Porsche Just Unveiled 3 New All-Wheel Drive 911s

The 4S, which was introduced in 2002 during the 996 generation, isn't the only all-wheel-drive 911, but it is the most accessible. The variant makes its 992.2 debut as part of the upcoming 2026 model year following a one-year absence from the constantly evolving 911 lineup and is positioned between the rear-wheel-drive Carrera S and all-wheel-drive GTS.
The two-door is powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six found in the Carrera S. As in that model, the mill makes 473 hp and 390 ft lbs of torque, which is 30 more hp than before (but the same amount of torque). Thanks to the added power, the car can shoot from zero to 60 mph in a claimed 3.1 seconds when the Sport Chrono package's launch-control system is engaged. Top speed, meanwhile, is listed at 191 hp when summer tires are equipped. The vehicle features an eight-speed PDK, or dual-clutch, transmission, with a manual sadly not available as an option.
The new 4S, like other all-wheel-drive models in the marque's lineup, comes with Porsche traction-management (PTM) system. The torque split favors the rear axle but can send power up front when needed. It also comes with a number of improved standard features, including a sport exhaust with silver tailpipes, upgraded dampers and hydraulics for the suspension, and brakes from the GTS. An active suspension management system and ceramic composite brakes are available as premium add-ons.
The variant features the same visual tweaks that have been found in the line since the 992.2 debut in 2024, including larger air intakes up front and a streamlined rear end. Even the biggest Porsche buff would struggle to tell the 4S apart from the Carrera S if it wasn't for the badging. The interior, meanwhile, remains unchanged.
We'll have to wait for final pricing, but expect the 4S's starting cost to come in somewhere between $146,400 (which is the base ask for the Carrera S) and $169,800 (GTS). Car and Driver reports that the Carrera 4S will likely start at $156,000, the Carrera 4S cabriolet at $170,000, and the Targa 4S at $171,000.Best of Robb Report

Mitsubishi Motors' new Grandis SUV to debut in Europe
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's subsidiary Mitsubishi Motors Europe is set to roll out the all-new Grandis compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Europe, marking the inaugural vehicle under this name to be introduced to the market in 13 years. The vehicle, which will be produced at Renault's Valladolid plant in Spain, is based on the Common Module Family (CMF)-B platform and is supplied by Mitsubishi Motors' Alliance partner Renault on an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) basis. The lineup includes the mild hybrid (MHEV) and hybrid EV (HEV) models. The Grandis, whose name signifies "large and impressive' in Latin, features 19-inch alloy wheels, a two-row, five-seat interior with adjustable rear seats, and an expandable luggage area. The SUV's MHEV powertrain is available with a 1.3-litre direct fuel-injection gasoline turbo engine and a HEV option, offering a combined output of 115kW. The HEV model combines a four-cylinder 1.8-litre gasoline engine with two electric motors, a power electronics box involving two built-in inverters and converters. Additionally, it includes a 1.4 kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion traction battery and a smart multi-mode gearbox. It also offers three driving modes, including an EV mode for electric-only driving, along with an E-Save mode activated at the driver's choice. The Grandis is equipped with a 10.4-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system and advanced connectivity features, including Google built-in. Mitsubishi Motors has also integrated advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and active safety systems in the all-new Grandis. Mitsubishi Motors executive vice president Tatsuo Nakamura said: "Following the launch of the Outlander PHEV last year, we are strengthening our lineup in the European market with the introduction of the all-new Grandis, featuring Mitsubishi Motors' Dynamic Shield design. "With an additional launch of the Eclipse Cross BEV model around the same time, we will offer a diverse range of electrified vehicles—HEV, PHEV, and BEV—to meet the varied needs of our customers." Recently, the company reported a 4.4% rise in global production to 75,350 units this May from 72,199 units in the same month of 2024. Rivian Q2 sales fall 23%, but EV maker sticks to 2025 forecast of at least 40,000 vehicles
Rivian Automotive's electric vehicle sales fell 23 percent in the second quarter compared with a year earlier to 10,661 vehicles, including its two consumer vehicles and commercial vans it builds for Amazon. Despite the sharp decline, Rivian said July 2 that it still expects to deliver 40,000 to 46,000 vehicles this year. 'Production and delivery results for the quarter are in line with Rivian's outlook,' the company said. 'Rivian is also reaffirming its 2025 delivery guidance.' It would need to sell 26,699 vehicles to meet the high end. But the EV maker said production fell 38 percent to 5,979 vehicles in the second quarter 'in preparation for model-year 2026 vehicles expected to launch later this month,' Rivian said in a statement. Rivian's stock price was down about 2 percent in afternoon trading July 2. Rivian doesn't break out sales by model. EV registrations by S&P Global Mobility show model-level data, though the most recent numbers are from April. Registrations for the R1T pickup and R1S crossover fell sharply from January to April, according to S&P Global Mobility. Registrations decreased 24 percent in the four-month period for the R1T and dropped 20 percent for the R1S. Rivian's commercial vans posted a registration gain of 19 percent compared with a year earlier. Future Product Find our what powertrains, redesigns and freshenings are planned for the next four years. View the list Brand future product timelines The EV market is cooling in general, S&P data shows. EV registrations dropped 4.4 percent in April from a year earlier, S&P Global Mobility said. Analysts cite high interest rates and economic uncertainty as key factors behind EV market weakness. A growing list of gasoline-electric hybrid models are also taking sales from fully electric vehicles, they said. Sign up for the weekly Automotive News Mobility Report newsletter for the latest developments at the intersection of transportation and technology. Rivian's three-row R1S faces growing EV competition from Lucid, Cadillac, Volvo, Hyundai and others entering into the segment, analysts say. Also, EV pickups — including the R1T —are selling poorly as buyers prefer gasoline trucks or hybrids. Rivian has advertised discounts in recent months to stimulate demand for its vehicles. They include lease deals incorporating the $7,500 federal tax credit, which faces repeal in the budget bill moving through Congress. To broaden its market, Rivian plans to launch a lower-priced crossover next year, the R2, with a starting price around $45,000 before shipping. The R1T starts at $71,700 including shipping and the R1S starts at $77,700 with shipping. Rivian has announced higher prices for the 2026 model year. The R1T's starting price will rise to $72,885 and the R1S will start at $78,885, Rivian said in June. Both prices include shipping. CEO RJ Scaringe said in May that rising tariffs on imported automotive components are increasing costs for the automaker. Have an opinion about this story?
