's mind, Dylan needs his comeuppance. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? Sinister Theo scenes in Coronation Street as Todd is left reeling by demand
Coronation Street viewers have started to spot some worrying behaviour from Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce)'s boyfriend Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), as a nastier side to the character has begun to emerge. Theo is dealing with a very complex situation. Having made the decision to accept that he's gay and move forward in a relationship with Todd, Theo has had to navigate splitting up with his wife Danielle (Natalie Anderson) and trying to maintain a relationship with his two children. This has been made more complicated by a character called Noah (Richard Winsor), who is part of a church group that seeks to 'save' gay people by putting them through conversion therapy. This is something Theo has endured in the past and it's left him with severe trauma. Noah is now living with Danielle and the children, which is a horrific situation for Theo. Todd has been trying to help Theo through all of this, but there have been signs that Theo's behaviour towards Todd is tipping towards being controlling. Gareth Pierce told us last month: 'I think at this point, we're starting to spot some anger management issues on Theo's part, at the very least. There's some flashes of anger that have left Todd shocked but equally, because he's had that insight into the conversion therapy and where Theo is coming into this new life from, he's perhaps willing to guide him through it. 'I think Todd has spotted many things from Theo, but he still has the mindset that he can fix this and because of the love that's there, he's thinking they will get through it. Our audience are probably also spotting some of those flashes of jealousy and perhaps a kind of need to control that maybe Todd is not currently spotting or doesn't want to spot.' In upcoming episodes that jealousy and control becomes more overt and leads Theo to issue an ultimatum to Todd. Theo is irritated when he hears from Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) that she's hosting drinks in memory of her brother Paul (Peter Ash), who died last year. She says Todd will be there with Billy (Daniel Brocklebank). Later, Theo emotionally blackmails Todd into staying at home with him rather than going out to the pub. The next day when Billy sees Theo's son Miles (Lewis William Magee) accompanying Noah in handing out leaflets in the street, he tries to reason with the boy. He warns him that he's being brainwashed by some bad people and he needs to realise which people in his life truly care about him. More Trending Theo is obviously jealous of the close bond between Todd and Billy, and Billy's interference in his son's life – however well intentioned – tips him over the edge. Furious, Theo tells Todd that he doesn't want him seeing Billy any more, and says he must choose between them. Todd can't believe what he's hearing, but Theo is deadly serious.
