Mubi denies it's "shelved" Eddie Huang's Vice Is Broke after he said they "fund genocide"
In his video, Huang—a well-known chef and former Vice contributor, whose memoir also served as the basis for ABC's Fresh Off The Boat—claimed that Mubi president Jason Ropell called him up on Thursday and told him the film wouldn't be released, and that, in Huang's words, 'You and the producers can buy it back from us if you want, but otherwise, nobody's gonna see the film.' Huang asserted he was being made an 'example' of after calling out Mubi for its ties to Sequoia, and stating that he wouldn't do any promotion for the film. Mubi has denied this characterization of the conversation between Ropell and Huang.
Sequoia, a Silicon Valley investment firm, reportedly invested $100 million in Mubi earlier this year, provoking controversy that was directed toward the streamer/distributor. (Per Variety, Sequoia also has links to an Israeli defense tech start-up called Kela, which touts the Israeli military credentials of its founders, and whose website states that it provides 'battle-tested tech for modern warfare.') Several filmmakers posted an open letter earlier this week calling on Mubi to cut ties with Sequoia, with Huang posting a link to coverage of the letter with the comment 'I agree. I did not make Vice Is Broke to help fund genocide.' Mubi has stated that 'the beliefs of individual investors do not reflect the views of Mubi.'

'Wednesday' star Jenna Ortega on shooting THAT scene: 'Wednesday truly is out of her depth' (exclusive)
Ortega and director Tim Burton break down season 2, part 1's Points Jenna Ortega shares what it was like to film the final scene of Part 1. For the first four episodes of Wednesday's second season, the teenage sleuth has had a lot on her plate. Not only has her family complicated matters by joining her at Nevermore this year, but there's also a new killer in town. Oh, and then there's the small issue of Wednesday's (Jenna Ortega) visions telling her that she's going to be the cause of Enid's (Emma Myers) death. "I think it's really important to see girls looking after each other and caring about one another," Ortega tells Entertainment Weekly during an interview for our latest digital cover story. "I don't think anyone could look at our show or look at any of the relationships between the women —besides maybe the familial ones — and see them as anything but supportive or understanding. And that's really great to see, especially in a school environment." The good news — at least for now — is that Enid has survived the first half of the season. The bad news is that Part 1 ended with Tyler (Hunter Doohan), in full Hyde form, launching Wednesday out of a second story window before escaping from Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. 'It's the first time, at least in the season, where Wednesday truly is out of her depth,' Ortega says of the moment Wednesday comes face-to-face with the Hyde. 'They were talking about me running down the hall or me doing some sort of slide underneath [the Hyde], and I remember telling them, 'I don't think so, because this isn't an action show. And Wednesday's too smart for that. She has to understand that there's no chance. She could run, but it's a huge monster.' So, I started saying that, and then it kind of piggybacked into Tim's idea of it just being this really, really quiet silence, which stands out from the rest of the episode.' Director Tim Burton made the choice not to show the actual moment where the Hyde throws Wednesday, instead cutting to outside of the window, where audiences sit in a brief silence before the heroine comes crashing through. 'It felt very poetic and dramatic and surprising,' Burton says of the decision. Ortega adds, 'We don't need to see everything. Sometimes it's better to leave it to the audience's imagination.' Thanks to a Part 2 preview — and EW's exclusive first-look photos — we know Wednesday isn't really dead. Thanks to creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, we also know that Enid is still in danger. And according to the cast, that leads to a lot of good episodes for the rest of the season. 'All of my favorite episodes are in the back half of the season,' Myers says. "My favorite episode is 7; I had a blast shooting it. Wait, episode 6 is crazy too! Episode 6 was probably the most difficult thing I've ever had to film. I'm so excited for people to watch. They're gonna die." For Ortega, it's all about the big finale. "The finale episode, we did have a ball," she says. "You could tell Tim was in the zone, and it's very graphic and comic book-esque at times. That was very exciting."For more, read EW's latest digital cover story. Binged Wednesday Already? Here's When Part 2 Is Out (And What To Watch While You Wait)
