In Episode 6 of Hulu's Good American Family, inspired by the true story of Natalia Grace, viewers are introduced to Indiana couple Cynthia and Antwon Mans, portrayed by Christina Hendricks and Jerod Haynes. They encounter Natalia, a Ukrainian orphan with a rare form of dwarfism, and develop a relationship that lasts for a decade, though it eventually takes a troubling turn.
At this point in the miniseries, Natalia is still struggling to live on her own after her adoptive parents, Michael and Kristine Barnett, left her behind as they prepare to move to Canada with their three biological sons. The Barnetts had legally changed Natalia's age to 22 so she'd be considered an adult (a DNA test later confirmed she was still a child).
While living alone in Indiana, Natalia crossed paths with Cynthia and Antwon Mans, who would go on to adopt her in 2023. In Good American Family, questions linger about Cynthia's true motives and whether her intentions with Natalia are genuine.
'It's very clever of them,' Hendricks told TV Insider about the subtle hints of doubt woven into the episode. '[She]
As you watch the episode, here's what to know about the Mans family's history with Natalia Grace and whether they still have a relationship with her today.
Antwon Mans, Natalia Grace Mans, and Cynthia Mans.
Antwon and Cynthia Mans, a couple who once lived in Indiana and now reside in Tennessee, became Natalia's guardians for over a decade, according to TODAY.com. Antwon is a pastor who established a small church, and they have 10 children.
Natalia met the Mans family after moving into her second apartment in Lafayette, Indiana. One day, while hobbling down the street, she paused a few houses down to take a rest. A nearby homeowner noticed her and came outside to chat with her. That woman eventually introduced Natalia to her friend, Cynthia.
A few days later, Natalia moved in with Cynthia, her husband Antwon, and their kids. Cynthia later testified during Michael trial—where he faced multiple neglect charges alongside his ex-wife Kristine—that they charged Natalia $250 a month in rent and taught her how to read, write, and do math.
At that time, Natalia admitted that she did not know how to count money, did not understand how to use her food stamp card, and had no idea that she was receiving Social Security disability benefits.
In 2016, the Manses filed a petition in court seeking guardianship of Grace. However, Michael objected because Natalia's birth year had been legally changed from 2003 to 1989, according to documents from the Indiana Court of Appeals obtained by TODAY.com. Ultimately, the Manses were unsuccessful in their attempt to have the original age change order overturned.

The Mans family officially adopted Natalia in 2023. In the second season of Investigation Discovery's docuseries, The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks, their relationship is portrayed positively. Antwon supported Natalia when she received her DNA results, which confirmed that she was indeed a child while living with the Barnetts. He was also present when Natalia confronted Michael for the first time.
The docuseries shows one troubling moment involving a past incident between Natalia and a member of the Mans family. Genesis Mans, one of the children in the household, recalled in an interview that Natalia bit her when she was a baby. The Mans family acknowledged that Natalia faced some challenges when she first moved in but added that she has since apologized for her behavior.
'Natalia been with us all these years, and let me tell you, we have corrected Natalia, and she's never came at us with the knife or put thumbtacks up on our stairs, or tried to hurt our children,' Cynthia said in the series, referencing the allegations against Natalia.
Unfortunately, tensions started to rise between Grace, Cynthia, and Antwon after they found her communicating online with her boyfriend in the U.K. By the end of Season 2 of Natalia Speaks, a black screen appears with text that reads, 'Two weeks ago, and six months after Natalia's adoption, the producers got a shocking phone call.'
Then, as the camera slowly zooms in on Natalia sitting on a porch, Antwon and Cynthia's voices play over again. 'Something ain't right with Natalia,' he says. 'This girl is tweakin'. I feel like she's the enemy in the house. And she said to us, we have held her hostage. Made us look like we're the enemy.'
'Natalia is stabbing her family in the back over a complete lie,' Cynthia adds.
'She's done other things, too,' Antwon continues.

