Nissan's New CEO Previously Said He Wanted to Revive the Silvia

has named Ivan Espinosa its new CEO, and he succeeds Makoto Uchida, who has held the position since 2019.
Espinosa has been involved in Nissan's global product planning since 2010 and has acted as chief planning officer since April 2024.
Espinosa faces a steep uphill battle as Nissan continues to face financial troubles and falling sales figures.
Nissan has appointed Ivan Espinosa as its new CEO, and his promotion is intended to revive employee confidence in the company's top management. He was chosen today at a board of directors meeting and will take over the role on April 1. He succeeds Makoto Uchida, who has held the position of global CEO since 2019.
Espinosa is a well-known figure within Nissan, having joined the company in 2003, and he has been the chief planning officer since April 2024. He takes the reigns from Uchida while Nissan is in a precarious position. Sales are down, merger talks with Honda fell through, and Automotive News reports that the company's credit rating is now considered to be junk status.
In a news conference, Uchida apologized for leaving his role with the company in its current position. "I deeply regret that I had to pass the baton to my successor in these circumstances," the former CEO said.
Speaking at a press conference after being named CEO, Espinosa said he wants to investigate Nissan's entire strategy in North America, according to a separate AN report. "We're going to be looking at the whole system," he said.
One potential avenue Espinosa could use to try and claw Nissan back to stability could involve more enthusiast vehicles. While acting as VP of global strategy, Espinosa said it was his dream to build a new version of the Nissan Silvia. "It'll be a challenge," he said at the time. "But it's my job to find ways to do stuff like this because I think it'll be great for customers and the brand, and if I can put the right formula in place, we could make it work."
Of course, Espinosa will need to focus on bringing the embattled automaker back to profitability before Nissan can allocate resources to a new sports car. Still, with order books for the R35-generation GT-R officially closed and no replacement in sight, Nissan is without a current halo model. While reviving the Silvia currently looks like a moonshot, it's at least on the table now that Espinosa is leading the company.

Lead-Free Piezoelectric Ceramics Market to Grow 12.3% Annually Through 2030

"Driven by Rising Environmental Regulations and Breakthrough R&D, Lead-Free Piezoelectric Ceramics Emerge as a Key Enabler of Sustainable Electronics Innovation" BOSTON, Aug. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the latest study from BCC Research, the "Lead-Free Piezoelectric Ceramics: Technologies and Global Opportunities" is projected to grow from $307.3 million in 2025 to $549.8 million by the end of 2030, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.3% from 2025 through 2030. This report presents a comprehensive analysis of the global market for lead-free piezoelectric ceramics, offering qualitative and quantitative insights. The market is segmented by material, including potassium sodium niobate (KNN), bismuth sodium titanate (BNT), barium titanate (BT), and others. It is also categorized by configuration, such as monolith, multilayer, and thin films, and by end users, including consumer electronics and optoelectronics, transportation, industrial equipment, medical, and others. Regional analysis covers Asia-Pacific (China, Japan, South Korea, and the rest of APAC), Europe (Germany, France, Italy, and the rest of Europe), North America (U.S., Canada, and Mexico), and the Rest of the World (RoW). RoW includes South America, and the Middle East, and Africa. This report is especially relevant now due to growing global concerns over the health and environmental risks associated with lead, a key component in traditional PZT piezoelectric materials. As awareness of these risks increases, industries and researchers are actively seeking eco-friendly alternatives. Additionally, stricter regulations under frameworks like REACH and ROHS are accelerating the shift toward lead-free technologies. These regulatory pressures, particularly in the European Union, are expected to gradually phase out lead-based materials in specific applications, making the development and adoption of lead-free piezoelectric ceramics a timely and critical focus. The factors driving the market's growth include: Adverse Health and Ecological Impacts of Lead-Based Piezoelectric Materials: Due to lead toxicity, lead-based ceramics pose serious health risks and environmental hazards. Exposure can lead to neurological and developmental issues, while improper disposal contaminates ecosystems. These dangers are pushing industries to adopt safer, lead-free alternatives. Favorable Regulatory Environment: Global regulations like the EU's RoHS and WEEE directives restrict the use of hazardous substances, including lead, in electronics. These policies encourage manufacturers to shift toward environmentally friendly materials, creating a supportive market for lead-free piezoelectric ceramics. Increasing Applications for Lead-Free Piezoelectric Ceramics: Advances in material science have expanded the use of lead-free ceramics across sectors such as consumer electronics, healthcare, automotive, and industrial automation. Their growing versatility and safety make these materials a preferred choice for modern applications. Request a sample copy of the global market for lead-free piezoelectric ceramics report.
