Harish calls for all-party meet to discuss Banakacharla proj
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, he attacked both the Telangana government and the Centre, accusing them of jointly undermining the irrigation interests of Telangana. Rao expressed grave concern over what he described as a 'well-orchestrated conspiracy' to divert the Godavari river water to AP through the controversial Banakacharla project.
Rao said, 'Telangana's hard-earned right of water is once again under threat, this time due to the inaction and indifference of the Congress in Telangana.' He alleged that AP was aggressively pushing forward with the Banakacharla project without securing any mandatory approvals, neither from the Apex Council, nor from the Central Water Commission, nor from environmental bodies. No consent has been taken from Telangana or other riparian States, a violation of the AP Reorganisation Act.
'This is nothing short of bulldozing established norms,' Rao said, adding that Central agencies appear to be complicit by their silence and support. He highlighted the 'hypocrisy' of AP leaders, pointing out that CM N Chandrababu Naidu was writing multiple letters to stop Telangana's own projects, including Kaleshwaram, Palamuru-Rangareddy and Bhakta Ramadasu, citing environmental and legal concerns. Naidu even moved the National Green Tribunal and raised objections with the Centre. Yet, today, the same leaders were executing a completely new Godavari project without any scrutiny.
Alleging bias by the Centre, Rao said it was maintaining double standards. He pointed out that while Polavaram was granted national project status and received over Rs 80,000 crore in Central funding, Telangana's major irrigation projects like Kaleshwaram and Sitarama have been denied similar recognition. Now, the Centre is reportedly offering to fund 50 per cent of Banakacharla through grants, while allowing AP to raise the remaining via FRBM-limit exemptions, a privilege never extended to Telangana. He questioned how the Centre could offer financial assistance to a project that has zero legal approvals. 'Why is the BJP treating Telangana like a stepchild?' Is there no value for efforts Telangana made to build sustainable irrigation?' he asked.
Rao called for a special Assembly session to pass a unanimous resolution opposing the project, and approaching the Supreme Court for a stay.

Rajya Sabha showdown: Congress walks out, HM Shah says ‘they are afraid to hear the truth on terror'
New Delhi: In a heated session of the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, the Congress party and other INDIA bloc members staged a dramatic walkout, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's presence in the House to respond to questions related to Operation Sindoor after the discussion. The protest unfolded just as Union Home Minister Amit Shah began replying to the Opposition's concerns. Despite HM Shah's assurance that he would address every question raised, Opposition MPs shouted slogans such as 'PM ko bulao (Call the Prime Minister)', stalling the session and refusing to engage in the Minister's detailed response. "You have to deal with me first. Why do you want to call the PM? You will have more difficulty," HM Shah responded, directly taking on the protesting MPs. Emphasising that Prime Minister Modi was 'very much in office", HM Shah questioned the insistence on his presence: 'If I can respond and clarify, then why insist on hearing from him?' As tensions escalated, Leader of Opposition in the Upper House Mallikarjun Kharge stood up, reiterating the demand. 'The questions pertain to PM Modi. I'm not saying you (Shah) are not capable of answering. But if PM Modi, being in Delhi, does not come here, this is disrespect of the Rajya Sabha,' Kharge said before walking out, followed by all Opposition MPs. However, HM Amit Shah continued his address, calling out what he termed the Opposition's double standards and lack of political will to discuss the facts. He pointed out that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) had already decided that the government would respond to the Operation Sindoor debate and left it to the government to decide who would speak. 'It was decided that the discussion will happen for as long as the Opposition wanted, but the response would be given as per the government's decision. You agreed to the debate, now you walk out because you don't want to hear the truth,' HM Shah said. In a sharp attack on the Congress party, Shah alleged that the walkout was not about parliamentary protocol, but a strategy to avoid being held accountable for years of 'appeasement politics' that, according to him, weakened India's war on terror. Shah reiterated what he had said in the Lok Sabha a day earlier — that Congress-led governments had diluted anti-terror laws for vote-bank politics, jeopardising national security in the process. 'This is the same party that sought proof of surgical strikes and airstrikes. And now, they are unwilling to even sit through a discussion on Operation Sindoor, which was a powerful response to terrorism,' HM Shah said. Despite the walkout, the Union Home Minister continued detailing the operational success and strategic clarity behind Operation Sindoor, underscoring India's resolve to neutralise terror at its roots — even if it meant taking the battle across the border.

TPCC chief to lead Janahita Padayatra from today
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud will lead the Janahita Padayatra starting today (Thursday). AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan will participate in the yatra as the chief guest. The first phase of the padayatra will take place from July 31 to August 4, covering various districts in the State, including Ranga Reddy and Adilabad. Following this, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, TPCC chief, along with ministers, Congress MPs, MLAs, and MLCs, will hold protests in Delhi from August 5 to 7, demanding immediate Central approval for 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BC) communities. During their protest, Congress leaders will also push for an adjournment motion to discuss BC issues in Parliament. A special train will transport a large number of Congress and BC cadres from Telangana to Delhi, where they will participate in a three-day movement activity. The TPCC has devised a strategy to bring 50 prominent BC activists from each district to Delhi to participate in the movement.