According to People, in the docuseries, several neighbors and friends claim they witnessed the Mans physically abusing Natalia. They alleged that she was whipped with a belt, slapped in the face, locked in a room, and assaulted.
Natalia declined to confirm or deny those allegations to People. She also refused to comment on the abuse in the documentaries, telling the producers, 'I don't want to talk about that.' When a producer asked her if she was ever hit, she responded, 'Not anything crazy. Maybe a little pop on the butt or something.'
After a decade of living with the Mans, Natalia began planning her escape. With the help of her boyfriend, she reached out to Nicole DePaul, an old friend who, along with her husband Vince, had tried to adopt Natalia in 2009 but was turned down.
In late 2023, Nicole and her daughter Mackenzie, 19, drove from upstate New York and secretly picked up Natalia outside a church in Nashville. Natalia told People she was nervous about leaving the Mans but knew it was the right decision for her.
"The last thing I told my sisters were, 'You guys go ahead to the church sanctuary and I love you,' Natalia said. "And then I saw the [DePauls] pull up and Mack jumped out and I'm like, 'Oh, my gosh, she's actually here.' My heart started pounding. I was terrified. I was completely terrified," she says.
Cynthia Mans and her family have stepped out of the public eye following their fallout with Natalia Grace. Their public Instagram account, @hemansfamily11, has 109 posts and 16.8K followers but hasn't been updated since November 23, 2023.
When the third installment of the docuseries aired, Natalia was still in contact with the Mans family, as Cynthia remained the recipient of her disability funds. However, Nicole told People that things were complicated in the beginning.
"At first it was bumpy because the Mans were still involved. They were calling Natalia constantly and trying to wheel her back in," Nicole said. 'It was just this constant thing where we were walking a fine line of not doing too much. See, she just came from this house that basically was ruled by a dictator, so I didn't want to tell her what to do.'
In one episode of Season 3, Nicole is heard arguing with Cynthia Mans over the phone. 'That is not your daughter, that is mine!' Mans says in the recorded call. She also tells DePaul to 'shut up' and accuses her of living a 'sinful life," according to TODAY.
'Going forward, Cynthia, you listen and respect her as an adult,' DePaul responded.

Rebel Wilson Says Her Friend Circle Has Shrunk Since Becoming a Mom ... And She's OK With That

There's no handbook to help you navigate the joys and challenges of parenting when you welcome your first child. Just ask Rebel Wilson. "No one ever really teaches you that much about motherhood and how difficult it is. And I guess you want to hear from other moms," the actor tells The 'Bride Hard' star is the first to admit that she 'wasn't really in the mom world' before she and her wife Ramona Agruma welcomed daughter Royce in November 2022, so she had a lot to learn from other moms when she became one herself. 'I think mom friendships are super important because it's so hard being a mom. The more you can share and learn from each other, I think the better it is for everybody," Wilson says in a phone interview while promoting her partnership with Splash Refresher, a line of zero-calorie, zero-sugar sparkling and still flavored waters. The 45-year-old stars in the brand's "Besties" campaign with her real life BFF Anna Kendrick. In honor of Best Friends Day, Splash Refresher has released a national survey about the importance of friendship to our well-being, particularly for moms. It's a topic that resonates with Wilson, who has discovered how therapeutic mom friendships can be. "Recently on a movie, my dialect coach had a daughter a similar age (to Royce) and then we did fun mom things like take our kids to the park and meet at the café, and talk about things to do with our children," she says. Over the last few years, Wilson has come to rely on her mom friends as a sounding board when she's feeling uncertain about how to handle certain parenting scenarios. One of her besties, who is a mother of three and a lawyer, has taught her how to navigate guilt as a working mom. '(She said), 'Even though you're not spending as much time with your child, at least your child sees you working hard for the family and that's a positive role model,'' she explains. Wilson also calls on her mom friends for a sanity check once in a while, like the time she called this same friend to ask if she ever gets bored playing with her child. 'She was like, 'Yeah, sometimes like after an hour, I'm done and I want to go back and be a high-powered lawyer in Manhattan,'" Wilson recalls. This hit home for the actor, who notes that she sometimes feels distracted as she transitions from her professional to personal life. "It was kind of interesting to share those experiences with her of being a working mom who obviously sometimes feels guilty because I have to go to work and then sometimes feels like I can't be as present for my child because I'm thinking about work and I can't just sit and face paint for hours," she says. With Royce now attending nursery school, the actor is hopeful that she will meet more mom friends. "You feel less alone if you're talking about stuff," she notes. With a busy career and a beautiful family at home, Wilson has a lot to juggle, and she acknowedges that her friendships have changed a bit after getting married and welcoming a child. 'My circle has become a lot smaller, and not like I deliberately intended it to be. I don't have a lot of social life because I'm either at work or my spare time is to my wife and baby,' she says. "So I feel like I've got, I don't know, three or four really close friends." Although she doesn't see her friends every weekend, Wilson does aim to have "one really meaningful chat once a month" with them. 'It's very valuable because they've known me for a long time. They're very close friendships," she says. Having friends that understand where she is at this stage of her life is rewarding for Wilson, who says she's 'a bit more boring now that I'm married and a mom.' Still, quiet days at home with her family are pretty blissful for Wilson, who can't help but gush about how much of an "amazing mother" Agruma is. 'We just got some chickens and then the chickens laid some eggs. So she's making from scratch a meal for our daughter from fresh vegetables that she's growing in the garden and the fresh eggs we've got from the chickens,' she says. Wilson applauds her wife's abundant patience and supportive, loyal nature, saying they "always have each other's backs." "She just goes above and beyond and she's really suited to being a mother," she says. This article was originally published on

"Call Her Daddy" host Alex Cooper alleges sexual harassment by Boston University soccer coach

