Cops deployed at Elvish Yadav's residence after gunfire incident
Police said at least four armed personnel have been deployed round the clock in shifts at Yadav's house, while patrolling has been intensified in the area. 'The security personnel will continue to remain deployed at Yadav's house till further orders. We are investigating the incident from various angles, including extortion demanded by any gangster,' said Sandeep Kumar, public relations officer of Gurugram police.
Kumar said investigators were also examining the credentials of an Instagram post in which the Bhau gang claimed responsibility for the attack, alleging Yadav had promoted betting apps that financially ruined several families. 'We are investigating to ascertain who had posted it and from which location,' he added. Police said senior officials believe the post may have been an attempt to mislead the probe.
More than 10 teams of the Haryana police special task force (STF), crime branch and district police have been roped in to track the suspects. 'All the teams are carrying out raids at various locations across Haryana and neighbouring states including Rajasthan and Delhi,' said a senior officer, requesting anonymity. 'We are primarily investigating the case from the angle of extortion demand from Elvish, about which no information might have been shared yet to police,' the officer added.
Police said the case was also briefly examined for possible links with the July 14 attack on Yadav's friend and Haryanvi pop singer Rahul Yadav alias Fazilpuria, which stemmed from a ₹5-crore financial dispute with gangster Sunil Sardhaniya. 'However, nothing concrete has surfaced yet to link both cases,' the officer said.

Former village head, nephew held for womans murder in Jhansi; one absconding
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Jhansi (UP), Aug 20 (PTI) A former village head and his nephew were on Wednesday arrested for the murder of a woman, chopping her body parts and throwing them at various places, a senior official said. A third accused in the case is still absconding. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) B B G T S Murthy said body parts of an unidentified woman were recovered on August 13 from a well in Kishorpura village under Todi-Fatehpur police station limits. He said the head and legs of the body were missing, and added that multiple police teams were formed to crack the case. During investigations, police learned that Rachna Yadav (35) of Mahewa village had been missing for several days. Further probe revealed that former village head, Mahewa Sanjay Patel (41), had been in a relationship with her for the past two years. Yadav had allegedly extorted large sums of money from Patel and had recently been pressuring him to marry her, the police said. To get rid of her, Patel allegedly conspired with his nephew Sandeep Patel (25) and associate Pradeep alias Deepak Ahirwar, he said. The accused strangled Yadav in a car in the intervening night of August 9 and 10, dismembered her body with an axe and disposed of the parts at different locations — dumping the body and arms in a well at Kishorpura and throwing the head and legs into the nearby Raivan river. The police recovered body parts from both locations. Sanjay Patel and Sandeep Patel were arrested near Lakheri dam and sent to jail, while a reward of Rs 25,000 has been announced for information leading to the arrest of Pradeep Ahirwar, who remains on the run, the SSP said. Drug supplier and peddler nabbed; MDMA, marijuana seized
An interstate drug supplier and a local peddler were arrested by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), along with Domalguda police, on Wednesday. Narcotics and other items worth ₹7.3 lakh were seized from them. The accused were identified as Nikhil S., 19, a student from Bengaluru, and Raghavendra Rao, 27, a private employee from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Police seized 12.57 grams of MDMA, 305 grams of marijuana, a four-wheeler, three mobile phones, ₹1,080 cash and empty packing sachets. 'Raghavendra, originally from Machilipatnam, ran a medical agency that collapsed due to business losses. To recover the money, he turned to drug trade, initially selling marijuana procured from Sileru, Andhra Pradesh. He was arrested in 2023 with 7 kg marijuana and spent 11 months in jail. Since then, he has been booked in five more NDPS cases across Andhra Pradesh,' police said. Later, he allegedly expanded his MDMA business to fund his drug use and lifestyle. He sourced the substance from Nikhil, whom he met on Instagram. 'Nikhil, currently pursuing a BCA in Bengaluru, had developed a habit of using MDMA with friends and connected with Nigerian suppliers through the 'dead drop' method, with payments routed via UPI. He then supplied MDMA to local peddlers like Raghavendra at higher prices,' police said. The arrests were made following credible information. The accused were booked under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985. The public have been asked to report information on drug abuse to the H-NEW helpline at 8712661601.

Palakkad division launches initiative to ensure safe travel for women passengers
As part of the ongoing 'Meri Saheli' initiative, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Palakkad division has intensified its efforts to ensure safe and secure travel for female passengers, particularly those travelling alone on trains. Dedicated RPF teams have been deployed at five major stations in the division to identify solo women travellers, sensitise them about safety precautions, and share emergency contact details, including the Rail Madad helpline (139) and digital grievance redressal platforms such as Instagram and the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS). This apart, the Railways has leveraged modern technology to enhance the safety of women passengers. Passenger feedback is also being collected to further strengthen the programme, officials said. Security measures Madhukar Roat, Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager, said that the safety and security of passengers, particularly women travelling alone, is of paramount importance. 'With initiatives like Meri Saheli and strengthened security measures across stations and trains, we are committed to ensuring that every journey is safe, secure, and comfortable. These efforts are being continuously reinforced through the dedication of the RPF personnel and the cooperation of the passengers,' he said. A total of 64 women RPF personnel have been nominated for the mission, with an average of 11 officers attending designated trains each day. They interact with nearly 230 solo women passengers daily. In 2025 alone, the initiative has benefited 37,276 women passengers and has received widespread appreciation. Security has also been tightened across the division with additional measures. All major night trains are now escorted by mixed RPF teams equipped with body-worn cameras to ensure safety and accountability. Joint RPF-Government Railway Police (GRP) patrols during peak hours and intensified surprise checks in ladies' coaches have been carried out, leading to the apprehension of 971 offenders this year. Helpline The officials said that publicising the Rail Madad helpline contributed to timely interventions. In 2025, 38 complaints were lodged through the helpline and were resolved promptly, with offenders either detained or arrested. The RPF has appealed to passengers to cooperate with the security personnel, follow safety guidelines, and use official platforms to report concerns. The division reiterated its commitment to strengthening women's safety across the network and ensuring that every journey remains safe, secure, and comfortable.
