Delhi's Minto Bridge Fine Despite Heavy Rains, Internet Calls It ‘Medical Miracle'

The infamous underbridge that is believed to be over 90 years old was caught functioning properly for once amidst the monsoon season.
As torrential rains struck the national capital, Delhiites immediately worried for the infamous Minto Bridge with its reputation for waterlogging and traffic malfunctions. Much to everyone's surprise, the bridge functioned smoothly on Wednesday, July 23, with no case of waterlogging encountered by the locals and travellers.
The railway underbridge, which is approaching a century of its existence, has faced major waterlogging issues since its Independence. Because it lies at the key traffic junction of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg and Swami Vivekananda Marg (formerly Minto Road), the underbridge often posed an unavoidable hurdle during the monsoon season in the past for travellers going towards Connaught Place on one side and New Delhi station, Old Delhi and Darya Ganj on the other.
While the strategic positioning of the underbridge supports heavy vehicle turnout, it endured a flood of water gathering during the rainfalls in the city, causing a major traffic issue. The scenes were different today, however, as news agency ANI posted a video showing normal vehicular movement and no waterlogging at the infamous bridge.
'Latest visuals from Minto Bridge; traffic running smoothly. The national capital received heavy rainfall this morning," read the caption to the video, which would've raised eyebrows for locals used to facing traffic problems at the Minto Bridge.
'Despite heavy rain, traffic moved smoothly at Minto Bridge, once the first to flood with even a drizzle. That's the change Delhi is witnessing under the BJP government in just a few months!" tweeted BJP's Amit Malviya, who credited the change to the BJP government in Delhi under the new Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
An X user summed up the emotions of the Delhiites on seeing a smoothly functioning Minto Bridge, writing: 'Breaking: Minto Bridge survives Delhi rains without turning into a swimming pool! Adbhut! Avishwasniya! Akalpaniya! (Amazing! Unbelievable! Unimaginable)."
Another, however, gave a reality check to everyone by saying this should ideally not even be news in a developing country. 'One of the busiest roads in the most important borough of the country's capital, not being waterlogged due to rain is news in this country," the user wrote.

Big Shift Ahead Of Tamil Nadu Polls: O. Panneerselvam Meets CM MK Stalin Hours After Leaving NDA

In a major political shift, former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam (OPS) met Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai, with Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin also present. The meeting came just hours before OPS's faction announced its decision to exit the BJP-led NDA alliance. Senior leader Panruti Ramachandran confirmed the unanimous decision, hinting at a future realignment. The faction refused to detail reasons but suggested BJP had sidelined them. OPS, previously expelled from AIADMK, is set to tour Tamil Nadu, with alliance decisions left to future political conditions. Observers see this as a potential signal of shifting alliances before the 2026 polls.#opsexit #ndabreakup #tamilnadupolitics #mkstalin #ops #politicalrealignment #aiadmk #bjp #indiapolitics #tamilnaduelections #toi #toibharat Read More

Malegaon blast verdict: M.P. BJP leaders seek apology from Congress, Digvijaya Singh

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday (July 31, 2025) demanded apologies from the Congress for 'crafting narratives like Hindu terrorism' after a court acquitted all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. A special NIA court in Mumbai, in its judgment, said that the prosecution 'failed to prove the case' and that the accused 'deserved the benefit of doubt' while acquitting Ms. Thakur, Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit and five others. Six people had lost their lives in the blast on September 29, 2008, in Malegaon city of Maharashtra's Nashik district. Former M.P. Chief Minister Uma Bharti welcomed the verdict and said that the case was used to 'draft a theory of saffron terrorism' while accusing Congress leader and former CM Digvijaya Singh of being its 'originator'. 'The definition of saffron terrorism was coined during this case. Its originator was Digvijaya Singh ji and he was doing this work at the behest of [Congress leader] Rahul Gandhi. To defame Hindutva all over the world, the term saffron terrorism was coined in comparison to Islamic terrorism. And to prove the term, innocent people were made victims,' Ms. Bharti said, while claiming that Ms. Thakur and Lt. Col. Purohit faced severe torture in prison. While specifying that terrorism has no colour, Ms. Bharti claimed that the term 'saffron terrorism' was coined by those who were trying to appease the minorities. She asked what action will be taken against those who 'conspired against the Hindu community'. M.P. CM Mohan Yadav also took to X to hail the verdict and said that it is a 'blow to the Congress' narrow-minded mentality'. 'This verdict is a strong response to those who insult Sanatan Dharma, sadhus-saints, and the saffron flag. The Congress should publicly apologise to all Sanatani people,' he wrote. Meanwhile, Shyam Bhavarlal Sahu, an Indore-based businessman who was discharged from the case in December 2017, said that all the accused had been 'framed in a fabricated case'. 'I was framed under 25-30 charges in the case but we have received justice now. The Congress' conspiracy has been exposed. The party should apologise for its conspiracy, though I don't think it will,' Mr. Sahu said, speaking to news agency PTI. 'While I was in jail after my arrest, my elder brother Mohan Sahu used to come and support me during court appearances. During an appearance, he suffered a heart attack in front of my eyes and died about half-an-hour later. I could not do anything to save him,' said Mr. Sahu, who was arrested in October 2008.

‘One spoke for India, another…': BJP highlights difference in Shashi Tharoor, Rahul Gandhi remarks after Trump tariffs

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a jibe at Congress, highlighting the difference between the remarks made by senior party leaders Shashi Tharoor and Rahul Gandhi after Donald Trump imposed 25 per cent tariffs on Indian products. In a post on X, BJP's Annamalai said while one spoke for India's interests, 'another spoke to please his offshore masters'. 'I came across remarks by two Congress leaders on the same topic today. One spoke for India's Interest, and the other spoke in a tone that would please his offshore masters. When the world acknowledges India as the only bright spot on an otherwise dark horizon, here is the leader of the opposition who feels otherwise,' Annamalai said. He said, 'LoP Thiru Rahul Gandhi continues to wear ignorance like a badge of honour. He is blind to India's rise, yet ever eager to echo foreign voices that undermine it.' Amit Malviya also slammed Rahul Gandhi for his remarks and said, 'Rahul Gandhi has hit a new low by echoing 'dead economy' jibe — a shameful insult to the aspirations, achievements, and well-being of the Indian people. But let's be honest — the only thing truly 'dead' here is Rahul Gandhi's own political credibility and legacy.' After the US imposed 25 per cent tariff and Donald Trump took a 'dead economy' jibe at India for its business ties with Russia, Rahul Gandhi said everyone knows 'Indian economy is dead economy'. He said, "On the US President Trump's dead economy remark, Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi says, 'Yes, he is right, Everybody knows this except the Prime Minsiter and the Finance Minsiter. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact... The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. BJP has finished the economy to help Adani.' When Shashi Tharoor was asked about trade negotiations between the US and India, the Thiruvananthapuram MP said if America is unreasonable, 'we have to move elsewhere.' 'It is a challenging negotiation. We are negotiating with many countries. The US is not the only negotiation. We have ongoing negotiations with the EU, we already concluded a deal with the UK, and we are talking with other countries also. If we can't compete in America, we may have to diversify our markets outside of America. We are not out of options. If America is completely unreasonable with its demands, we have to move elsewhere. That is the strength of India; we are not a totally export-dependent economy like China. We have a good and strong domestic market. We must give strong support to our negotiators to find the best deal possible. If a good deal is not possible, we may have to walk away.'
