Director Jake Schreier says Thunderbolts* is inspired by Toy Story 3 - and that the upcoming Marvel film follows a similar concept.
"I had Toy Story 3 in there. It wasn't as focused on a genre as much as dynamics amongst characters," Schreier told Empire. "They all have that dynamic of a team that is thrown together. That [furnace] sequence works so well because you've come to care about these characters so much. Can they get out of the trash can together?'
The film sees a group of unlikely heroes band together to save the world (a world without the Avengers, mind you) after being assembled by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). The group in question includes Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr aka Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov aka Taskmaster, and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. Additionally, Harrison Ford appears as General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, Geraldine Viswanathan as the Contessa's assistant Mel, with Lewis Pullman as the mysterious supervillain Sentry.
Thunderbolts* is the final movie in Marvel Phase 5, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps kicking off Marvel Phase 6.
Thunderbolts* is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2025, delayed from its previous December 20, 2024 release date due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. For more, check out our guide to the story so far in Marvel Phase 5 and a look ahead at what's still to come in Marvel Phase 6.

Unreal Fest reveals that 'The Witcher 4' looks great on PS5, but what does that mean for PC?

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. If you weren't tapped into the Epic Games' Unreal Fest stream on Tuesday, you might've been sorry to miss all-new gameplay from The Witcher 4. To be fair, it's less of a gameplay demo and more of a tech demo, but it's still quite exciting. The clip shown of The Witcher 4 was shot on PS5 at 60 frames per second. I haven't seen a more high-fidelity game on the PS5 outside of The Last of Us Part II. The truth is that developers can make games with super high fidelity. The problem is that it not only takes time, but it's a killer on graphics cards. According to Epic Games, the solution to those problems is the latest version of its 3D graphics game engine, Unreal Engine 5.6, announced on Wednesday. Here's what The Witcher 4 is capable of, and how what was shown on just a PS5 may impact what we see on PC. Best Gaming Laptop Get Laptop Mag's best gaming laptop for $500 off while you can. The MSI Raider 18 HX AI features an Intel Core Ultra 9-285HX, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080, 64GB DDR5, 4TB NVMe SSD, and an 18-inch 4K UHD+ mini LED Deal Unreal Engine 5.6 is clearly focused on "eliminating key CPU bottlenecks," to use the words of an Epic Games press release. For example, the Unreal Fest stream showed a crowd of over 300 people in the market square of Valdrest, the port city in The Witcher, going about their business with little impact on the performance. The demo also showed diverse character interactions, from people bargaining with merchants to people getting tossed out of the inn. Now, we've seen these things before in plenty of games. However, you usually don't see that kind of thing with this level of fidelity, intractability, and quantity, because your GPU might explode. You usually don't see that kind of thing with this level of fidelity, intractability, and quantity, because your GPU might explode. But one of the biggest updates is to the foliage, specifically the addition of Nanite Foliage. Developers can model every leaf and pine needle while maintaining memory efficiency and fast rendering. For those unaware, Unreal's signature Nanite system is an internal mesh format and rendering technology that allows for pixel-scale detail that can dial back and reveal enough detail that can be perceived. So a tree off in the mountains may look like a mesh of cubes up close, but from where you're standing, it looks like a perfect recreation of the trees around you. There's also an update to motion called Multi-Character Motion Matching. So when Ciri hops on her horse, Kelpie, the interaction looks seamless from every angle, even when you're hopping on her at high speed. Unreal Engine's Chaos Flesh Solver also makes Kelpie's muscles look realistic as you're riding her. Again, the demo was showcased in PS5. I can see myself getting lost in this immersive world of the demo alone. It's thanks to consoles that technology like Unreal Engine 5.6 exists because high fidelity in relatively mid-performing tech is key. But what will The Witcher 4 look like on one of the best gaming laptops? Well, I'm a bit scared and excited. It won't be the same level of fidelity just with enhanced resolution and frame rates. We know for a fact that Nvidia's DLSS 4 super sampling technology is making its way onto The Witcher 4. We still don't know exactly what CD Projekt RED is implementing with Nvidia's technology. More than likely, we'll get DLAA and Multi-Frame Generation to remove visual artifacts, but what level of ray tracing will be available? And how much different will The Witcher 4 be compared with the PS5 demo we just saw? Keep in mind that we don't even have a release date for The Witcher 4, and the next generation of consoles is not too far away, likely within the next couple years. So while the demo today was hella gorgeous, I think we only scratched the surface of what this game might look like. I played Elden Ring Nightreign on the RTX 5090, Intel Arc 140V, and AMD Radeon 8060S — here's what happened Doom: The Dark Ages is my favorite kind of nightmare — this is how it runs on an RTX 5090 gaming laptop The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion: Remastered is here, and this is how it runs on my RTX 5090 gaming laptop