Wednesday fans' patience was finally rewarded this week when, almost three years on since the first season began streaming, new episodes finally debuted on Netflix. Unfortunately, the wait isn't quite over, though. You see, as Netflix tends to do with its biggest releases, the second season of Wednesday was split into two, so while the first four are available to stream now, there's still a four-week wait until the second half of the series arrives on the platform. How you fill in that time is up to you, but we do have some suggestions for things to stream just for Wednesday devotees… What to stream on Netflix while you wait for the latest episodes of Wednesday season 2? Of course, Wednesday Addams has existed long before Tim Burton and Netflix put their unique spin on the character. While Jenna Ortega has become synonymous with the role since Wednesday's premiere in 2022, many would argue that the definitive version of the character was Christina Ricci's, in 1991's The Addams Family and the far superior, laugh-out-loud hilarious follow-up, 1993's Addams Family Values. As luck would have it, both of those films are currently streaming on Netflix, starring an incredible cast that includes Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd, Carol Kane and Joan Cusack in the oh-so-meme-able role of Debbie Jellinsky. Meanwhile if you're looking for something creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky and all-together-ooky, but still family friendly, the 2019 animated film The Addams Family is currently on Prime Video, as is its 2021 sequel. These animated movies feature Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron as the voices of Gomez and Morticia Addams, while the family is completed by the likes of Chloe Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Bette Midler and, curiously, Snoop Dogg as Cousin Itt. Alternatively, if Wednesday has got you curious to dive into more of Tim Burton's catalogue, Beetlejuice and Corpse Bride are both streaming on Netflix, while the more recent sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is on Now. Many of Tim Burton's other notable projects, including Edward Scissorhands, Alice In Wonderland and The Nightmare Before Christmas (which, notably, he produced but did not direct) are also on Disney+. When is the second half of Wednesday season 2 coming out? The final four episodes in the series will arrive on Netflix on Wednesday 3 September. Excitingly, one of these episodes will feature Lady Gaga's much-hyped cameo, with the Grammy winner having also apparently recorded a new song to coincide with her appearance. A third season of Wednesday is also confirmed to be in the works, with showrunner Alfred Gough teasing: 'Our goal for season three is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can. 'We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday. We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in season three!' It's not yet known when production on the third season will begin, though, or when we can expect to see it on Netflix. There is one five-letter word to deduce every day by process of elimination. The daily word is the same for everyone. Wordle blew up in popularity in late 2021 after creator Josh Wardle made it easy for players to share an emoji-based grid with their friends and followers that detailed how they fared each day. The game's success spurred dozens of clones across a swathe of categories and formats. The New York Times purchased Wordle in early 2022 for an undisclosed sum. The publication said that players collectively played Wordle 5.3 billion times in 2024. So, it's little surprise that Wordle is one of the best online games and puzzles you can play daily. How to play Wordle To start playing Wordle, you simply need to enter one five-letter word. The game will tell you how close you are to that day's secret word by highlighting letters that are in the correct position in green. Letters that appear in the word but aren't in the right spot will be highlighted in yellow. If you guess any letters that are not in the secret word, the game will gray those out on the virtual keyboard. However, you can still use those letters in subsequent guesses. You'll only have six guesses to find each day's word, though you still can use grayed-out letters to help narrow things down. It's also worth remembering that letters can appear in the secret word more than once. Wordle is free to play on the NYT's website and apps, as well as on Meta Quest headsets and Discord. The game refreshes at midnight local time. If you log into a New York Times account, you can track your stats, including the all-important win streak. How to play Wordle more than once a day If you have a NYT subscription that includes full access to the publication's games, you don't have to stop after a single round of Wordle. You'll have access to an archive of more than 1,500 previous Wordle games. So if you're a relative newcomer, you'll be able to go back and catch up on previous editions. In addition, paid NYT Games members have access to a tool called the Wordle Bot. This can tell you how well you performed at each day's game.
