Former Spartan defensive back waived by Chicago Bears
Following his collegiate career, Speed was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Now, trying to make a career for himself in the professional ranks, Speed is looking to latch on with an NFL franchise.
Speed spent his first two seasons with the Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts, and had most recently signed with the Chicago Bears, but it appears that his time in the NFC North has come to a quick end.
The Bears waived the former Spartan on Monday, ending his training camp in Chicago.

Tom Brady: Patrick Mahomes is the QB I see like me, doing everything it takes to win
Tom Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders, but it's the quarterback of the AFC West rival Chiefs he most respects in the NFL today. Asked on the Joel Klatt Show if there are any quarterbacks he respects for how they go about their business or remind him of himself, Brady named only Mahomes as he gave a long answer about everything a quarterback has to do to win. 'It's always that line about who wants to win versus who's willing to do whatever it takes to win,' Brady said. 'Everyone wants to win, but what are the habits and the daily habits and the actionable things you need to do every day to put your team in a position to win? So Patrick Mahomes, to me, is the one that does that the most often because who he is, obviously his physical talent, how he understands what he needs to do offensively, and he brings a consistent winning attitude to work every single day. In the biggest moments you can depend on him the most. That's clear.' Brady didn't mention any other active quarterbacks by name but indicated that the other top quarterbacks in the league still have more to prove before they're on Mahomes' level. 'There's other guys that are still developing, and they need to prove it before, in my mind, I can say, 'Oh yeah, he's done it.' Well, obviously, he hasn't done it yet,' Brady said. 'They've all shown flashes of amazing things. They're all great players. All of them can make tremendous plays. At some point, they need to take the next step and take, in my mind, more ownership of what they're doing, in terms of the organizational level, to do more things to empower more people, to get more people on that train or that bus with you to head in the direction you want to go.' Brady said he isn't sure if the current crop of quarterbacks outside Mahomes are doing every single thing they need to do to be the leaders of a franchise. 'The quarterback, in many ways, is the CEO of the team,' Brady said. 'Certainly on game day, there's nobody that impacts the game more than the quarterback in NFL football. Now, you have to have the ability and the belief from the entire team, offensively and defensively, that your word means so much. And how you act every day matters to all three phases of the game. As a quarterback you don't just punch the clock, 'I did my job, I threw for 40 touchdowns, why are we not winning?' What are you doing in the offseason to help your defense? What are you doing to push the personnel department, to get people doing the right thing. Are you involved in game planning? I used to do game plans. I used to walk in and say, 'Here's the things we're doing.' I used to do my own walk-throughs. I used to say, 'Alright, guys, I don't give a fuck if the coaches want to come, we're doing our walk-through.'' Brady reached 10 Super Bowls and won seven of them, the best in NFL history. Mahomes has been to five Super Bowls and won three. Time will tell if Mahomes is ever going to supplant Brady as the greatest quarterback in NFL history, but Brady thinks Mahomes is doing the right things to get there — even as the team Brady co-owns tries to prevent that from happening.

Nevada court apparently clears way for former Raiders coach Jon Gruden to sue NFL over emails
LAS VEGAS -- A Nevada court apparently cleared the way Monday for a 2021 lawsuit filed by former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden to proceed against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, alleging that a 'malicious and orchestrated campaign' was used to destroy Gruden's career by leaking old emails he had sent that included racist, misogynistic and homophobic comments. In 2022, the NFL appealed to Nevada's high court after a judge in Las Vegas rejected league bids to dismiss Gruden's claim outright or to order out-of-court talks through an arbitration process that could be overseen by Goodell. The Nevada Supreme Court, in a 5-2 ruling, said that 'the arbitration clause in the NFL Constitution is unconscionable and does not apply to Gruden as a former employee.' Gruden's lawsuit alleged that Goodell and the league pressured the Raiders to fire Gruden by leaking emails containing racist, sexist and homophobic comments that Gruden sent, when he was an on-air analyst at ESPN from 2011 to 2018. Gruden resigned from the Raiders in October 2021 and sued the league a month later. The NFL declined to comment on the ruling. Gruden's attorney did not return a phone message seeking comment. Gruden was Raiders head coach when the team moved in 2020 to Las Vegas from Oakland, California. He's seeking monetary damages, alleging that selective disclosure of the emails and their publication by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times ruined his career and endorsement contracts. Gruden coached the Raiders in Oakland from 1998 to 2001, then led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for seven years, winning a Super Bowl title in 2003. He spent several years as a TV analyst for ESPN before being hired by the Raiders again in 2018. He later consulted for the New Orleans Saints in 2023. He is now a part-owner and consultant for the Nashville Kats, a team in the Arena Football One league.

NFL Top 100: Texans QB C.J. Stroud is No. 39, will face Cardinals in 2025
Another Cardinals opponent is in the 'NFL Top 100' and Texans QB C.J. Stroud comes in at No. 39. The NFL began its seventh week of the "NFL Top 100" on Monday. This week, players 31-40 will be revealed, and players Nos. 39-40 kicked off the week. Player No. 39 is yet another player the Arizona Cardinals will face as an opponent in 2025. That player is Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud. He is No. 39 after debuting after his rookie season at No. 20 last year. Texans defensive end Will Anderson spoke about Stroud's leadership, noting that every player knows who is in charge when Stroud walks in a room. Stroud came into his second season "playing like a vet," Anderson added. He said that teams "know he can sling the ball." In two NFL seasons, he has led the Texans to two division titles and two playoff wins. Teammate Nico Collins, a receiver, says Stroud "is the best quarterback" in his eyes. He completed 63.2% of his passes last season for 3,727 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. In his 2023 appearance against the Cardinals, he passed for 336 yards and two touchdowns, but hw was picked off three times, his only career three-interception game.
