Michigan football entered the weekend with two cornerbacks committed -- Andre Clarke and Brody Jennings -- but the latter ended up flipping to Miami on Saturday.
It took quite some time in the process before the maize and blue had some traction, as it appeared he was likely Penn State-bound, but 2026 Carrollton (Ga.) four-star cornerback visited Ann Arbor for Victors Weekend and apparently made a move. Texas A&M and Georgia Tech also posed major threats, but soon after his official visit, Michigan football started getting predictions he'd end up in Ann Arbor.
That came to fruition on Saturday as Barney committed to the Wolverines. He made his commitment live on the Rivals YouTube channel.
Barney is Michigan's 21st commitment in the 2026 class, and the remaining targets are now few. Five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell is also set to decide on Saturday, five-star running back Savion Hiter is setting a commitment date soon, and four-star safety Davon Benjamin is likely to decide in early August. Michigan is still working on four-star linebackers Nick Abrams II and Brayden Rouse.
Here is the class as it currently stands:
All rankings by the 247Sports Composite
Barney is the second prospect that Michigan has gotten from the state of Georgia. Georgia, Virginia, Texas, and Washington D.C. appear to be the hottest areas for Michigan football recruiting in 2026.

The frightening moment halted play and drew immediate medical attention on the field. Today, relief has followed as Norris shared an encouraging message on social media. Norris was injured after making a tackle when his head appeared to collide with the knee of Falcons running back Nathan Carter. Following the outpouring of concern from fans and teammates, Norris posted to Instagram: "Amen Amen I'm all good man don't stress it, appreciate all the check ins and love." In what appeared to be a repost shared to his story, Norris highlighted a message. The note read: "Be Grateful When You Pray. ... It is easy to focus only on what we need, but taking time to thank Him changes our hearts and deepens our trust." He included the Bible verse from 1 Thessalonians 5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." After the game was suspended on Friday, the Detroit Lions shared that Morice Norris was in stable condition with "feeling and movement in all extremities." Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.

Even despite likely entering the year as a backup, could 2025 mark the breakout season for Alabama Crimson Tide safety Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.? Kirkpatrick, the son of former Alabama standout cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, enters year two at Alabama this fall as a likely backup at safety, but is still a player who could see a significant amount of action in 2025. However, just how much time could the Alabama legacy end up seeing for the Crimson Tide? Will it come on special teams, or will Kirkpatrick emerge on the Crimson Tide's defense? A potential breakout candidate for the Crimson Tide this season, here is everything you need to know surrounding Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. entering the 2025 campaign. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. player information Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. career stats Kirkpatrick will be entering his second season at Alabama this fall. During his first season a year ago, Kirkpatrick appeared in all 13 games where he made three tackles. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. 2024 stats As mentioned previously, Kirkpatrick's 2024 season at Alabama was his first at the collegiate level, appearing in all 13 games with the Crimson Tide. Over that span, Kirkpatrick had three tackles. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. recruiting ranking According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Kirkpatrick was considered as the nation's No. 861 overall player in the 2024 class, as well as the No. 91 safety nationally. Rated as a three-star recruit, the former in-state product was considered the No. 42 overall player in the state of Alabama out of Gadsden City High School, and committed to the Crimson Tide in Aug. 2023. Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. 2025 season outlook When taking a look at Kirkpatrick's potential impact this fall, it's likely a given that the former in-state prospect is a key name on special teams. However, don't be surprised if Kirkpatrick ends up being a key member of Alabama's defensive unit this fall, as the sophomore should be among the Crimson Tide's top backups at safety. Kirkpatrick will likely not start though due to the presence of Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard, but similar to fellow backup Zavier Mincey, could certainly push for playing time as the season goes along. Overall, expect Kirkpatrick to take a step forward in 2025, and for the Alabama legacy to potentially emerge later in the year. Elijah Golden commits today, will the 2026 defensive lineman pick Notre Dame?

There is one remaining main target for Notre Dame football in the 2026 class, as Florida defensive lineman Elijah Golden will commit later today after pushing back his date from late July. The 6-foot, 4-inch and 275-pounder will have three other hats on the table, as he is also considering Alabama, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech. As the nation's No. 162 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite, Golden would be a great addition to any of his four final teams. Does Notre Dame add yet another top prospect to its 2026 class? Let's take a look at what the experts are saying, starting with 247Sports. There are currently no crystal ball predictions for Golden, so it seems as if their experts are unsure of who he will select. As for Rivals / On3, we reported previously that their Vice President of Recruiting and Transfer Portal Steve Wiltfong believes that the Irish will win out in Golden's recruitment. As for the rest of the picks, they are behind a paywall, but they do have a compilation percentage for the final teams, and the Irish have a very wide margin as they hold 94.3% of the predictions compared to just 1.5% for the next team in Virginia Tech. I'd have to agree with the experts at Rivals / On3, as it very much looks like Golden will be committing to Notre Dame later today.
