'Babar Azam should never have been compared to Virat Kohli'
Former
Pakistan
batter
Ahmed Shehzad
has come out strongly against the trend of comparing players, particularly
Babar Azam
, with modern-day great
Virat Kohli
. Speaking in an interview, Shehzad said that such comparisons are not only unfair but also add unnecessary pressure on players, which is visible in Babar's current struggles.
'When everything was going well, you were running campaigns comparing players. Now that the performances are not coming, you are saying 'don't compare two players'. Why not? Virat
Kohli
's comparison cannot be made with anyone in the world. He is a legend of this generation, a role model. You cannot compare him even with
MS Dhoni
. Dhoni may have been a great captain, but as a batter, cricketer, and athlete, Kohli stands alone. No one should be compared with anyone because it's unfair and it adds extra pressure, which we are now seeing on Babar Azam,' Shehzad said.

Babar's dip in form has been a talking point for months. He has now gone 72 consecutive international innings without scoring a century, with his last hundred coming against Nepal. Since 2023, no other cricketer has endured a longer drought without a century.
Adding to that, since 2024, Babar and Mohammad Rizwan are the only two batters from full-member nations with a strike rate below 80.
The struggles have coincided with a change in leadership. Babar is no longer Pakistan's captain across formats, having stepped down earlier this year following criticism over results and his own performances. The recent ODI series against West Indies only intensified the scrutiny, as Pakistan suffered a 202-run loss to concede their first bilateral ODI series to the Caribbean side in 34 years.
Poll
Should players be compared to legends like Virat Kohli?
Yes, it motivates them
No, it adds unnecessary pressure
Shehzad's remarks highlight the pressure top players face when placed on the same pedestal as legends, and why the weight of public comparisons can often prove damaging to form and confidence.

Rookie Nohl Williams' goal-line heroics boost Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl defense
Rookie Nohl Williams' goal-line heroics are reshaping the Chiefs' Super Bowl defense (Image credits: IG/X) The ball arced toward the corner of the end zone, a perfect red-zone fade. The receiver rose to meet it — then rookie Nohl Williams rose higher, chest to chest, hands slicing through the air. In one motion, he ripped the football free and sent the Kansas City Chiefs sideline buzzing. It was the kind of snap that transforms a preseason unknown into a roster lock. Injuries create urgent opportunity for defensive shake-up Kansas City's secondary isn't at full strength. Jaylen Watson remains in concussion protocol, and Kristian Fulton is still working back to game speed. In a defense built for another deep playoff run, those gaps can't linger. Williams is filling them with urgency, stepping into meaningful reps before the season even begins. More than just a stopgap, his blend of coverage instinct and special-teams toughness gives Steve Spagnuolo a rare two-phase asset. In a long campaign where depth wins games, that versatility can't be ignored. Rising fast — From depth insurance to defensive asset Drafted in the third round, Williams entered camp as depth insurance. He's played like anything but. Against Arizona, he posted two solo tackles, a tackle for loss, a pass breakup, and nine special-teams snaps — including a highlight hit as a gunner. Pro Football Focus numbers back it up: 71.8 in coverage, 73.1 in run defense, 73.9 overall. Those are veteran-caliber grades from a rookie still adjusting to Spagnuolo's complex scheme. 'I just love the fact that the kid takes coaching,' defensive backs coach Dave Merritt said this week. High-stakes battle for a spot in the cornerback rotation If Williams continues this trajectory, someone in the cornerback rotation will lose snaps. He could be CB3 by midseason — and with persistent injuries, even a starter. That's not the depth chart Kansas City expected in August, but it's the reality his performance is demanding. In a league where championship contenders are often decided by defensive depth, having a rookie who can step in without a performance dip could be the silent advantage that decides a playoff game.
