IND vs ENG Test: 'It ended up...' - Ben Stokes blames Edgbaston pitch for England's 337-run hammering
England captain
Ben Stokes
on Sunday blamed the Edgbaston surface for his team's 337-run loss in the second Test against India in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. India defeated England by 337 runs to level the five-match Test series 1-1.
The third Test between the two sides will be played at Lord's, starting on July 10.
'To be honest, it probably ended up being more of a subcontinent pitch as we got deeper and deeper into the game,' Stokes told the BBC.

'There was certainly a little bit in it to start off with. I think we exposed that very, very well early on. But then just as it got deeper and deeper, it became a real tough slog for us.
'Obviously with the Indian attack in the conditions they are used to, they knew sort of how to expose those conditions better than us.
And that can happen sometimes. It's nothing to be too disheartened about, you know. We can take being out-skilled.'
🗣 "It ended up being more of a subcontinent pitch."
Ben Stokes thinks the Edgbaston pitch didn't really suit his England side.

At the post-match presentation, Stokes pointed towards two situations where England lost the match, as they conceded a huge 180-run lead to India and allowed their batters, including skipper Shubman Gill, to make gigantic scores.
Shubman Gill, Gautam Gambhir shut critics with thumping win over England
'Two moments — having them 200-5 and not being able to burst them open after a good start with the ball.

And being 80-5. It was going to be tough to scrape it back from there. You look back at 200-5 — if we were able to burst them open quicker, things could have been different,' he said.
Asked if he's concerned about England's bowlers struggling to fire collectively, Stokes stated, 'I wouldn't say it's a concern. We ran in, we tried everything, we changed plans, but when a team's on top of you — and India are a class team — it's hard to change the momentum. Shubman Gill had an unbelievable performance.'

Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz: Tennis stars' relationship timeline so far
Tennis fans are buzzing—and not just about rankings. Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz, two of the sport's brightest young stars, have sparked rumors that their bond may be more than just professional. The pair are set to join forces in the mixed doubles at the US Open this August, but their off-court chemistry is what's drawing headlines. According to multiple reports—including Daily Mail and The Sun—Emma was spotted cheering Carlos on at the Queen's Club Championships, not once but twice: on Thursday and again on Saturday, the day before he won the title. Witnesses claim her car pulled in just minutes after Carlos arrived with his team. Inside, the pair were seen laughing, chatting, and appearing incredibly at ease around each other. 'It's been the talk of Queen's,' one source revealed. 'He was even seen at her hotel earlier in the week.' 'Just good friends'… with history Source: X Emma has addressed the rumors with a coy smile and the classic line: 'We're just good friends.' But her words, while diplomatic, haven't convinced fans or the media. During a BBC interview after her second-round Wimbledon win, the topic took an unexpected twist when she was told pop star Olivia Rodrigo had been in the Royal Box watching her. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Tabletă Puternică la Preț Incredibil - Oferta Limitată! LUO Cumpără acum Undo Emma laughed and replied, 'She's got some great heartbreak songs... If you're ever going through it, she's the one. ' Then came the punchline: 'I wouldn't know though, of course not.' It was a subtle but telling moment—flirtatious, fun, and very aware of the speculation swirling around her. The British starlet has been relatively private about her relationships. Her last known romance was with billionaire heir Carlo Agostinelli, a former footballer and the son of businessman Robert Agostinelli. The two appeared together at high-profile events like Paris Fashion Week and enjoyed luxe getaways in Greece and Mexico before quietly parting ways and unfollowing each other online. But with Carlos, things feel different. Their connection dates back to their breakout tournaments in 2021—Emma's fairy-tale run at Wimbledon and US Open, and Carlos's rise through the ranks. 'We've known each other for years,' she shared. 'Wimbledon 2021 was the first time I started getting to know him… we kept in touch through the US Open. It's nice to still have that bond.' 'I am looking for someone' As for Carlos, he's made no secret of the fact that he's single—and open to love. Speaking candidly in an interview earlier this year, the 21-year-old said: 'No, I am single. I am looking for someone. It can be difficult as a tennis player to meet the right person because you are traveling all the time.' Despite a hectic tour schedule, the reigning French Open champion has still found time to dominate on court, entering the Round of 16 at Wimbledon this Sunday, July 6, as the two-time defending champion. While Emma's denials appear firm, the timing of their doubles partnership, their shared past, and their ease around each other continue to fuel speculation.

