Colson Smith lands huge TV presenting role after brutal Coronation Street axe

Daily Mirror14-07-2025
The actor left his role as PC Craig Tinker on the ITV soap in May when his alter-ego was brutally killed off, and now the star has already landed a new role.
Colson Smith left his role as PC Craig Tinker on Coronation Street when his alter-ego was brutally killed off earlier this year, but he has now landed a new TV role. The former soap star, 26, was seen on Monday's This Morning where he appeared live from Weymouth to host an item on the best sand castles in the UK.
Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard introduced viewers to the segment, and an excited Colson began to deliver a piece to camera.

Despite being known for starring on the Manchester-based soap, Colson revealed to viewers that he was actually born in Dorset.

Joking that the some fans may have been "fooled" by is Northern accent, he explained that his grandparents live just minutes from where he was presenting.
Standing in front of a massive sand sculpture, Colson was joined by master and expert Mark Anderson and the pair chatted as they made their way through Sandworld.
Mark noted that the sculptures behind them can take anywhere up to a "couple of months" to produce, and Colson set to work building his own castle.

Getting his hands dirty, the former Big Brother star joked that a new job offer could be on the table and then took viewers round the famous characters on display at the tourist destination.
The attraction already has a host of Disney favourites on display, but Colson left hosts Cat and Ben shocked with the revelation that they have been constructed in sand and seated on the famous ITV sofa.

While Ben declared the construction was "amazing", Cat attempted to recreate her sandy alter-ego's pout. Experts revealed that the sculpture had taken over a week to produce, and Colson confirmed to viewers that the pair will be on display all summer.
Colson first appeared on Coronation Street in 2011, when he was introduced as the son of Beth Tinker (Lisa George) and she took him along to an ill-fated date with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson.)
Over the years, he featured in a number of storylines that saw him battle OCD and then have an on/off romance with Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) before he ultimately qualified as a police office.

But things ended in tragedy for Craig when he was murdered by Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton), and Colson recently teased that new things were on the horizon for his career..
While he didn't specify what it was or whether it was TV or something else, he did confirm he was already working on something with other big plans ahead. He spilled: "There are irons in the fire, but I will do the typical showbizzy thing of just teasing.
"Everyone always thinks there's nothing going on, but there actually is. So you know, I've got stuff going on. I'm excited. I'm going through the process still of winding down from having been somewhere for 14 years, but I'm excited to see what's next, and hopefully I can find somewhere to go to work and have fun."

Greggs and KFC team up to launch sausage roll drenched in gravy

The high street food giants have worked together for the first time to offer the Greggs sausage roll with KFC gravy, claiming it is the 'mash-up the nation's been craving' and 'seriously flavoursome'. The brands said the alliance followed Britons consuming 15,000 litres of KFC gravy and more than one million Greggs sausage rolls every day over the past year. They are taking the new combination on a three-day tour from Thursday, handing it out for free in London on August 7, followed by Manchester on August 8 and Newcastle on August 9. A sharing bucket including six Greggs sausage rolls and a large tub of KFC gravy will be available for £10 on Friday August 15 and Saturday August 16 through Uber Eats in London, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham. KFC brand manager Phoebe Syms said: 'At KFC, we bleed gravy. We go to obsessive lengths for our liquid gold, and so do our fans. 'In fact, it was them who inspired this once-in-a-lifetime event, calling for us to partner with Greggs and unite our iconic gravy with their iconic sausage rolls. 'Now we're joining forces for just a few days to give the people a taste of what they really want … it's time for gravy to meet pastry. You're welcome.' Fiona Mills, brand communications lead at Greggs, said: 'With 96 layers of light puff pastry, and perfectly baked to give that satisfying golden crisp and flaky goodness, we've always known our sausage rolls are a true British icon. And why not pair one icon with another? 'We can't wait to see what Greggs and KFC fans make of our latest partnership. We're sure fans of both brands will enjoy devouring their Greggs x KFC sharing bucket.' The tour will stop at London's Southbank Centre on Thursday, followed by Manchester's Cathedral Gardens on Friday and then Newcastle's Times Square, all between 12pm and 5pm, with supplies available on a first come, first served basis. Last week, Greggs revealed a slump in profits as it was knocked by hot weather and caution among shoppers over their finances. The Newcastle-based business revealed that pre-tax profits fell by 14.3% to £63.5 million for the half-year to June 28, compared with a year earlier. It said the first half of 2025 was impacted by 'challenging market footfall, more weather disruption than in 2024' and increased costs.

Rachel Zegler's West End Debut Is Summer's Hottest Ticket

Along the busy lanes of Argyll Street, Londoners and tourists weave past each other in a graceful chaos, lured into restaurants and trendy bars that charge double for the ambience. It's all a bit much. Unless of course, the sun is shining. In that case, the city shifts magically: tables spill onto pavements, spritzes sparkle in the light, and 10 pm sunsets cast an endless golden-hour spell. Lately, however, the street's charm seems to have increased tenfold. The reason? Rachel Zegler's musical interlude courtesy of Jamie Lloyd's production of Evita at The London Palladium. You've likely come across the scene that has London's theatre scene buzzing on social media already. Every night, Zegler's Eva Perón exits the stage at the The London Palladium and performs the show's biggest number 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' to the Argyll Street audience, while the showgoers inside watch on a livestream. Much has been said and written about this fourth wall break: Why give the show's biggest number away for free? Is it a gimmick? What about the ticket holders inside the theatre? But at its core, it's a stroke of genius from Lloyd. Zegler, who shot to fame in West Side Story , has recently weathered much backlash for Disney's Snow White , while Lloyd has faced critique of his over-reliance on an A-list cast (he's responsible for Tom Holland in Romeo and Juliet and Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell in Much Ado About Nothing) and overly minimalist sets. So, it makes poetic sense that the two have joined forces for this tale that's centered on the court of public opinion. Far from Madonna's take on the Argentinian first lady, Zegler's Eva packs a contemporary bravado in her bra top, hot pants and boots as her charismatic star power lights up the brutalist stage setting. She plays the role with a dazzling shrewdness that's sexy and almost dangerous. There's something intriguing about watching a woman unapologetically own her ambition, especially when it's backed by Zegler's raw star power. Zegler's star power isn't the only thing pulling Evita to the top of our summer wishlist. There's Diego Andres Rodriguez's Che, who narrates with an interrogative flair, while James Olivas' Juan Perón is a magnetic and calculating presence. The choreography is a riot of resistance and revelry. Imbued with a certain rock and roll energy, Jamie Lloyd's Evita revival is a spectacle where the narrative is messy and the politics are performative. Its timely anti-fascist sentiment makes it an apt mirror for our times. 1. Evita It's influence-culture and modern-day politics distilled into a dazzling performance and wrapped in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's greatest score. Sure, if it's gowns and operatic grandeur you're after, Jamie Lloyd's Evita may not be for you. However, there's a certain thrill to watching theatre reinvent itself, on stage and in public. As radical as the story itself, Evita at The London Palladiumis an experience that deserves to be felt in person. With Zegler's full-blown ascent into superstar status both inside and out, this is absolutely the unmissable event of the summer. If you're keen on seeing Zegler take centre stage inside The London Palladium, head to LW Theatres to book tickets to Zegler's electrifying West End debut now.
