Two dead, one injured in Tapah North-South Expressway crash
Tapah district police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said the accident involved a Toyota Vios, with three men trapped inside during the 8.30pm incident.
"Investigation revealed that the driver was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Penang with two other passengers from China.
"At the scene, the car, which was in the right lane, attempted to avoid a lorry that suddenly changed lanes in front of it before losing control.
"The driver of the car sustained injuries, while the two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene," he said when contacted today.
He added that the post-mortem would be conducted today and urged witnesses of the incident to come forward.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 8.53pm, and a team of firemen was dispatched to the scene.
"A 56-year-old driver sustained injuries to his hand, while two other passengers, both Chinese nationals, were pronounced dead at the scene.
"The operations commander conducted a size-up and directed personnel to carry out rescue operations using rescue tools to extricate the trapped victims.
"The operation was completed at 10.01pm and involved nine firemen from the Tapah station," he said.

KUANTAN: Two Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UnIPSAS) students were killed, while two healthcare staff were injured in an accident involving a motorcycle and an ambulance at a traffic light intersection near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Paya Besar, Jalan Gambang, on Tuesday (July 15) morning. The 49-year-old ambulance driver and his 43-year-old assistant were also injured and are currently receiving further treatment at the hospital, he added. Supt Adli said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Meanwhile, UnIPSAS, in a Facebook post, extended its condolences to the families of the two students and prayed that their souls would be blessed and placed among the righteous. A video circulating online shows what appears to be a couple having a dispute, with the boyfriend losing emotional control and using a fruit knife to slash his girlfriend's neck, causing her to bleed profusely and struggle on the ground. The woman bled heavily after being slashed, lying on the ground with a pale complexion. Video Shows Continued Assault According to the video, after the incident, the man allegedly continued to tightly restrain his girlfriend tightly, pulling her hair and refusing to let go. Nearby witnesses and police officers quickly stepped forward to stop the man; the woman appeared pale and occasionally let out painful moans. The video shows witnesses immediately using a towel to press against the woman's slashed neck after the incident; police officers took the man away. Police Weigh In Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan bin Wan Mamat, Subang Jaya District Police Chief, said officers received a police report at approximately 6:30 PM on that day regarding a foreign national man who had injured his female companion, also a foreign national, at a private university in Subang Jaya using a knife. The 20-year-old victim sustained lacerations to the left side of her neck and was taken to University Malaya Medical Centre's emergency department, where she was placed in the red zone for further treatment. Police confirmed the victim is in stable condition. The 21-year-old suspect, described as the victim's former boyfriend, was arrested immediately following the incident. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. If convicted, the offence carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to 10 years, a fine, or whipping, or any combination of these punishments.
