The Vande Bharat train connecting Belagavi and Bengaluru that was flagged off on Sunday is the fastest train on the route and reduces the travel time by 80 minutes, officials said.
It was one of the three trains launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bengaluru.
The train would link Belagavi, known for its top medical and engineering colleges, with state capital Bengaluru, often referred to as the Silicon Valley of India. The commercial run of the train will start from Monday (August 11) and it will run on six days except Wednesday, a press note from South Western Railway Zone (SWR) said. Officials said the train has an 8-coach chair car configuration with a seating capacity of 530.
"The KSR Bengaluru - Belagavi Vande Bharat Express, the fastest train on this route, covers 611 km in just 8.5 hours, saving about 1 hour 20 minutes compared to other trains," the press note said. "The scenic journey, passing through the rich sugarcane belt from Belagavi to Bengaluru, fosters economic growth and connects diverse communities across the region," it said. They said the advanced state-of-the-art suspension system ensures a smooth and safe journey and enhanced riding comfort for passengers. The train travels through Dharwad, known for its prestigious educational institutions; Hubballi, a major commercial and industrial centre; Haveri, a growing agricultural hub; Davangere, renowned for its textile and agricultural contributions and Tumakuru, an emerging industrial and educational centre. "These stops enhance connectivity for students, professionals, farmers, and traders, providing faster access to Bengaluru's opportunities," the SWR said. "The Belagavi-KSR Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express exemplifies India's strides in modern rail travel, offering a faster, more comfortable journey while strengthening connectivity between key economic and cultural hubs in Karnataka," it added. This is the 11th Vande Bharat train originating from Karnataka to various destinations in the country. According to the Railway Ministry, with the introduction of the three trains, there are 75 Vande Bharat trains in the country that make 150 trips daily across 24 states.
Besides, the Belagavi-Bengaluru Vande Bharat, the prime minister also launched Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Amritsar and Ajni (Nagpur)-Pune Vande Bharat services virtually.

It will, however, continue to manage spent uranium reprocessing and plutonium waste handling, in line with international norms. To meet rising demand for nuclear fuel amid this expansion, the government is drafting a regulatory framework that would allow private Indian firms to participate in mining, importing, and processing uranium. The policy is expected to be announced within the current fiscal year, reported Reuters. In addition, private companies may be permitted to supply critical control system equipment for nuclear power plants, sources said. Globally, countries such as Canada, South Africa, and the United States already allow private firms to mine and process uranium. Domestic supply not enough According to government data, India has an estimated 76,000 tonnes of uranium — enough to power 10,000 megawatts of nuclear energy for 30 years. However, sources cautioned that domestic reserves would cover only about 25% of the fuel needed to support the country's planned nuclear expansion. The remaining demand would require imports, along with a significant boost to uranium processing capacity. In its February 1 budget announcement, the government revealed its intention to open up the nuclear sector, though it did not provide specifics. Still, experts warn that implementing the policy may face hurdles, as revising existing legislation could prove legally and politically complex. 'It's a major and bold initiative by the Indian Government which is critical for achieving the target,' Reuters quoted Charudatta Palekar, independent power sector consultant, as saying. 'The challenge will be to define quickly the rules of engagement with private sector,' Palekar added. New Delhi will have to change five laws, including the ones regulating mining and electricity sectors and India's foreign direct investment policy to enable private participation in many identified activities, the sources said. Ukhand Cabinet approves 10% reservation for former Agniveers in uniformed posts
Agency: PTI Dehradun, Aug 13 (PTI) The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Wednesday approved 10 per cent horizontal reservation for direct recruitment in government services to former Agniveers after their return from the army. The Cabinet gave its approval in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The reservation pertains to uniformed posts of Group 'C' in services under the state government, an official source said. Former Agniveers will be exempted from the physical efficiency test in the direct recruitment, the source said. Apart from this, they will also be given relaxation in the maximum age limit. Uttarakhand Cabinet approves amendments to anti-conversion law
Dehradun, Aug 13 (PTI) The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Wednesday approved amendments to the anti-conversion law to make it harsher, with stringent provisions like punishment up to life imprisonment and heavy fines being added to the new bill. The Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill-2025 was approved in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, official sources said. According to the bill, apart from strict punishment for illegal religious conversion, provisions such as ban on propaganda through digital medium and protection of victims have been added, they said. The definition of inducement has been expanded in the bill to include gifts, cash/goods benefits, employment, free education, promise of marriage, hurting religious faith or glorifying another religion, categorising all of them as crime. It makes punishable the acts like promoting or inciting conversion through social media, messaging app or any online medium. There is a provision in the bill for three to 10 years imprisonment for general violation, five to 14 years in cases related to sensitive class and 20 years to life imprisonment in serious cases and heavy fines. The proposed bill also makes a provision for strict punishment for marriage by creating fake identity or hiding religion besides making a provision for protection, rehabilitation, medical, travel and maintenance expenses of the victims of illegal conversions. According to the state government, the proposed legislation will protect the religious rights of the citizens, prohibit conversion by fraud, inducement or pressure and maintain social harmony, the sources said.
