Two teens killed after motorcycle hit by car
Temerloh district police chief ACP Mazlan Hassan said the rider of the Yamaha Ego Avantiz motorcycle, Nur Irdina Shaffiya Muhammad Nazri, and the pillion rider, Aneez Irdiena Sofya Khairul Azman, both aged 18, died on the spot in the accident, which happened at about 11 pm.
Mazlan said an inspection of the car involved in the crash uncovered plastic packets suspected to contain syabu and heroin, estimated to be worth over RM6,000.
He said the 38-year-old driver, who is from Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, has been detained for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
'Preliminary investigations found that the two were travelling in the direction of Mentakab towards the Bukit Angin roundabout.
'When they stopped at a red light, a Perodua Bezza is believed to have rammed into the back of their motorcycle,' he said in a statement today.
He said their bodies had been taken to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh for a post-mortem.

JPJ seizes 270 luxury vehicles in nationwide Ops Luxury crackdown
JOHOR BAHRU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has confiscated 270 luxury vehicles across Malaysia for operating without valid road tax and insurance under Ops Luxury. The operation, active since July 1, targets luxury cars driven without proper documentation nationwide. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli stated that the crackdown ensures strict action against non-compliant vehicle owners. 'This operation is a stern measure against luxury vehicles that are being driven without paying road tax, with some also without insurance coverage,' he said. Seized vehicles will remain impounded until owners settle outstanding road tax, insurance, and summonses. Among the detained cars were a Ferrari in Johor Bahru and a Rolls-Royce in Kuala Lumpur with unpaid road tax of RM29,000 annually. A Lamborghini Huracán with RM12,000 annual road tax was also seized during the operation. Aedy revealed some vehicles had lapsed road tax for over a year, with one case in Kuala Lumpur reaching three years. The owner of the three-year-lapsed vehicle claimed to have 'forgotten' to renew the road tax. Ops Luxury will expand to Perlis, Sabah, and Sarawak as part of continuous enforcement efforts. 'We do not want luxury vehicles on the road without valid road tax and insurance,' Aedy emphasised. He highlighted the high public safety risks if uninsured luxury vehicles are involved in accidents. Legal action has been initiated against several owners in court for non-compliance. Owners who settle their arrears can reclaim their vehicles after fulfilling all requirements. China national fined RM25,000 for harbouring illegals

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old China national was fined a total of RM25,000 by the Sessions Court here for harbouring five illegal immigrants at premises under his control. Li Hao pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, who imposed a RM5,000 fine for each illegal immigrant involved. In default of payment, Li will face six months' imprisonment per charge. Li was found to have allowed five Filipino nationals — two women and three men, aged between 18 and 48 — who lacked valid travel documents, to remain at the Liubaba Lease premises in Taman Emas, Jalan Penampang, around 9.10pm on July 10 this year. The offence falls under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 55E(2) of the same Act. The law provides for a fine between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both, for each illegal immigrant found on the premises. In mitigation, Li appealed for leniency. However, Prosecuting Officer Mohd Sharifuddin Salim urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence to serve as a deterrent. In a separate case in the same court, four Filipino nationals were jailed four months each after pleading guilty to entering the State without valid travel documents. Nanette Sapnay Pili, Cherry Mae Sampung Bernardino, Junaida Omar, and Kc Marwuez Sanchez were arrested during an Immigration enforcement operation at an entertainment outlet in Tanjung Aru at 1.20am on Aug 3. The four failed to produce valid identification documents during the operation. The court ordered their sentences to run from the date of their arrest. Contractor fined for failing to appear as witness

Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old contractor was fined RM3,000 by the Sessions Court here for failing to appear as a witness at the Immigration Department office in Kudat. Liew Ket Vui pleaded guilty before Judge Hurman Hussain to the charge of failing to comply with a summons without reasonable excuse. The court ordered that he serve six months' jail in default of payment. Liew paid the fine. According to the facts of the case, Liew failed to present himself at the Kudat Immigration office at 9am on June 3 this year, as required in a summons issued to him in connection with an investigation. The offence falls under Section 40(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 57 of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000, or imprisonment of up to one year, or both, on conviction. Liew, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency. However, Prosecuting Officer Mohd Sharifuddin Salim urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence to serve as a lesson not only to the accused but also to the general public, emphasising the importance of complying with lawful instructions from enforcement authorities.
