When two big Bollywood films clash at the box office, it often sparks talk of rivalry, competition, and who'll win the numbers game. But Akshay Kumar is all about spreading good vibes even when his film Kannappa is locking horns with Maa, which stars Kajol and is produced by his longtime buddy Ajay Devgn.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Akshay shared a warm message. Tagging Ajay and Kajol, he wrote, 'Yaar Ajay hum dono ki picture aa rahi hai iss Friday. Tu apne fans ki good wishes #Kannappa ko bhej de aur main mere Mahadev ki blessing #Maa ko. Kya bolta hai? (sic)," he wrote.

Both Kannappa and Maa are hitting the big screens this Friday, and what's interesting is that they're both deeply rooted in mythology. While Kannappa traces the journey of a staunch atheist who transforms into one of Lord Shiva's most devoted followers, Maa also draws from mythological themes.
In Kannappa, Vishnu Manchu takes on the titular role, while Akshay Kumar makes a powerful appearance as Lord Shiva. The film also boasts a star-studded cast including Kajal Aggarwal, Prabhas, Mohanlal and more.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has approved the Telugu film Kannappa with a U/A 13+ certificate. Notably, it was the Revising Committee (RC) that passed the film after the Examining Committee (EC) raised objections, prompting its referral to the RC. The RC approved the film but requested several cuts.
They instructed the filmmakers to delete and alter certain visuals involving blood, dead bodies, decapitations, and close-ups of arrow piercings. A 4-second shot of a sunset silhouette was also removed. The cut list indicated the removal of visuals with yellow-red colour, lasting 21 seconds. A computer-generated text referring to tribal names was cut. One scene was modified to show water on a deity instead of a close-up of a leg on the deity.
Meanwhile, Maa brings a darker, more intense flavour to the screen. Touted as a mythological horror drama, the film follows a mother's terrifying yet fierce journey to save her daughter from sinister, otherworldly forces. Kajol leads the narrative, and from what we've seen so far, she's going full force.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the film with a UA 16+ rating, meaning it's suitable for viewers aged 16 and above. For younger audiences, parental guidance is advised. The film's runtime has also been confirmed. It clocks in at 2 hours and 15 minutes (135 minutes).

‘Kannappa' is not just a film, it's a spiritual experience

With just days to go for the grand release of Kannappa, actor Shiva Balaji, who plays Kumaradeva Sastry in the epic, opened up in an exclusive interview about his experience working on the mythological actioner. Here's what he had to share: Let's start at the beginning. How did you come onboard Kannappa? It was quite casual. During a lunch with Mohan Babu garu and Vishnu, the topic of casting came up. Mohan Babu garu directly asked Vishnu, 'Why doesn't Shiva have a role?' Initially, there wasn't one, but the next day, he offered me the role of his son—Kumaradeva Sastry. That's how it began. How did you prepare for the role? I mirrored Mohan Babu garu's character—stern, emotionally distant. I didn't rely on external references but focused on portraying a son shaped by that intensity. Is your role significant in the film? It's a strong supporting role. My character belongs to a lineage guarding the sacred Vayu Lingam. There are power struggles between Thinnadu, the Boya community, and our family. Even as the son, I wasn't allowed access to the Lingam. What did you think after watching the film? Kannappa is extraordinary. The second half is emotionally powerful and visually stunning. Prabhas' presence has created a buzz. How pivotal is his role? He appears for around 40 minutes. From his entry, he dominates the narrative. His character is impactful and well-executed. Any insight on Akshay Kumar's portrayal of Lord Shiva? Akshay Kumar looks divine. There were debates about who would play Shiva, and while Prabhas was initially considered, Akshay ended up fitting the part perfectly. You've been selective lately. Why? I've become choosy. If a role doesn't excite me, I pass. I want performance-driven characters now. You've dabbled in OTT too. Any plans to return? Yes, I plan to return with Recce 2. I'm open to strong, meaningful content. What's next? A thriller under Mohan Babu garu's production, directed by a Tamil filmmaker. Details will be announced soon. And working with Mohan Babu off-screen? He's warm and treats us like family. We grew close, especially during the MAA elections. Final thoughts on Kannappa? It's more than just cinema—it's a spiritual journey packed with powerful moments. I'm glad I didn't miss being a part of this film.
