Morgan set for key committee role with the MCC
The decision to recruit Morgan would appear a shrewd one by the MCC as it comes in the wake of an agreement to sell a 49% stake in London Spirit, the Lord's-based franchise in The Hundred, to a consortium of tech billionaires.Morgan's extensive experience of franchise cricket, in addition to his breadth of knowledge and interest in the whole game, is seen as a valuable asset to the MCC as it navigates a pivotal time in its history.Dublin-born Morgan captained England to 50-over World Cup glory in 2019 and is widely credited as playing a significant role an upturn in the fortunes of the country's limited-overs side. Morgan will also be consulted on some of the broader cricket issues facing the MCC.Among them would be the future of the Eton versus Harrow match, which is currently set to remain at the Home of Cricket until at least 2027.Morgan, who was made an honorary life member of the MCC in 2024, is also president of the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA).He previously sat on the MCC's world cricket committee, which was revamped earlier this year as a new global advisory board including International Cricket Council chair Jay Shah.Morgan is among four recommendations for key positions to be voted on by full MCC members at the AGM. It also includes a proposal for Julian Metherell, a partner at financial investment firm MW&L Capital Partners, to join the main committee.Former PCA chair Metherell led the MCC's negotiating team throughout the process of selling a stake in London Spirit, which brought in £145m. The MCC's main committee is chaired by broadcaster and former cricketer Mark Nicholas and includes new chief executive and secretary Rob Lawson and president Lord King, the former governor of the Bank of England.

Everton given boost in pursuit of Jack Grealish as Toffees step up efforts to sign playmaker - with Man City's £300,000-per-week outcast not part of Pep Guardiola's plan this season
Everton have been given a boost in their pursuit of Jack Grealish as the Manchester City outcast appears not to be part of Pep Guardiola 's plans this season. Daily Mail Sport previously reported that Fenerbahce were knocked back with an ambitious move for the England international. In June, we revealed how the Merseyside club were monitoring the situation with the former Aston Villa man, who would become a marquee signing as they mark their move to a new stadium. Now, an approach has been made over the possibility of a season-long loan switch for Grealish, who is thought to be on around £300,000-a-week at City. Those with knowledge of the season believe a move may not materialise until late in the window, given the belief that a number of clubs who are interested are yet to come forward. Should they manage to do so, persuading Grealish to make the move to Bramley-Moore Dock would be seen as a major play for Everton's new owners, the Friedkin Group. Manager David Moyes is known to be an admirer of the 29-year-old winger, branding him 'probably the best player in the Premier League at this time,' in 2021. Interest is likely to come from both home and abroad. Grealish has been told he can leave and was excluded from City's Club World Cup squad. He is keen to force his way back into the England squad ahead of next year's World Cup. Bayern Munich are known to be admirers, along with Newcastle United, although Toon manager Eddie Howe is not a fan of loans. Grealish arrived at City for a then-British record £100m in 2021, and his contract does not expire until 2027. Grealish did not feature in City's first friendly of pre-season and is highly likely to miss the weekend trip to Palermo ahead of his likely move away. He is thought to have been at the City Football Academy on Saturday as Pep Guardiola fielded two different line ups during a slender 1-0 victory over Preston North End in a behind closed doors match.

TEMPLEGATE'S TIPS TEMPLEGATE'S picks on Sunday are below. Back a horse by clicking their odds. LORNA B (5.45 Haydock, nap) She has a progressive profile and has yet to taste defeat in handicaps this summer. What makes her stand out at this level is her battling qualities in a finish.
