40 Kshatriya MLAs' 'family get-together' in Lucknow sparks political debate
The gathering, hosted by Kundarki MLA Ramveer Singh and Moradabad MLC Jaipal Singh Vyas, was described as a family get-together. Attending MLAs were given gifts, which included a picture of Lord Ram and a trident, sources added.Political observers noted the presence of rebel SP leaders such as Gauriganj MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh and Gosaiganj MLA Abhay Singh, both of whom have been active in Kshatriya community outreach. Sources indicated that the idea of such a meet had been in discussion for some time, as community leaders were looking to demonstrate unity and influence. While the organisers have insisted the event was purely social, the timing and scale of the meeting have led to speculation about a show of strength. Several MLAs, former MLAs, and ex-MLCs from opposition parties were also invited, but most prominent opposition leaders stayed away.Following the meet, the mood in the Assembly's Central Hall was light-hearted, with many leaders making jokes and passing comments about the gathering. Some MLAs involved in organising the event were teased by their colleagues, suggesting that the political implications had not gone unnoticed. In their defence, organisers maintained there was no political agenda. "It was only a family event, nothing more," said one of the hosts. With the Assembly session underway, the "Kutumba" meeting has become a talking point, particularly because it involved MLAs from multiple parties and came at a time when caste-based mobilisation remains a sensitive factor in state politics.Whether it leads to any coordinated political move remains to be seen, but the optics have already made an impact.- Ends

Larger conspiracy underway to manipulate voter lists, alleges Congress
The Congress on Saturday alleged that a larger conspiracy was underway to manipulate voter lists and suppress democratic participation and unveiled the route map of the party's upcoming Voter Rights Yatra, set to begin on August 17. Congress leader Pawan Khera. (ANI) 'Those who conspire will not back down, they will try to steal votes.. The way the game of adding and deleting fake votes was being played, BJP people have been caught red-handed. Now even ordinary citizens are providing evidence of vote theft…Today, the right to vote is being taken away from Dalits, the deprived, the oppressed, the exploited, and minorities; tomorrow, their participation will be taken away. A conspiracy was being hatched to attack the poor sections of this country, against which the people of the country have raised their voices,' Congress' media and publicity department chairman Pawan Khera said at a press conference in Delhi. According to the Congress, the Yatra will start from Sasaram in Bihar and cover 1,300 km across the state in 16 days. It will conclude in Patna with a public rally attended by leaders of the INDIA bloc. Taking aim at the Election Commission, Khera alleged that the institution was functioning as 'just a compartment of this double engine' and vowed continued resistance. 'We are fighting against this and will continue to do so in the future…The 'Voter Rights Yatra' will be a historic journey. This journey will prove to be a milestone in the fight for the existence of all of us,' he added.

BJP Plans Mega Show Of Strength Ahead Of Vice Presidential Election
New Delhi: The BJP is planning a mega huddle of its top leaders and closest allies next week, in a major show of strength before the upcoming Vice-Presidential election. All MPs of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have also been called for a Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday as the Parliament resumes for the second phase of the ongoing Monsoon session. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely address the MPs in the Parliament auditorium, sources said. While this second meeting of NDA MPs this Monsoon session appears to be routine, it assumes significance in the wake of the September 9 poll to elect the successor of Jagdeep Dhankhar. The former Vice President had resigned last month, citing his health, though his differences with the party had later emerged as a key indicator of his sudden decision. Besides the meeting of MPs, a mega huddle of top NDA leaders on the nomination day is expected to deliver a message of unity. This meeting will have all the Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Deputy Chief Ministers in the NDA fold in attendance. Different sets of nomination papers will be prepared, in which the BJP's allies will also be made proposers and supporters. The BJP has also called a meeting of its Parliamentary Board, its highest decision-making body for the legislature, at the party's headquarters on Sunday evening, during which it is expected to decide on its nominee for the Vice-Presidential election. It will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by senior BJP leaders, including party chief JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. PM Modi and Mr Nadda have already been authorised to pick the NDA's candidate at a meeting on August 7. Since then, a series of meetings have been held to discuss the names of the potential candidates. Top sources within the BJP have indicated that the next Vice President will be from the ruling party; someone who is strongly associated with the ideology of the party and RSS - unlike in the case of Mr Dhankhar, who was chosen only to appeal to the Jat voters. Besides, it must also give a regional and social message. The NDA has also started working on a strategy to get maximum votes in the favour of its candidate. A three-day workshop is being organised in the Parliament House to train the MPs on how to vote for the Vice-Presidential election. The government's strategists will also contact the opposition and try to build a consensus, though this is just a formality since the opposition has made it clear that it will field its own candidate. The Vice-Presidential election offers the first big opportunity to test the ruling alliance's strength in its third term, with the opposition trying to corner the government on all major issues. The BJP now treads cautious waters as its majority now heavily depends on key allies Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal United (JDU), while the Opposition appears united over the voter list row and other key issues. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which had earlier backed them in such elections, is unlikely to extend support after losing power to the BJP in Odisha.

Tushar Gandhi slams governors for acting as ‘Super Chancellors'
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and noted author, on Saturday lashed out at governors, alleging they have turned into super chancellors and misuse their position to obstruct the functioning of elected governments. He alleged that governors were being used as political tools of the Centre to weaken state administrations. Speaking at a national seminar organised by the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP) on challenges in higher education, Gandhi said, "Now the governors are acting as super chancellors. Those in BJP-ruled states enjoy retirement, while those in opposition states are tasked with making governance difficult," he remarked. Gandhi also came down heavily on the National Education Policy (NEP), warning that it would create enslaved minds by curbing rational thought and academic freedom. He argued that education had lost the freedom it once enjoyed, with teachers forced into a system that discouraged questioning. "If primary education itself is shackled, the future will suffer. We need state-oriented education models instead of a one-size-fits-all union policy," he said. Expressing concern over the decline of rational thinking in society, Gandhi said even educated people were falling prey to irrational claims spread on social media. Citing an example, he said, "One of my relatives, a former IIT professor, forwarded a photo of a circular rainbow calling it 'Brahma Danush'. Natural phenomena are now being projected as miracles to fuel irrational practices. These are propaganda tools of fascist forces."
