Cardinals get 2 crucial injury updates
The St. Louis Cardinals' form lately has been up and down as of late. They were just swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road. Before those three straight losses, they swept the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. Those two results came after splitting a series with the Chicago Cubs at home, and on Friday, the Cardinals and Cubs will resume their intense rivalry. Before the series opener, Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak gave an update on a couple of injured contributors to the press, including the Athletic's Katie Woo on X, formerly Twitter.

'John Mozeliak said today Iván Herrera (hamstring) is ramping up well and could begin a rehab assignment in roughly a week and a half & a post-ASB return is possible,' posted Woo on the social media platform. 'Also said Jordan Walker (appendicitis) will continue getting reps with Springfield but shouldn't be too long.'
Getting both Herrera and Walker back would be very useful indeed. Herrera had taken over the starting catching job. Walker was starting to find his footing at the major league level. Both players will hopefully be long-term pieces for the franchise. Mozeliak hopes they will be a part of his legacy with St. Louis, as he's set to leave his current role after the season. Will Herrera and Walker be able to get back in time to help the Cardinals make a postseason push?

Herrera's Grade 2 left hamstring strain was a tough blow to the Cards when he went down a couple weeks ago. He'd really come into his own at the starting backstop and was building a good rapport with the pitching staff. Could St. Louis finally have Yadier Molina's heir apparent? Free agent Willson Contreras was supposed to fill that role, but now he's at first base. For now however, the Cardinals will have to do without him.
As for Walker, his appendicitis was certainly an unexpected blow. Yet he's already rehabbing with Springfield in the minors, so don't be surprised if he does make his return before the All-Star Break. It is also possible that St. Louis decides to take a little more cautious route and bring their budding slugger back after the break. If Walker and Herrera can impact their postseason hopes, then the sooner the Cards get them back, the better.

Florida Gators 2025 Position Preview: Tight Ends originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Billy Napier-run Florida Gators have been known for their usage of the tight end position. Whether it is blocking in the running game or being deep threats and checkdown options in the air attack, Florida's tight ends have been essential since Napier took over as head coach. This will be especially true in the upcoming season. With a loaded running back room, a slew of young, talented receivers, and a budding star at quarterback, the veteran presence of the Gators' tight ends will play a big role in Florida's offense. After losing their backup in the offseason, the Gators' tight end group is comprised of a pair of upperclassmen who promise to be big parts of this year's offense, along with a second-year player with a very high upside. Florida's no-question No. 1 tight end for the 2025 season will be redshirt junior Hayden Hansen. He started all 13 games last year for the Gators and has made 22 starts in 25 appearances in his collegiate career. Hansen has been a threat for the Gators as both a blocker and receiver in his time donning the orange and blue. In 2024, the nearly 6-foot-8 tight end caught 15 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown. He also did not allow a sack in 75 pass blocking snaps. Behind Hansen, Napier had to find someone to be Florida's No. 2 on the depth chart. The Gators lost Arlis Boardingham this offseason, who transferred to Bowling Green. Boardingham was impressive the past two years, totaling 44 receptions for 417 yards and six scores. The tight end who will presumably step into Boardingham's role will be Tony Livingston. Livingston, who is entering his junior season this fall, registered over 200 snaps last year in 10 games. He tallied 11 catches for just over 100 yards and two touchdowns. After Hansen and Livingston, Florida will likely turn to Amir Jackson at No. 3 on the depth chart. Jackson is the highest-rated tight end Napier has signed in his tenure at Florida. Out of Portal High School in Georgia, Jackson was ranked as the fifth-best at his position in the country, according to On3. He played in just four games as a freshman in 2024, earning a redshirt. With the leadership of Hansen and Livingston, and the raw talent of Jackson, the tight end position may turn out to be one of Florida's deepest groups on the roster in 2025. Former Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller, quite possibly the best defensive player in the team's history, will be continuing his career in 2025. Rumors had been swirling that Miller was about to land a new deal, and it appears that he has found one. Miller announced on his Instagram account that he will sign a deal with the Washington Commanders. Broncos fans will always wish that there was a way for Miller to continue his playing career in Denver, but he has made it clear that his heart will always be there. In Washington, he joins an upstart team that reached the NFC Championship Game last year and has a chance to compete. As a 36-year-old pass-rusher just looking to be a situational specialist for a team, this is a great move for Miller. The Commanders will be the fourth team Miller has played for. The Broncos traded him to the Los Angeles Rams during the 2021 season in exchange for a second and third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. After half a season in L.A., which included a trip to the Super Bowl, Miller signed with the Buffalo Bills, where he has spent the last three seasons. In Washington, Miller will join a defense that has savvy veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner and a defensive front led by Daron Payne. The Commanders know they will need all hands on deck to overtake the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East, so Miller may get more of an opportunity there than he would have in many other places. Miller has 129.5 career sacks, which ranks No. 16 on the league's official list. His 110.5 sacks in Denver are the most in franchise history and whenever his career ends, you can expect Miller to sign a one-day contract with the Broncos to retire in the Mile High City. But that day is not now, as Miller will give it at least one more run, now playing in the nation's capital. HOUSTON (AP) — Emmanuel Sabbi scored a goal in the fourth minute, Sebastian Berhalter added a goal and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat the Houston Dynamo 3-0 on Wednesday night. Yohei Takaoka had two saves and his MLS-high 10th shutout this season for Vancouver. Mathias Laborda's header from the center of the area, off a ball-in played by Édier Ocampo, was parried by diving goalkeeper Jonathan Bond but Sabbi blasted a half-volley into the net to open the scoring. Brian White, on the right side of the area, played a pass back to a charging Sebastian Berhalter for a first-touch finish from just outside the penalty box in the 42nd. White had a penalty kick blocked by Bond but tapped in his own rebound to cap the scoring in the 56th. The Whitecaps (12-5-5) had lost back-to-back games — by a combined score of 6-0 — and four of their last five.