Ryan Reynolds shares mock video reaction to having Deadpool role ‘stolen' by Neil Patrick Harris

Ryan Reynolds has shared a comic video reacting to having the role of Deadpool 'stolen' a forthcoming video game about the character. Marvel's Deadpool VR, a new game for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S platforms, was announced at Summer Game Fest 2025 this week – and will see Broadway star Neil Patrick Harris voice the comic book character that Reynolds has played on screen since 2009. Just hours after the trailer for Marvel's Deadpool VR was released online, Reynolds shared a video in which he can be seen 'over-reacting' to the news. In the video, Reynolds can be seen wearing a lab coat and glasses, in an apparent imitation of Harris in the latter's star-making role, as a teenage physician in the sitcom Doogie Howser, MD. Journaling on his personal computer, Reynolds writes: 'Today, I learned a lesson about buttholes they don't teach you in medical school. 'People who steal your signature role are the biggest buttholes of all,' he continues. 'No, I don't blame Meta Quest. Neil Patrick Harris is an amazing actor with the nurturing voice of an angel, but even though I haven't hit puberty yet, I still know when you're getting totally screwed.' Reynolds is then interrupted by the appearance of Robyn Lively, who tells him that he's being 'vindictive and stupid'. Lively, the half-sister of Reynolds' wife Blake Lively, appeared in Doogie Howser as a nursing student who dates Harris's character. Fans reacted positively to the video on social media, with one person writing: 'Ryan is a goat for this.' 'It's funny that most people don't realise he's parodying NPH's old show as revenge for taking the Deadpool role. But, it also just reminds me how old I am because I instantly recognised the reference,' another wrote. 'It's like they didn't even ASK him. Because you know Ryan would've PAID to do the voice,' someone else claimed. Reynolds has portrayed the character of Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, in four feature films: X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) Deadpool (2016), Deadpool 2 (2018) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). While Reynolds was not one of the many names announced to star in the forthcoming Avengers sequel, it is widely expected that Reynolds will reprise the character in a future Marvel film.

Game Freak Breaks Free From ‘Pokémon' With ‘Beast Of Reincarnation'

'Beast of Reincarnation' is a new and upcoming game developed by Game Freak. For many, Game Freak is synonymous with Pokémon, but their upcoming game Beast of Reincarnation looks to shatter that preconception. Set in the far-off future, Beast of Reincarnation looks similar to something like NieR: Automata by way of Sekiro. In short, an ostentatious action game with a fascinating setting and stunning visuals. While the initial trailer (shown below) only lists the fact that the game will be coming to Xbox, it will also be released on the PlayStation 5 and PC, via Steam. The publisher behind this is also curious, called Fictions, their only other game is LEGO Party!, which is out later this year. The reason this new publisher seems noteworthy is that Beast of Reincarnation is clearly not a small game in a budgetary sense. For one, it looks very impressive graphically, and for another, there seems to be some genuine production value behind it. This is interesting because Game Freak is often criticized for its somewhat low-budget approach to Pokémon. Whereas this new game shows that maybe Game Freak isn't the one at fault there. Beast of Reincarnation will be released in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Follow me on X, Facebook and YouTube.