AB de Villiers makes massive MS Dhoni revelation on his birthday: 'It was very difficult to ...'
MS Dhoni of India (Photo by) South African cricket legend AB de Villiers commemorated former India captain MS Dhoni 's 44th birthday by remembering him as an intimidating opponent with a remarkable career. MS Dhoni's international cricket journey was marked by his captaincy success in winning three major ICC tournaments - the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy, alongside various bilateral and continental achievements. "It was very difficult to plan for MS Dhoni. When he was on song, nothing worked. Later on, we discovered that sometimes you could get away with wide deliveries with the seam, especially in the back end of his innings. We tried it. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't," De Villiers said on JioHotstar's '7 Shades of MS Dhoni'. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "The guy's class - not many game plans worked against him. I have a lot of respect for him and his achievements throughout his career. He was definitely an intimidating player to play against. What a fantastic career he had." Former India selector and cricketer Kiran More shared his initial impressions of Dhoni, noting the unique spark he saw in the wicketkeeper-batsman. "At that time, if you looked at our batting order, you had Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman - all these players. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? But I felt we needed an aggressive player, who could come and hit fours and sixes, utilise the Powerplay, make runs in 15 overs, and also in the middle overs," he added. "We were looking for someone who could hit sixes and boundaries — that kind of aggressive player wasn't visible. See, the top players were all of one mold. But MS Dhoni's strength — that power-hitting — we were looking for a different kind of player like that, to balance the batting order. Poll Do you believe MS Dhoni's captaincy style has influenced future cricketers? Yes, significantly Yes, to some extent No, not really Not sure "If you want to make 100 in 10 overs, you can. We gave many wicketkeepers chances, but the spark we saw in Dhoni — I felt this boy is something special, something different. We were taking chances. He was raw. From there, we picked him and gave him a chance." Dhoni was recently inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame alongside Hashim Amla, Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith, Daniel Vettori, Sana Mir, and Sarah Taylor. His international career statistics show 17,266 runs across formats, 829 dismissals as wicketkeeper, and 538 international matches played. "It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever," Dhoni remarked on achieving this feat. Although retired from international cricket, Dhoni continues to play in the Indian Premier League with Chennai Super Kings , leading them to five titles.

Coaches see room for improvement after a creditable show in World Boxing Cup
With the selection for the World championships approaching fast, the Indian boxers' performance in the second World Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan, has helped the coaches assess the situation well. Following the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decision to recognise a new international federation (World Boxing) in February and retain boxing in the 2028 Olympics, the newly-formed body has scheduled its first World championships in Liverpool from September 4 to 14. Building up for the elite competition, notwithstanding the fact that Boxing Federation of India is run by an interim committee due to issues over its pending elections, the country's boxers gave their best in Astana and would hope to gain crucial ranking points. While two-time World youth champion Sakshi Choudhary (54kg), Olympian Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) and multiple National champion Nupur Sheoran (80+kg) secured gold, Meenakshi (48kg) and Olympian Pooja Rani (80kg), who returned to action in the National championships, took silver and Sanju (60kg) claimed a bronze. Among men, Abinash Jamwal (65kg), Hitesh Gulia (70kg) and Jugnoo (85kg) won silver, while Nikhil Dubey (75kg) and Narender Berwal (90+kg) got bronze. While praising the boxers' performance in quality fields, featuring Olympians and professional boxers from top nations, women's head coach D. Chandralal said, 'We focused on discipline, endurance and strength. Initially, the girls found it difficult but got adjusted to it. We are on the right track, but we have a long way to go. 'Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar have joined the camp, Lovlina (Borgohain) will join. Parveen Hooda will complete her doping ban and will join.' Men's head coach Dharmendra Yadav expressed satisfaction over some boxers' showing. 'We tried to instil a positive attitude and self-belief in our boxers and focused on endurance. We need to work on a few areas,' said Yadav. Yadav informed that Worlds medallists Amit Panghal and Deepak Bhoria might not make it to the selection evaluation for the Worlds because of their recent performances. Of two other Worlds medallists, Mohammed Hussamuddin is on the path of recovery while Nishant Dev, who turned professional in the USA, may return to the National fold later.
