The Arizona Cardinals made Trey McBride the highest-paid tight end in the NFL this offseason, inking him to a four-year extension worth $76 million. That record didn't last long, as the San Francisco 49ers signed tight end George Kittle to a four-year extension worth $76.4 million.
His time at the top was only about three weeks.
McBride isn't upset.
"I think it was great that I had the title at one point, and that was obviously a huge milestone for me be the highest paid at my position at the time," he said on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM last week. "And I thought that was really cool."
But he is happy about Kittle and actually hopes that his deal gets passed up by other guys.
"George is much deserving of that, and I'm very excited for him. Obviously, I would love for someone to jump him and everyone just keep jumping each other. The tight ends making a ton of money, that's what I'm pulling for."
Another tight end likely to surpass both McBride and Kittle is Brock Bowers of the Las Vegas Raiders, but he still isn't eligible for an extension until after the 2026 season. Bowers had 112 receptions as a rookie in 2024.
Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely of the Baltimore Ravens both enter the final year of their deals.
If they get contracts worth more than Kittle's or McBride's, McBride won't be upset. He got his deal.
With that money, McBride made two splurges. He joined a country club and bought a Rolex. The rest is trying to preserve.
McBride will be a player to watch for the Cardinals in 2025. Will he be able to match or improve on his 2024 season?

Ramsey did see a dip in his play last season when he missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2016. He had 60 tackles, a sack, two interceptions and 11 passes defended. Advertisement Ramsey had been taken fifth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Jaguars and played there until he was traded to the Rams in the middle of the 2019 season. He played in Los Angeles until he was traded to Miami in the 2023 offseason.

HOUSTON, Texas (WKBN) – NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is expected to sign a free agent deal with the Houston Texans, if all goes well with his physical on Monday. Chubb, who suffered a season-ending broken foot in Sunday's loss to Kansas City, appeared in eight games last season. He rushed for 332 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. The four-time Pro Bowler was originally selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. In seven seasons in the NFL, Chubb has piled up 6,843 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns.
