CD Projekt's 'Cyberpunk 2' Sequel Enters Pre-Production, Won't Be Out Until 2030
The studio made the announcement as part of its latest financial announcement, which also highlighted the latest sales milestone for the original game's expansion, Phantom Liberty , which has sold 10 million copies to date. 'Given these developments, it fills me with even greater satisfaction to announce another important stage in our work on the next big game in this franchise,' said chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz, 'Several weeks ago, Cyberpunk 2 — previously referred to as Project Orion — wrapped up its conceptual phase and entered pre-production. Congratulations to the entire team!'
While this reveal might be exciting, fans are in for a long wait, as the game is still far from being released. When responding to a question suggesting that the sequel will follow the original's development timelines, thus placing its release date somewhere between late 2030 and early 2031, Nowakowski did not disagree.
'I can reiterate in a way what I said in one of the previous calls, which was basically that our journey from pre-production to final release takes four to five years on average,' he explained. 'Having said that, keep in mind that each project is unique, and there are many variables that influence the final outcome. So I will not lead you into specific years, but yes, this is pretty much how it looks.'
For now, it looks like Cyberpunk 2 is still a long way off, as all of CD Projekt's focus is still firmly set on The Witcher 4 , which is also not due out anytime soon, with the highly anticipated RPG only due out in 2027, leading to speculation that it would target next-gen consoles.

Larian Studios Celebrates 2nd Anniversary Of 'Baldur's Gate 3' With Obscure Player Stats
It's common for video games to reveal player stats as part of milestone celebrations, but Larian Studios has switched things up for the second anniversary of Baldur's Gate 3 . While the studio previously highlighted major figures like the top three character classes per race and the most popular romance options, alongside fun nuggets of information (including the number of pats received for each pet and the percentage of players who had sex with Halsin's bear form), the focus is on obscure findings this time, which is as bizarre as it's in character. These achievements range from the percentage of players who defeated 20 opponents while drunk (2.07 percent) and defeating Gortash in Wyrm's Rock without activating any traps (3.87 percent, with more nimble-footed Steam players coming in at 4.37 percent) to 598 adventurers who adopted a child with Wyll. Elsewhere, 350 players re-specced Minsc into a Death Domain Cleric, and 6.24 percent managed to knock the dragon out of the sky midfight. There are also more general numbers — 1.1 million players have completed Baldur's Gate 3 in Tactician Mode, one of its highest difficulty settings, followed by almost half a million players in Honour Mode, which builds on Tactician Mode by adding tougher bosses, stricter rules, a single save slot, and more. Of the list, 4,647 players beat Honour Mode using only a Level 1 character, with 31,180 completing it as a Jack of All Trades. Here's a quick look at the stats: Additionally, Larian Studios celebrated 265 million mod downloads since last September's release of Patch 7 that introduced new evil endings cinematics, split-screen improvements, official modding tools, new Honour Mode Legendary Actions, and more. The RPG received its final major patch in April this year, rounding out an exceptional run with 12 new subclasses, cross-play, and a photo mode. Despite the overwhelming critical acclaim, studio head Swen Vincke confirmed that there are no DLC plans for the Dungeons & Dragons -inspired adventure, saying that it was the 'boring' option. 'It's boring, is really the honest answer,' he explained, 'We tried to be in the DLC business, talked about that with BG3 … there's just no passion… I mean, happy player, happy business, but you also need a happy developer for a happy player. What we're doing now makes developers way more happy.' Now that Baldur's Gate 3 has wrapped up, the team is 'deep in the trenches on [its] next thing', adding that the upcoming title is 'shaping up quite well' and that it is 'crazy-ambitious'. Details remain under wraps, but previous reports indicate that two RPG projects are in the works, and neither will be related to Baldur's Gate or Dungeons & Dragons in general. One of them, codenamed Excalibur , is set to be a departure from the studio's turn-based expertise, however. Guerrilla Games' Horizon Franchise Has Sold Over 38 Million Copies Worldwide
PlayStation and Guerrilla Games' Horizon franchise has surpassed 38 million copies sold, a milestone quietly revealed amid the former's ongoing legal dispute with Tencent's upcoming Light of Motiram . This news comes from a line of text tucked away within Sony's recently filed lawsuit against the Chinese technology conglomerate, which reads: 'The Horizon franchise is immensely successful and widely distributed. The Horizon franchise has sold over 38m copies globally. There would be no question that Tencent had access to the Horizon franchise when it created Light of Motiram , even if it had not expressly approached [Sony] with a request to license [its] intellectual property rights in the franchise.' Despite the current circumstances, this milestone is certainly a respectable one, especially considering that there are only two mainline games in the franchise thus far. The series kicked off in 2017 with the debut of Horizon Zero Dawn , which subsequently spawned a sequel, 2022's Horizon Forbidden West , alongside a 2023 VR exclusive title, Horizon Call of the Mountain, and the 2024 kid-friendly spin-off Lego Horizon Adventures . Both mainline titles were extremely well received, and while they were both initially PlayStation console exclusives, they were subsequently released on PC, with the first title also receiving a graphical remaster last year. The games largely centred on protagonist Aloy, an outcast of the primitive Nora tribe who ventures into the post-apocalyptic lands ravaged by mechanical beasts as she uncovers the truth behind her existence and fights to prevent the world from ending once more. With this new milestone, the Horizon franchise is slowly making its mark as one of Sony's best-selling IPs, although it's still nowhere close to its other juggernaut franchise, Santa Monica's God of War , with its 2018 reboot selling over 23 million units by the end of 2022 and its 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarök , selling 11 million copies within the first three months of its launch, meaning that the rebooted franchise as a whole has to date sold much more than Horizon's current milestone.
