Dak Prescott once looked like the ruler of the NFC East. While he had a strong rivalry with former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz early on in his career, it was short-lived. The New York Giants dealt with a transition from Eli Manning to Daniel Jones, and the Washington Commanders spent years cycling through options in an attempt to find somebody who would stick.
While all that was happening, the Cowboys gladly stuck with Prescott. These days, though, the Dallas quarterback seems to be falling behind. With years of postseason shortcomings and a recent injury that caused a nine-game absence in 2024, the love is barely there for Prescott from a national standpoint.
NFL Analyst Nick Shook recently ranked the quarterbacks of each division to weigh the strength of the position on a divisional basis. The NFC East is strong up top, but when it reaches Prescott, that's where the question marks happen.
"In many previous years, Prescott would be the unquestioned top quarterback among the four," Shook wrote.
"Instead, after missing nine games in 2024, he's third among this group, according to the year-end QBI rankings, and is going to need a strong bounceback season to usurp the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year (Daniels) and Super Bowl LIX MVP (Hurts). That's how high the bar is in the NFC East."

Dak Prescott #4 of the Dallas Cowboys walks off the field after a loss to the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on November 03, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. The 31-year-old Prescott entered the NFL with low expectations in 2016. While the media debated Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, who went one and two that year, the fourth-round Prescott ended up shining brighter than both, winning the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
It was a dream season for the Cowboys, who finished 13-3 that year. Prescott completed 68 percent of his passes for over 3,600 yards and tossed 23 touchdowns to just four interceptions.
Prescott has been consistent throughout his career—but he hasn't been good enough to propel the Cowboys to the same heights as his rookie year. Since winning 13 games in 2016, the Cowboys have notched double-digit wins with Prescott under center just three other times in eight seasons.
In 2023, Prescott was having an impressive run as he completed a career-high 70 percent of his passes throughout the year. He threw for over 4,500 for just the second time. He led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes and turned it over via interception fewer than 10 times.
After finishing 12-5, the Cowboys looked ready to make a deep run. They ended up being one-and-done. Unfortunately, Prescott's bounce-back year ended after just eight games. Dallas had notched a record of just 3-5 when he went down.
As Prescott approaches new lows in his career, his NFC East peers have been on a tear. Jayden Daniels took over the league by storm, just as Prescott did during his rookie campaign. Jalen Hurts fought through a season full of criticism and ended up leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl, where he was named the MVP.
The only player Prescott has beaten out in this case is Russell Wilson. This season, Wilson joins the New York Giants as a one-year rental after his lone season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Although there have been rumblings of a strong spring for the former Pro Bowler, there has been more buzz surrounding a future benching for Wilson, more than anything. For Prescott to be ranked only four spots higher than Wilson at this stage is concerning.
If Prescott is motivated by bulletin board material, then he'll get what he needs this year. Being the only NFC East starting passer without an NFC Championship appearance under his belt, Prescott is losing his juice in the division as a new set of passers take the spotlight.

Big Aaron Rodgers Announcement Crushes Patriots' Dreams
Big Aaron Rodgers Announcement Crushes Patriots' Dreams originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New England Patriots pass rush was the worst in the NFL last season, with just 28 sacks, placing them 32nd out of the 32 teams. But according to media speculation this week, New England could have one trade in mind to solve the problem. Advertisement New head coach Mike Vrabel has taken steps to upgrade the pass rush, but according to Patriots correspondent Jordy McElroy of USA Today Patriotswire, New England could seal the deal by targeting Pittsburgh Steelers seven-time Pro Bowl pick T.J. Watt in that trade. Aaron RodgersCredits to Imagin Watt will be entering the final season of his four-year, $112 million contract with the Steelers, and remains in a standoff with the team over a potential new deal. Without one, he becomes a free agent after the 2025 season — which makes his asking price in a trade probably more reasonable than it otherwise would be, if he were not on an expiring deal. Watt has led the NFL in sacks three times in his eight-year career. Last season was a "down" year for the 30-year-old linebacker, and he still piled up 11 1/2 sacks. Acquiring him could solve New England's pass rush problem overnight. Advertisement But speaking on ESPN's Pat McCaffee Show on Tuesday, new Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers made an announcement that in all likelihood crushes the Patriots' dreams of trading for Watt. "I'm pretty sure this is it. That's why we just did a one-year deal," the 20-year veteran and future Hall of Famer told McCaffee, confirming that he plans to retire after the 2025 campaign. "Steelers didn't need to put any extra years on that or anything. This was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I've had." How does that affect the Patriots? According to McElroy, with Rodgers in his final season, the Steelers seem unlikely to part with Watt. "Perhaps the Steelers are putting all of their chips on the table with the Rodgers signing and going all in for a final Super Bowl run," the Patriotswire scribe wrote on Wednesday. "If that's the case, they likely wouldn't be in the market for moving on from one of the best defensive players in the league." Advertisement With nearly $61 million in remaining cap space, Watt would not cause any financial issues for the Patriots. But Rodgers' retirement announcement appears to make it a moot point anyway. George Kittle Gets Brutally Honest About Retirement Plans
