Andhra Pradesh: Vizag And Vijayawada Get Green Signal For Mega Rail Projects, Know More
The Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Thursday approved investment proposals worth Rs 80,000 crore, including inviting tenders for the Vizag metro and approving the Vijayawada metro, said Information and Public Relations Minister K Parthasarathy.
The minister said these approvals are expected to generate 1.5 lakh jobs, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for investors.
'Investment proposals worth nearly Rs 80,000 crore were approved. Up to 1.5 lakh jobs are expected from these investments," said Parthasarathy, addressing a press conference at the secretariat.
The cabinet approved the Andhra Pradesh Electronic Components Manufacturing Policy 4.O, aimed at developing electronic industries in the state, he said.
It also cleared the allocation of 4.45 acres of land to Phenom People Pvt Ltd in Vizag for an investment of Rs 200 crore, expected to generate 2,500 jobs.
Further, Parthasarathy said the cabinet approved 3.6 acres of land for Sify Infinity Spaces at Madhurawada IT Hill and another 50 acres at Paradesipalem in Vizag at Rs 50 lakh per acre, facilitating a Rs 16,466 crore investment to establish the port city as a data hub.
The cabinet also approved the allocation of 30 acres in Madhurawada to Sattva Developers Pvt Ltd at Rs 1.5 crore per acre for a proposed investment of Rs 15,000 crore, and 2.5 acres to ANSR Global Corporation Pvt Ltd at Madhurawada for an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.
It approved a proposal to invite tenders for up to 40 per cent of phase I works of the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project, to be executed under a 50:50 government joint venture, at an estimated cost of Rs 11,498 crore, added the minister.
Similarly, it granted in-principle approval for phase I of the Vijayawada Metro Rail Project with two corridors, estimated at Rs 10,118 crore. The project will also follow a 50:50 equity funding model, with the tendering process and Notice to Proceed (NTP) subject to approval from the ministry of housing and urban affairs.
The cabinet ratified key activities under the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation's (APMDC) 2025-26 second tranche bond issuance, including acceptance of a Rs 5,526 crore subscription amount.
Among other decisions, it approved the allocation of an 800 MW pumped storage power project at Owk in Nandyal district to RVR Projects Pvt Ltd, the minister said.
The cabinet also approved the Green Hydrogen Valley Declaration recently announced in Amaravati.
It accepted the report submitted by Justice (Retd) M Satyanarayana Murthy on the stampede that occurred at Padmavathi Park in Bairagipatteda, Tirupati, on January 8, 2025.
Additionally, it cleared incentives for the development of luxury hotels by ITC Hotels Ltd and Lansum Leisures & Entertainment LLP in Vizag, among other proposals.

Ganapati makhar makers struggle to meet last-minute demand from homes, housing societies this year
1 2 Pune: The delayed approval for PoP Ganesh idols has not only sparked last-minute demand for such idols but also rushed decorators, who did not prepare decoration setups in advance, anticipating less demand this year. Based on the size of idols, makhars and backdrops are specially customised for homes and housing societies. "Vendors are busy creating makhars for large Ganapati idols. We found a vendor to create a small 3D temple for our home idol after much difficulty. They are saying deliveries might be delayed to around Aug 25," said Jyotsana Nadkarni, a resident of Kothrud. "We contacted our decorator a day after we placed an order for our Ganesh idol. This year, the idols are about 10-15% more expensive than last year owing to the last-minute demand," said Harsha Kamble, a resident of Hadapsar. Customers are demanding eco-friendly makhars and backdrops, said vendors. "We had hardly any orders at the beginning of June, so we just prepared a few basic makhars. Bookings started pouring in at the end of June, and now we are facing high raw material and labour costs. "We used to pay labour charges of about Rs 700-800 a day until last year. This year, because there is so much demand, we are paying labour charges of Rs 1,200 per day. We are using foam boards and sun boards to create 2D and 3D makhars," he said. Demand for decorations has also gone up by about 10-15% over last year. Shyam Kandalkar, owner, Omkar Arts, Chinchwad, said LED models of Ganapati asans are trending this year. "Customers who usually bring home idols of the same size now prefer to buy reusable décor. The demand is definitely higher by 10-15% over last year. We are using a lot of hitlon sheets in our décor," he said. Vendors also said PoP idols are lighter than shadu clay idols, so customers are confused about the decorative stands that they should purchase. Delay in RUB work causes traffic bottlenecks in city
1 2 Mangaluru: The long delay in opening the twin railway underbridges (RUB) at Mahakalipadpu in the city is causing severe traffic snarls on the Pumpwell bypass road, the main entry point to Mangaluru city. The Palakkad division of the Southern Railway has already completed the pushing of all the four concrete boxes. However, the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) could not complete the concrete roads on either side of the RUBs. The MSCL authorities say that the work can be started only if the Railways complete the laying of the pipeline to clear the water at the site. A series of protests were held seeking the authorities to complete the RUB work at Mahakalipadpu ever since the road from Jeppu to Jappinamogaru was closed to facilitate the RUB work. The Rs 50 crore 4-lane RUB project was initiated on March 29, 2021, by the then MP of Dakshina Kannada Nalin Kumar Kateel and Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath. Currently, all vehicles from Kerala, Ullal, Konaje, Mudipu, and other places enter Mangaluru city via Pumpwell bypass road, leading to traffic snarls during peak hours. Once the RUB at Mahakalipadpu is commissioned, the traffic density on the Pumpwell bypass stretch will reduce considerably. DYFI Dakshina Kannada district secretary Santhosh Bajal said that a lack of willpower among elected representatives is a major hindrance that leads to delays in development works. He said an action committee formed to demand completion of the RUB at Mahakalipadpu has held several protests and submitted memorandums to the authorities. "We will hold a dharna in front of the office of MSCL or Railways if the work gets delayed further," he added. Tulunada Rakshana Vedike founder president Yogish Shetty Jeppu, who has been at the forefront of protests for the cause, called upon the public to, "Join hands and seek authorities concerned to expedite the work." MSCL general manager (technical) Arun Prabha KS said that water accumulates at the RUB site, making it difficult to take up the development of the road. "Railways will have to lay a 300m pipeline, but they have laid only about 120m so far. We have been working at the site and will expedite the work once the pipeline laying work is completed," he added.
