Late in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham found tight end Lucas Krull wide open in the back left corner of the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown.

Krull, 27, entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh with the New Orleans Saints in 2022. He spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad, appearing in just one game that year.
After being cut by the Saints in 2023, Krull was picked up by the Broncos. He hauled in eight receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown in his first season in Denver. Last year, Krull totaled 19 receptions for 152 yards. He's now competing for a spot on the 53-man roster. The touchdown catch was his lone reception on Saturday.

Pete Alonso breaks Darryl Strawberry's Mets franchise home run record
NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso hit his 253rd career homer on Tuesday night, breaking the franchise record held by Darryl Strawberry for 37 years. The 30-year-old Alonso drove a 95.1 mph fastball from Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Strider just over the wall in right-center for a two-run shot in the third inning. Alonso's 27th homer of the season lifted the Mets to a 5-1 lead. The Mets celebrated the accomplishment with a scoreboard graphic with the number 253 alongside pictures of Alonso and polar bears in honor of the slugger's nickname. Alonso embraced Brandon Nimmo, who scored ahead of him, and another longtime teammate, on-deck hitter Jeff McNeil, before doffing his cap and blowing kisses to a near-sellout crowd that included New York owner Steve Cohen. Led by manager Carlos Mendoza, the Mets poured out of the dugout to exchange embraces with Alonso as the crowd chanted his name. Alonso emerged for another curtain call during McNeil's at-bat. Following the inning, the Mets played the theme from 'The Natural' and Alonso again doffed his cap as the camera lingered on Strawberry's No. 18 hanging above foul territory in left field at Citi Field. A homegrown star, Alonso broke into the big leagues with a bang in 2019, hitting 53 home runs to set a major league rookie record and establish a franchise high for a single season. The five-time All-Star has reached 40 two other times and been one of the most consistent sluggers in baseball since his arrival. After a protracted negotiation, he returned to the Mets as a free agent in February on a $54 million, two-year contract that includes a $24 million player option for 2026 which Alonso likely will decline. Strawberry broke the previous Mets record with his 155th home run on May 3, 1988, passing Dave Kingman. Placer High sells pieces of historic gym floor after renovation
After decades of wear from basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and community events, Placer High School's iconic Earl Crabbe Gym is getting a major renovation, and fans will soon have a chance to take home a piece of history. The school recently replaced its original hardwood floor, a project costing $242,000 and marking the final phase of the gym's renovation. To celebrate, the school will sell sections of the old floor on August 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the campus in Auburn. Prices will range from $50 to $100, with proceeds going directly back into the school's athletics program for transportation, uniforms, and equipment. Athletic Director Mike Sabins said the updates honor the gym's legacy while making it game-ready for the future. "We kept the same design from before with a few tweaks," Sabins said. "We tried to respect the building and keep it as original as possible." The gym's Hillmen sideline lettering has been preserved, with one section repurposed inside the press box. The school also plans to mount the iconic center-court "P" to keep it on display. The new floor features a fresh stain, making it slightly darker and more aged in appearance compared to the bright finish of many modern gym floors. "It's going to be an awesome venue," Sabins said. "People are going to really like it." Pieces of the historic floor will vary in size, from 15-by-15-inch squares to 3-foot sections. For Auburn locals, it's more than just old wood, it's a piece of decades of Hillmen history.
