Bhubaneswar: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's one-day visit to Bhubaneswar on June 20, two high-level meetings were held here on Tuesday to review preparedness for the event. Senior ministers Suresh Pujari and Bibhuti Bhusan Jena inspected the Janata Maidan, the venue where Modi is scheduled to address a public meeting. 'We are prepared to welcome the Prime Minister. Apart from holding a roadshow and participate in a Triranga Yatra, the Prime Minister will also launch projects worth Rs 17,000 crore for Odisha,' Pujari told reporters. All arrangements were made for the attendance of over a lakh people at the gathering.
Pujari said various cultural troupes will perform on the roadside between the airport and Janata Maidan. Thereafter, he will attend a mega public event at Janata Maidan. During the event, Modi will also unveil Odisha's 'Vision Document' and also launch several development and welfare schemes of the State government, an official said. Investment Banker Claims Rs 70 Lakh CTC Is ‘New Middle Class', Internet Has Doubts
Last Updated: An investment banker says that earning Rs 70 lakh a year doesn't mean much comfort because of high taxes and costly living. A LinkedIn post by investment banker Sarthak Ahuja has gone viral for questioning the value of a Rs 70 lakh annual salary in metro cities. He highlights how the rising costs of living, steep rents, and aspirational spending leave little room for savings among urban professionals. In a detailed breakdown, he shows that what appears to be a high income barely covers basic expenses and lifestyle expectations. His post sparked a conversation about how challenging it is for working people in India to manage their finances. Sarthak Ahuja explains that someone earning Rs 70 lakh a year ends up paying nearly Rs 20 lakh in taxes, bringing their take-home income to around Rs 4.1 lakh per month. Out of this, a large portion is consumed by fixed expenses: Rs 1.7 lakh goes toward the EMI for a Rs 3 crore apartment, Rs 65,000 for a car loan, Rs 50,000 for international school fees, and Rs 15,000 for household help. After covering these costs, only about Rs 1 lakh remains. This leftover amount has to stretch across groceries, fuel, electricity, medical bills, dining out, shopping, and saving for an annual vacation, leaving very little room to breathe. Furthermore, Sarthak Ahuja highlights three main reasons why even high-income earners feel financially stressed in India's metro cities. First, inflation has surged significantly in cities like Mumbai, Gurugram, and Bengaluru over the past few years. Second, the cost of housing and vehicles has grown far faster than income levels. And third, social media has fuelled aspirational lifestyles, pushing people to spend more to keep up. 'By the end of the month, there's nothing left," he wrote on LinkedIn, describing these high earners as the new 'sub-middle class"—people who seem well-off on paper but still find it hard to manage their expenses. Sarthak Ahuja ends his post with a practical tip: avoid taking a home loan unless it's truly needed. He also shared a link to his website, where he offers advice on more affordable real estate choices. Within just a few hours, the LinkedIn post received over 500 likes and dozens of comments. It resonated with working professionals from different industries. Many opened up about their financial challenges, while a few agreed with Ahuja's perspective and shared similar experiences. But, amid all this, many were critical with his views. A comment read, 'Honestly, people like you are the reason behind mis-influencing and deliberately elevating the show-off culture among the middle-class folks of India, which strains them in the future." One even concluded that the post doesn't make any sense. A data scientist also remarked, 'A 70 lacs p.a. salaried person in India is definitely not middle class. Atleast understand the principles of purchasing power parity before making such declarations. There is a significantly larger India beyond tier 1 cities."

Amazon India to infuse over Rs 2,000 crore to boost pan-India operations
Amazon said the new investment builds on top of its investments in creating an operations network that helps the company deliver to all serviceable pin-codes across India Press Trust of India New Delhi Amazon will invest over Rs 2,000 crore in 2025 to scale up its all-India operations network, the e-commerce giant said on Thursday. Investments will support network expansion and upgrades to serve customers faster and more reliably, advance technology and innovation, and improve employee and associate well-being, Amazon said in a release. The investment announcement comes at a time when India's e-commerce market is booming, fuelled by broadband penetration, affordable smartphones, digital payments, increasing spends from affluent and middle-class households, as well as a mobile-first, digitally-charged younger population. Companies like Amazon and Walmart's Flipkart, as well as smaller online players have reshaped India's e-biz landscape over recent years investing billions of dollars into the booming e-commerce market in the country, which as per some estimates, is poised to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21 per cent and reach $325 billion in 2030. Announcing the Rs 2,000 crore-plus infusion, Amazon said the new investment builds on top of its investments in creating an operations network that helps the company deliver to all serviceable pin-codes across India. Amazon plans to leverage these investments to launch new sites and upgrade existing facilities across its fulfilment (intelligent warehouses), sortation and delivery network. According to the company, this investment will enhance processing capacity, improve fulfilment speed, and increase efficiency across the company's operations network. Doing so would help Amazon serve customers across India faster and more reliably, it explained. Buildings in Amazon's operations network, both existing and new, are designed with technology and efficient building systems to minimise energy usage. Amazon fulfilment centres are designed to make them safe and more accessible to people with disabilities, the company said, adding it focuses on improvements in cooling solutions, safety initiatives, and resting areas to ensure well-being and safety and provide an inclusive work environment. These strategic investments underscore Amazon's focus on strengthening its operational footprint in India, sellers, and enhancing customer convenience while driving growth for local economies, it said. Amazon further said it continues to enhance on-road safety by using the latest technologies to alert delivery associates and partners about unsafe speeds and encourage rest breaks. That includes investing in tools that measure route complexity and ensure equitable distribution of delivery routes, while allowing adequate time for each delivery. Amazon is streamlining driver onboarding processes and enhancing the driver app for better earnings transparency and other information. It is also simplifying delivery workflows by making the app more self-guided, improving navigation for unstructured addresses, and reducing cognitive load with photo and video-based item verification. The company said it continues to invest and expand initiatives aimed at improving the health and financial well-being of employees and associates across the operations network. This includes expanding programs like 'Ashray', which provides dedicated rest points for delivery associates, even to those outside its own delivery network, offering seating, water, charging stations, and washroom facilities; as well as 'Samridhi', which a financial well-being program focused on financial education and personal finance support for associates and drivers. Recently, Amazon launched a nationwide initiative to offer free health check-ups to over 80,000 delivery associates and partners through medical camps by the end of 2025. "These latest investments reflect our commitment to continually expand and upgrade our operations across our fulfilment, sortation and delivery network," said Abhinav Singh, VP - Operations, Amazon India and Australia. By strengthening infrastructure capabilities, enhancing processing capacity, and implementing advanced technology, Amazon is positioning itself to better serve customers throughout India while supporting employees, associates and partners who are the heart of it all, Singh added.