George Kittle Gets Brutally Honest About Retirement Plans originally appeared on Athlon Sports. George Kittle has established himself as one of the top tight ends in the NFL and proved it again last season. The San Francisco 49er finished with 78 catches for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns despite a major down year for the team. Advertisement At age 31 Kittle remains one of the more reliably productive offensive players in the league which helped him earn a four-year $76.4 million deal this offseason. But as he revealed on the "Bussin with the Boys" podcast, the length of that extension may be the final window of his career in the NFL. 'I don't know, I think if I get to 35 and it hurts to put pants on in the morning, I think I'll be like, 'Ah, this isn't that much fun anymore,' and I'll have a conversation with myself. But I'm feeling great right now.' He will not have much trouble keeping himself occupied once he leaves the game. In fact, Kittle will consider all avenues available to him, including a path into the world of professional wrestling if it comes open. 'I haven't daydreamed about it or anything like that, but I'm definitely aware that there are potential opportunities and doors that could be open.... I would love to do WWE. I think there's definitely opportunity within that world. Advertisement 'My only question mark with that is I so much love being a fan of WWE. I would only do WWE if I bought a ring and practiced my ass off for a long time so I wouldn't look like an idiot out there. I've been in a WWE ring like three times. I don't know what I'm doing out there. I have an understanding of how it works..." WWE stardom would be quite the retirement plan for Kittle and he is certainly not the only individual with a football background to get into that industry. Regardless of what the business' critics say, wrestling does take a toll on the body and Kittle would have to be physically fit for it. Kittle often makes appearances at notable WWE events, so the transition from fan to wrestler would be quite the site, even if for occasional contests. Whatever Kittle decides, his magnetic personality will continue to draw a large following whenever the time comes to hang up his cleats. For now, his focus rests on helping the Niners get their championship ambitions back on track. Aaron Rodgers Trashes Fans And Media As '(Expletive) Entitled, Ridiculous and Embarrassing'
Aaron Rodgers Trashes Fans And Media As '(Expletive) Entitled, Ridiculous and Embarrassing' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Twenty years in the NFL and a Cal education and an intellect he's fond of flaunting and quarterback Aaron Rodgers still doesn't get it. Advertisement Green Bay Packers fans enjoyed his four MVP's but they know the bit. New York Jets fans just saw him "lead'' them to a 5-12 season, so they learned. Now that Rodgers, at 41 off to Pittsburgh as the starting QB of the Steelers in 2025 before retirement, one more fan base is about to figure it out. Rodgers, who is said to be worth $200 million as a result of being in the NFL spotlight, just made a recent appearance of the Pat McAfee show on ESPN (which last time we checked pays him $1 million annually to appear) and he used the platform to blast those who seek information about his personal life and professional life. Advertisement Take it away, Aaron ... "The entitlement to information about my private life is so (expletive) ridiculous and embarrassing,"Rodgers said. "Like, hey, do what you've got to do, but try and leave me out of a conversation, sports world, for a month. Try and just leave me out, my personal life, my professional life, try not to talk about me ... for the next six weeks, five weeks, whatever it is. "Just see if you can do that." Our reply? No. We cannot do that. We can't do it because it is our job to chronicle All Thing Aaron, from the highs in Green Bay to when he tore his Achilles in the first quarter of his first game with the Jets to last season when he recorded an empty total of 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns to now, when he is a pivot point of the Steelers' playoff hopes. Advertisement Rodgers, like many celebrities, wants it both ways. The fame and the fortune, but only on their terms. "Privacy'' while dating actresses and supermodels and starring in a TV show (see "Enigma.'') A "don't look at me'' attitude while - in Aaron Rodgers' case - pitching loony life philosophies and conjuring up offensive conspiracy theories and considering a run for The White House. ou want to play QB in the NFL but you want to do it in hiding? Really? There are boundaries of respect, and if fans and reporters are hiding in the bushes of celebrities' backyards? Yeah, that's "entitlement, ridiculous and embarrassing.'' Advertisement And illegal. But short of that? The hypocritical truth, as Rodgers insists that when his NFL career is over, "You won't see me.''? ""When this is all done, it's Keyser Söze. You won't see me," referring to the secretive villain in "The Usual Suspects." "I won't be in the public. I don't want to live a public life. ... I'm not going to be in the public eye. When this is done, I'm done, and you won't see me. And I'm looking forward to that." In a very real sense, Aaron? We're kind of looking forward to that, too.
