BBAU is first choice for over 800 candidates

Time of India11-07-2025
Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) became the first preference of around 800 candidates from across the country who confirmed their admission against 2,000 seats in the first round of online counselling.
According to university officials, this was the highest admission taken after fee submission in the first phase of counselling in the last three years.
"We are extremely happy with the response from the candidates. On July 7, we declared the centralised score list for candidates who cracked the CUET with high scores. Our 40% seats got filled, which means that BBAU is among the first choice of candidates from across the country," said BBAU admission chairperson Prof Amit Kumar Singh.
He said a candidate who appears for CUET fills multiple universities, be it Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University or others. Interestingly, if around 800 candidates locked seats who hold high CUET scores, it reflects that BBAU is their first choice.
He said online counselling was held from July 8 to 10, during which candidates got their document verification done and submitted fees.
Vice-chancellor Prof RK Mittal said: "BBAU's A++ NAAC grade and good rankings across four NIRF categories in the previous year is the reason for the good response from CUET high scorers."

BHU To Consider Both CUET, 12th Marks For Admission After Over 1000 Seats Left Vacant

BHU Admission 2025: For the vacant seats in UG and PG courses, BHU will now consider both CUET scores and academic merit, including 12th or graduation marks. Despite thorough exam preparation, results sometimes fall short of expectations. Entrance tests like CUET can be particularly unforgiving, where even minor mistakes can undermine significant effort. This often leaves students questioning their next steps. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has alleviated some of this concern by introducing a new admission policy. For the vacant seats in UG and PG courses, BHU will now consider both CUET scores and academic merit, including 12th or graduation marks. This decision benefits students who may not have ranked well in CUET but have strong academic records. The UGC emphasises that vacant seats are detrimental to both the university and the students. With classrooms and resources ready, it is illogical for seats to remain unoccupied. Hence, BHU and other universities now have the option to admit students based on merit as well. According to reports, thousands of seats are still vacant in various courses at BHU. PG Courses: Out of around 10,000 seats, approximately 1,200 seats are vacant. UG Courses: Out of 9,200 seats, a significant number of seats are still vacant. UGC says that leaving such seats vacant is a waste of resources, hence they must be filled at all costs. UGC Secretary Manish R. Joshi has stated that future admissions will require CUET scores, but this year, vacant seats can be filled based on merit. This provides relief for students, as they need not worry about CUET scores this year. With vacant seats at BHU, the opportunity for admission remains. Even if students do not perform well in CUET, they can still study at a prestigious institute like BHU if they have a solid academic record. This new policy offers hope to those who have been disadvantaged by costly coaching and lengthy entrance exams, saving them from wasting an entire year. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Separate calendars to end exam date confusion

Indore: In a move aimed at bringing clarity and predictability to students' academic schedules, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) has, for the first time, introduced three separate academic calendars for its 34 University Teaching Departments (UTDs). The decision is expected to particularly benefit students juggling competitive exams, internships, and coursework, as it eliminates uncertainty in exam and result timelines. University officials said the new system addresses a persistent issue caused by overlapping admission and examination schedules in recent years. Since DAVV joined the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) in 2022, the admission process for CUET-based courses stretched into late August or even September, often clashing with non-CUET and engineering course timelines. This left students unclear about when exams would be held and results declared, making it difficult to plan further studies or competitive exam preparations. Under the revised arrangement, over 100 non-CUET courses will hold first-semester examinations between November 25 and December 15, with results declared within seven days. JEE-based engineering courses at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) will conduct exams from December 5 to 24, also with a one-week result window. These results too will be declared within seven days."This ensures that every student knows exactly when their exams, results, and review processes will take place," said Controller of Exam Dr Ashesh Tiwari. "It will also help them schedule competitive exam preparation, internships, and other academic activities without last-minute changes." Students have welcomed the step, calling it a much-needed fix. The calendars will soon be available on university's website. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
