‘Don't record video while beating': Complaint against Raj Thackeray for hate speech; remark sparks outrage
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena
(MNS) chief
Raj Thackeray
over his controversial remark during a recent public address.
The complaint seeks action under the National Security Act (NSA) against the MNS chief, citing his controversial comments as promoting vigilantism and social unrest.
In his speech, Raj Thackeray said that while everyone residing in Maharashtra, including Gujaratis, should know Marathi, there was no justification for assaulting those who didn't speak the language.

However, he added that if someone creates unnecessary drama over the issue, they deserved to be physically struck.
While speaking on the importance of Marathi language, Thackeray said, 'Be it Gujarati or anyone else here, must know Marathi, but there is no need to beat people for that if they don't speak Marathi.
But if someone shows useless drama, you must hit below their eardrums.'
What drew further criticism was his follow-up remark discouraging the documentation of violence:
'I tell you one more thing: if you beat someone, don't make a video of the incident. Let the person beaten up tell that he has been beaten up, you don't need to tell everyone that you have beaten someone.'
The remarks have triggered backlash from political leaders, civil society groups, and social media users, who accused Thackeray of promoting hate and trying to encourage violence while avoiding accountability.

Dill Mill Gayye fame Pankit Thakker addresses ongoing Hindi-Marathi language row; says, "It's time for us to take a step back"
Over the past few days, Maharashtra has seen growing debate around the use of Hindi-Marathi language. Actor Pankit Thakker, who currently plays Chandru in the TV show Saru, was asked for his thoughts on the issue. Choosing to stay away from the controversy, Pankit politely declined to comment, saying he didn't want to add fuel to the fire. Instead, he emphasized the importance of setting aside differences and coming together for the growth and progress of Maharashtra. He shared, 'We live in a beautiful country where our diverse cultures and languages are a strength, not a weakness. It's important that we celebrate unity and brotherhood. I have no desire to add to any controversy, but I will say that the recent tensions over the Hindi-Marathi language issue in Maharashtra have led to heated debates and, sadly, even violence. As someone who calls this great state home, I'm genuinely concerned about the growing divide that's putting our social harmony at risk. This is the time to pause, reflect on our shared values, and come together to find a path that uplifts and includes everyone.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? Uddhav Thackeray urges INDIA to convene meeting ahead of assembly election in Bihar and local body polls in Maharashtra
Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has urged INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) to convene a meeting ahead of the upcoming Bihar election and local civic body elections in Maharashtra, noting that such a meeting had not taken place since the last parliamentary election. The opposition parties had formed INDIA against the BJP for the 2024 parliamentary election, with the Congress serving as the leading member. While addressing the media outside the assembly on Monday, Thackeray said, "After Lok Sabha election, INDIA meeting needs to take place and I want it to take place at the earliest. There will be an election in Bihar, other states, and in Maharashtra too the local civic bodies elections are coming, for which INDIA meeting should take place." Thackeray also indicated his intention to contest the election alongside the MNS, led by his cousin Raj Thackeray, whose party workers had recently assaulted a shopkeeper for not speaking Marathi. The undivided Shiv Sena, which had ruled the BMC for over two decades, had split into two factions: Shive Sena led by deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray. Thackeray told the media that his party symbol was "stolen" and added that the election commission had no authority to allocate a party name to others, stating, "We had never accepted and will never accept it."

Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS workers among 20 booked for assaulting auto driver over anti-Marathi remarks
Palghar: Police have registered a case against 20 persons, including office-bearers of Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS, for allegedly assaulting an autorickshaw driver in public in Virar over his anti-Marathi remarks and refusal to speak the language. Nobody was arrested, said a police official on Monday. The official said 13 of the 20 accused have been identified. A viral video showed the auto driver, Raju Patwa, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, being slapped by a group, including women, on a busy road near Virar railway station on July 12. Activists alleged that the driver had made derogatory remarks against the Marathi language, Maharashtra and Marathi icons. The attack on the driver was triggered by a video clip, which had surfaced on social media and drawn sharp reactions online and from local political groups. Virar city chief of the Shiv Sena (UBT) Uday Jadhav, who was present at the spot on Saturday, said anybody who insults the Marathi language, Maharashtra or Marathi people will get a reply in true Shiv Sena style. Amid outrage over the incident, police registered an FIR against 20 persons under sections 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object,) 191(2) (rioting), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351(2) )(criminal intimidation). Provisions under the Maharashtra Police Act have also been invoked. The FIR was lodged by a police officer. "A group of around 20 individuals unlawfully assembled at the Marjetia Naka rickshaw stand in Virar on July 12. This assembly violated the prohibitory orders currently in force under directives from the MBVV (Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar) police commissioner," the officer said. He said the group, allegedly comprising activists and office-bearers of Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS, confronted rickshaw driver, Raju Patva. "They demanded that he speak Marathi, forced him to apologise, and then assaulted and threatened him," he added. He said nobody has been arrested so far as police are verifying the roles of each individual named in the FIR and investigating.
