How Discord Gaming Communities Are Changing the Online World
Discord is a free app that lets people talk using voice, video, or text. At first, it was mainly built for gamers. Now, people use it for all sorts of things, like school groups, businesses, hobbies, and more. But for gamers, Discord is still a favorite. It gives them a place to chat while playing games, share cool clips, and stay connected.
Discord Servers are like online rooms or clubs where people hang out. Each server can have many smaller channels for different topics. For example, a Minecraft server may have channels for building tips, screenshots, and chatting with friends.
A gaming community forms when players who enjoy the same game come together. Discord makes it easy to start or join these communities. You can find servers for almost any game you like—Fortnite, Valorant, Call of Duty, Roblox, and more. Once inside a server, you can talk with other fans, find new teammates, and share game updates.
Many gamers say Discord helps them feel like they belong. It's a space where everyone shares the same interest. You don't have to feel alone even if you're playing a solo game. There's always someone online to chat with.
There are many reasons why gamers love Discord:
Easy to Use: You can join a server with just one click. The design is simple and user-friendly.
Voice and Video Chat: Gamers can talk while playing, which helps with teamwork.
Custom Channels: Servers can have text channels for tips, memes, or game news, and voice channels for playing together.
Bots and Tools: Many servers use bots for fun games, music, or even moderating the server.
All of this helps build strong and active gaming communities.
Before Discord, gamers often used forums or in-game chat to talk. These were not always the best for making friends. Now, people can join a Discord Server and quickly start chatting with others who like the same things.
You can make real, long-lasting friendships on Discord. Some people even meet in person after getting to know each other on a server. Others start working together on gaming projects or streaming content.
The world of esports (competitive gaming) is growing fast, and Discord plays a big role in it. Many esports teams have their own Discord Servers where fans can follow news, watch live streams, and chat with players.
Streamers also use Discord to build their audience. They create servers where fans can talk, get updates, and feel like part of a community. This helps streamers stay connected with their followers even when they're not live.
Believe it or not, gaming communities on Discord can also be educational. Players often teach each other tricks, share tutorials, and help beginners learn the game. Some servers are even made just for learning!
For example, a Minecraft server might have lessons on building cool structures, or a coding server might teach how to make your own game. Learning feels fun and friendly in these spaces.
One of the best things about Discord is that server owners can control the rules. This helps create safe and friendly environments. Many Discord Servers have moderators who watch out for bad behavior. They keep the server clean from bullying, hate speech, or spam.
Some servers even offer support channels where members can talk about their feelings or get help from others. This makes Discord more than just a place for games—it becomes a caring and positive space.
Big games like Fortnite or Apex Legends have huge servers. But Discord also helps small games grow. Indie game developers often create a server to build a gaming community around their game. They use it to gather feedback, share updates, and connect with fans.
Because Discord is free and easy to use, it's perfect for small teams or solo creators. This gives everyone a chance to grow their games with real support from players.
One of the most amazing things about Discord is how it connects people from around the world. Gamers in Pakistan can chat with players in Canada. Teens in Brazil can team up with friends from Japan. This helps people learn about different cultures, languages, and ways of thinking.
It's not just about games—it's about building a global network of friends.
Discord Servers are changing the online world in big ways. They are helping gamers connect, share, and grow in ways that were never possible before. These digital spaces have become more than just chatrooms—they are real communities where people feel at home.
From teaching new players to building teams and friendships, Discord is helping shape the future of gaming. Whether you're a casual player or a competitive one, there's a gaming community on Discord waiting for you. So if you haven't joined yet, maybe now is the perfect time.

