MLC Kavitha slams Revanth Reddy over 'inaction' on BC Bill
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 18 (ANI): Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has made a strong warning to the state government, stating that if 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) is not implemented in the upcoming local body elections, hundreds of nominations will be filed in every village across the state as a form of protest, a release said.
Speaking to the media at her residence, on Wednesday, MLC Kavitha criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for failing to raise the BC reservation bill issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, despite having visited Delhi numerous times. She sarcastically remarked that Revanth could earn a Guinness World Record for the most visits to Delhi without achieving any results. MLC Kavitha alleged that the Chief Minister was not genuinely committed to securing approval for the BC Bill, as per release.
Kavitha also ridiculed the BJP's plan to organize a 'Telangana Vikasit Yatra' in support of the BC Bill. She stated that unless the BJP clearly supports the BC Bill, people will not trust their political moves, regardless of how many rallies they organize, as per the release.
Highlighting the intensifying agitation, Kavitha announced a massive 'Rail Roko' protest on July 17 demanding BC reservations. She urged citizens to reschedule any travel plans between July 16 and 18. She noted that various caste-based organizations, including SC and ST groups, are extending support to the Telangana Jagruthi movement.
Earlier in March, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking an appointment to discuss two bills passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly that proposed 42 per cent reservation for backwards classes in education, jobs, and local bodies.
He also suggested a meeting with leaders from various political parties in Telangana, including Congress, BRS, BJP, AIMIM, and CPI, to seek the central government's support for these bills. (ANI)

There are scores of castes within the Pasmandas who have left behind in the road to social justice and development. They need to be supported," he said. Several Muslim communities get reservations in the Central OBC and several state OBC lists. According to a 2005 National Sample Survey Organisation survey, Muslim OBCs constitute around 41% of the total Muslim population. Muslim groups, however, claim the percentage to be much higher. In UP, communities like Nai (barber), Qureshi, Ansaris (weavers/Julaha) and Fakir get OBC reservations. Kolhapur: Sharad Pawar will shortly announce changes in the state party unit's leadership, said Jayant Patil, the current state unit chief of NCP (SP) on Wednesday. During his address in Sangli, Patil mentioned submitting his resignation at the party's foundation day celebration, having served as state president for seven years, suggesting a leadership transition. Calcutta HC MGNREGA order: Govt to seek arrears, BJP says ‘won't change anything'
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that her government will seek arrears from the Centre in the wake of the Calcutta High Court's order for restart of the MGNREGA, the 100-day rural job guarantee scheme, in the state after a gap of three years. Rajya Sabha MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, who represented the state government in the High Court, told The Indian Express that the logical next step would be to pay the arrears. 'We have been fighting the case for the last two years, and the Chief Justice came to the finding that it is the statutory obligation of both the Centre and the state government to ensure the 100-day work. And the court has passed an order to that extent, though belatedly. The arrears have to be paid. Under the law, you have to give the job or provide unemployment allowances. They have to pay the arrears to the job seekers who come under the scheme, and secondly, if the state government could justify that some arrears are there, then that will be paid,' the senior counsel said. The BJP, however, said the restart of the MGNREGA scheme in the state would not 'solve the problems'. 'We welcome the court order, but it will not solve the problem under any circumstances. The disbursement of the funds is in the hands of the Centre, and the Centre has the authority to discontinue projects if there are irregularities or violations of the basic norms. The state government has accepted that there have been irregularities. Neither the Centre, nor the state BJP wanted this project to stop, but due to TMC's institutional corruption and non-cooperation, this situation emerged,' BJP MP Shamik Bhattacharya told The Indian Express.
