South Park faces major question in bitter battle over $900,000,000 deal
South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are threatening legal action as talks over its future rumble on. The future of the long running animated series is yet to be decided, with the end of its Paramount deal and talks with other streamers. Negotiations are ongoing to see where the iconic and controversial show will land, with Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery in the running. However, Jeff Shell – who will become president of Paramount if its merger with Skydance goes through – has now been accused of interfering in contract negotiations. According to a letter seen by The Hollywood Reporter, Parker and Stone's Park County entertainment company has threatened legal action. An attorney for the duo has accused Shell of trying to get Netflix and WBD to alter certain details in their offer in a 'manner calculated to benefit Paramount at the expense' of the company. One accusation includes Shell allegedly trying to get WBD to give Paramount+ an exclusive 12-month window for new South Park episodes, with a five-year deal rather than 10, which could lessen its value amid talks. In the letter, the attorney says: 'We hereby demand that you, Redbird, and Skydance immediately cease your interference. 'If these activities continue, we will have no choice but to act to both protect our rights and discharge any obligations we may have to the public.' However, a Skydance spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter in a statement: 'Under the terms of the transaction agreement, Skydance has the right to approve material contracts.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video As it stands, there are two years left on Paramount's $900million deal, and there are talks to extend that to bring South Park to Paramount+. Paramount, Parker and Stone all operate South Park Digital Studios, which is the owner of the show's streaming rights. This structure has caused issues with negotiations, along with Skydance awaiting approval for its acquisition of Paramount. Until the merger is official, the firm cannot take control or issue directives, due to federal antitrust laws. Afshin Beyzaee, general counsel at Park County, is said to have written in the letter to Shell: 'You did this behind Park County's back. 'That self-dealing would have been absolutely restricted if it were done by Paramount itself. 'So, it is simply outrageous that even before it has been granted the authority to close the merger with Paramount, Redbird and Skydance are jumping the gun and using confidential information of SPDS to purport to make demands on behalf of SPDS that even Paramount has no right to make.' The South Park Digital Studios board of managers includes Paramount's Comedy Partners, which has limited rights to act. More Trending Park County has argued that Shell 'had no right or authority to be demanding that SPDS's prospective counterparties make modifications to their proposals, especially modifications that would depress the value of their proposals'. Metro has contacted representatives for South Park, Paramount, Skydance and Redbird for comment. View More » South Park is available to stream on Paramount+. Got a story? Joey Essex makes an unlikely appearance with MobLand star Geoff Bell during day out in London - after launching new career in boxing
There appeared to be plenty to smile about on Monday afternoon as Joey Essex made a surprise appearance with actor Geoff Bell in central London. The unlikely pair were in high spirits as they laughed and joked with each other while making the most of another bright day in the English capital. Both die-hard Millwall supporters, the two stars may well have been discussing the Championship football club's 140th anniversary celebrations after finishing last season in an encouraging eighth place. Opting for a pair of flip-flops beneath loose fitting linen trousers, Bell, 62 - whose film credits include Green Street and Mike Bassett: England Manager - appeared to have a spring in his step while out with former reality star Joey. The British actor already had a reason to be cheerful after discovering Amazon Prime show MobLand - in which he stars alongside Pierce Brosnan and Dame Helen Mirren - has been greenlit for a second series. Bell will also join forces with his MobLand co-stars in forthcoming film The Thursday Murder Club - an adaptation of Richard Osman 's bestselling novel of the same name. MobLand delves into the story of two crime families engulfed in 'a battle that threatens to topple empires and ruin lives,' according to the synopsis. Since the first season aired, the series has attracted a whopping 26 million views. Now, it has been confirmed that MobLand will see a second season and Paramount boss Chris McCarthy shared the news. 'We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to #1 in the United Kingdom,' he said. Meanwhile Joey, 34, has put his £2.2m Essex mansion up for rent for a whopping £10,000 a month after deciding to leave the UK for a year to train as a boxer. The reality star is believed to have signed himself up to undergo intensive training at gyms in Los Angeles and Dubai. He is reportedly getting in shape to tackle some of the biggest names in boxing, including KSI, Jake Paul and YouTuber Deji Olatunji. He is being supported with his boxing dreams by Misfits Boxing, whose co-founder, Mams Taylor, said he has got the commitment needed to succeed in the ring. Mams said said: 'Joey's got family background in boxing so I think he's excited to get in the ring and we're excited to have him. 'Joey's going to be very committed, we've spoken daily for the last few days and he's really on it.' MissFits was launched in 2022 by YouTuber KSI and boxing promoter Mams. Mams perviously SunSport that Joey needs to take his training seriously but said he is 'not someone who's gonna do this half-a****'. He added: 'I'm very confident we'll see Joey Essex in a Misfits ring, very soon. 'Sooner rather than later.'