Before she amassed tens of millions of followers and one of the most popular podcasts in the world, Alex Cooper, the host of "Call Her Daddy," played soccer at Boston University. In her new documentary, "Call Her Alex," dropping Tuesday on Hulu, Cooper opened up for the first time about years' worth of alleged sexual harassment from her soccer coach, Nancy Feldman. Allegations in new documentary The trailer for the documentary alludes to a bombshell, life altering confession during a scene filmed on Boston University's soccer field. But as reported in The Hollywood Reporter, Cooper describes her coach becoming "fixated" with her and her body. Cooper alleges Feldman would leverage field time in exchange for information about her sex life. According to Boston University, Feldman retired in 2022. At the film's premiere in New York City over the weekend, Cooper is asked in social media videos about the revelations. Cooper said it was a trip to BU during the project's filming, that she learned the alleged behavior had been continuing a decade later. Just hours before the global release of her new Hulu documentary, Cooper spoke following the film's premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend in New York City. "I spoke to one of the victims and hearing her story was horrific," Cooper said in the clip. "I knew in that moment if I don't speak about this. It is going to continue happening." She also alleged the athletic director, who per the university's website is still in his current role, declined to hear the evidence of harassment when her parents tried to present it to him. "We could go over the list of people who basically let me go and didn't check on me, mental health, nothing," Cooper said. Feldman, Boston University, nor the athletic department responded to our repeated requests for a comment for this report.

S.F.'s new Pride festival faces backlash over stance on war in Gaza

Two Bay Area artists have pulled out of SoSF, because of organizers' stance on the war in Gaza, and are instead planning their own competing Pride event. DJ Adam Kraft, founder of the event company Fake and Gay, and drag queen Nicki Jizz, who created the 'Reparations' drag show, opted to part ways with the outdoor music event scheduled for June 28 shortly after Oakland native Kehlani decided to drop off the lineup as SoSF's headliner last week. 'SoSF made a statement regarding Kehlani's stance and language being pro-Palestine, which resulted in a wave of comments asking them to clarify exactly what issues they had with Kehlani's position and language,' Kraft told the Chronicle on Monday, June 9. 'We, along with the majority of our community, stand with the Palestinian people, and felt that message should not be obfuscated.' The Chronicle has reached out to SoSF organizers for comment. The since-deleted statement by SoSF was posted to social media in May shortly after Kehlani faced concert cancellations by Cornell University and Central Park's SummerStage Pride concert over what the Ivy League deemed 'antisemitic, anti-Israel sentiments.' As first reported by the Standard, the statement noted that the festival's team 'fundamentally disagree' with Kehlani's language, and went on to explain they were seeking to 'engage with her team' instead of canceling her San Francisco appearance. A joint statement by Kehlani and the festival was also included in an effort to smooth over any new criticism. 'No person should ever fall casualty of a war they did not choose and do not support,' the statement read. 'This sentiment extends to Jewish people, the same way it extends to Palestinian people, the same way it extends to all people.' In April, Kehlani responded to her Cornell concert cancellation with an Instagram video clarifying that she is 'anti-genocide' and 'anti the actions of the Israeli government.' But she has continued to be criticized for her views. The singer has frequently used her platform to voice her opposition to Israel and Zionism, and included the phrase 'long live the intifada' in the music video for her 2024 song 'Next 2 U.' The phrase translates to 'uprising' or 'resistance' in Arabic, but is also considered by some as a call for violence against Jews. While announcing Kehlani severed ties with the event on Instagram, SoSF organizers revealed that the one-day celebration would no longer be at Pier 80's warehouse. Instead, it's set to take place as a block party across the street at 900 Marin St. That post has since been deleted, though this information is still on the event's website. It is still unclear why Kehlani, who identifies as a lesbian and uses she/they pronouns, withdrew from SoSF. But Kraft said that it did influence his and Nicki Jizz's plans to cancel their appearances. 'We pulled out of SoSF because we felt like our and our community's voices were not being heard or considered and for a Pride event, especially in this moment under the current administration, uplifting queer voices should be of the utmost importance,' Kraft said. 'I just couldn't bring myself to be a part of an event which started to feel more and more exploitative of pink dollars during such a crucial time.' 'This was an easy decision to make to stand up for what's right,' Nicki Jizz added. Looking ahead, Kraft and Nicki Jizz are determined to pull together their own Pride weekend event. 'We would love to be able to provide an alternative space where people feel more comfortable and excited to attend, and know that their money is not going to a cause or entity that is actively in opposition to their own views,' Kraft said. 'It is super last minute to attempt to do something, but we are trying our best.' Both Kraft and Nicki Jizz noted that the SoSF organizers they have worked with throughout the process have been 'understanding' and 'supportive.' But Kraft pointed out 'it feels like mixed messaging,' as the way in which organizers have continued to promote the event doesn't align with their behavior behind the scenes. One example he cited is that when SoSF shared its new flyer, sans Kehlani, they made no mention of his or Nicki Jizz's departure. 'To me that speaks volumes,' Kraft said. 'They were only using us for our local audience reach and did not value us as contributors to the event.'