NYT ‘Connections' Hints For Friday, July 11: Today's Clues And Answers
Find the links between the words to win today's game of Connections. Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Sunday's: Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the start of a new week. I'm delighted to be back with you. Normally, I start Monday editions of my Connections column with an upbeat song. I really want you all to be in as great a mood as possible at the start of the week (and every other day!). A fun tune and maybe a little dance can help make that happen. But I'm not going to do that this time, and I'll explain why. You've probably seen today's Connections grid at this point. If you know, you know. So, this time, I'll bring you have multiple relevant songs in my usual recommendation section at the bottom of today's edition. It'll all make sense when we get there. Promise. Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us. Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes. Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Monday, July 14 are coming right up. How To Play Connections Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app. You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part. There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them. Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay. Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap. If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed. Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find our hints Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query. What Are Today's Connections Hints? Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today's Connections groups, I'll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them. Today's 16 words are... And the hints for today's Connections groups are: One Word For Each Connections Group Need some extra help? Be warned: we're starting to get into spoiler territory. Let's take a look at one word for each group. Today's Connections word hints are… What Are Today's Connections Groups? Today's Connections groups are... What Are Today's Connections Answers? Spoiler alert! Don't scroll any further down the page until you're ready to find out today's Connections answers. This is your final warning! Today's Connections answers are... With absolutely zero hesitation, not even pausing for a second to consider whether they might be a red herring, I guessed a group of SPORTY, GINGER, BABY and SCARY – the nicknames of four of the Spice Girls. I am a '90s kid. I am duty bound to form a guess with those. Alas, those did not form a group. I was not one away either. But I am okay with that. I will take the deserved L and be happy with it. But hey, I still had three lives remaining and a puzzle to solve. I figured that SPORTY might be a reference to a car and quickly found three other words that made sense. I don't care much about cars, but something must have stuck in my brain from those times I watched Top Gear way back when. The yellows (or are they blues?) were up next. The grid bunched BABY, ICE and POWDER together, making them easy to spot. There was something about JOLLY and MISTER that caught my eye. For some reason, "roger" popped into my head. That made sense, given the JOLLY Roger flag and MISTER (Fred) Rogers of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood fame. Actors GINGER Rogers and ROY Rogers worked with those too, and thus I had the blues. I couldn't make head nor tail of the purple group, which is a little ironic, given that my only inkling was that it had something to do with fish or seafood (BELLED = "jellied" eel? I really don't know). But no, it was a little more abstract than that! I do know all of these, by the way, since they refer to characters from Disney's legendary early '90s run – perhaps the Spice Girl nicknames were a subtle hint in that direction? Anyway, here's what they refer to: An excellent puzzle today, I thought. I didn't get a perfect game this time, but that's my 139th win on the spin. Here's my grid for today: 🟩🟦🟨🟪 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟪🟪🟪🟪 That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Friday's game if you need them. P.S. I mean, what else could today's song recommendation possibly be other than this: Well, and this: And one more, because why not (although we'll have have to pretend one very, very ill-advised lyric never happened): Look, I like Spice Girls, okay? Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love! Please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes.

HBO Max top 10 movies — here's the 3 worth watching right now
Hope y'all are surviving this heat wave alright. As for me, I've been hiding out in my air-conditioned living room, catching up on what's new on the best streaming service. But figuring out what to watch next can quickly turn into a headache with so many new movies coming and going all the time. That's why we regularly comb through Max's top 10 list of most-watched movies to see what's got everyone buzzing, but there's bound to be some duds that don't live up to the hype. So we're highlighting the best of the bunch to help you put your precious streaming time to good use. Leading the pack this week is Ryan Coogler's must-watch vampire thriller, a blockbuster video game adaptation that kids everywhere are obsessed with, and a powerful documentary from one of TV's greatest detectives. So without further ado, let's dive into the best three movies in HBO Max's top 10 list. I'll admit, I was late to the "Sinners" train. But I'm happy to report it's every bit as good as everyone says. Director Ryan Coogler's vampire horror blockbuster feels more like church than a movie; its sound design is so spell-binding and stunningly electric, you can't help but get swept up in the fever. Honestly, maybe it's for the best that I didn't catch this movie in theaters. I'd have been shoutin' down the aisles. Set in 1930s Mississippi, "Sinners" tells the story of twin brothers (both played by long-time Coogler collaborator Michael B. Jordan), who return to their hometown to convert an abandoned sawmill into a lively juke joint. Opening night is a roaring success, until a gang of vampires crashes the party hellbent on siphoning the talents and vitality of their community. Blending horror and thrills with a cinematic flair and a haunting score, "Sinners" is an absolute must-watch for horror and music fans alike. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Watch it now on Max Mariska Hargitay is one of television's most beloved detectives, and as it turns out, she's also a gifted storyteller behind the camera. In a deeply personal and emotional documentary, Hargitay turns the lens on her own past, sharing the story of her mother, Hollywood star Jayne Mansfield, who died in a car crash when Hargitay was just three years old. The film traces Hargitay's journey as she finally confronts a legacy she was once told to avoid, and reclaims her mother's story on her own terms. As she unpacks the carefully crafted image of Mansfield's Hollywood persona, Hargitay shines a light on how the "dumb blonde" facade was a carefully calculated performance. She also uncovers long-buried truths, including revelations about her biological father. The result is a poignant and powerful film, where the honesty and vulnerability of Hargitay and her family resonate with heartbreaking clarity. Watch it now on Max Surprising no one, "A Minecraft Movie" is still holding strong in the Max top 10 after Minecraft fever swept the world this summer. Packed with meme-worthy moments, vibrant visuals, and over-the-top characters, this sugar rush of a film could prove delightful or tooth-achingly annoying depending on your tastes. This chaotic adventure follows a misfit crew (Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen) who stumble through a portal into the blocky, unpredictable Minecraft Overworld. To get home, they'll need to join forces with Steve (Jack Black), a seasoned crafter with a few screws loose who's been stuck there for decades, and put their imagination to the test. Watch it now on Max HBO Max: Starts at $9.99/monthOur favorite streaming service combines quality and quantity. Its library contains HBO prestige shows like "House of the Dragon" and "White Lotus," blockbuster movies from Warner Bros. and DC, plus reality TV and true crime docs from Discovery's family of networks.
