Crystal Palace turn to Arsenal target if Liverpool land Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace are planning for a world without Marc Guehi and that could involve signing Arsenal-linked defender Jeremy Jacquet. Guehi is into the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and Eagles chairman Steve Parish has admitted that the club will have to cash in on him unless he signs a new deal. Liverpool have long been keen on the England international but there remains a difference in the valuation of the centre-back between the Reds and Palace. The Independent report that the Premier League champions are only willing to pay £35m for Guehi, while the Eagles want £45m for their captain. Either figure appears to be a good feal for the defender who only turned 25 last month and may well be a starter for England at next year's World Cup. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. The transfer stand-off looks set to continue and one or both clubs will have to budge to do a deal before deadline day on September 1. Palace are looking at other options if Guehi is to leave, though, and Rennes defender Jacquet is high on their shopping list. The 20-year-old has quickly become very well regarded after an impressive loan spell at Clermont saw him recalled to Rennes, where he held down a first team place in the second half of last season. He has still only made 12 appearances in Ligue 1, but the 6'2″ centre-back has caught the eye, with Arsenal reportedly interested in signing him this summer. Reports in France stated that the young defender turned down an approach from the Gunners, preferring to continue his development at Rennes. That could mean that a Crystal Palace pursuit of the Frenchman is going to be very tricky, although the Eagles will be able to offer the chance to play much more regularly than the Gunners. The Independent's report suggests Rennes would want around £35m for Jacquet, with Palace doing their best to receive more for Guehi than they would have to pay for the talented youngster. After their brilliant FA Cup win and subsequent Community Shield success, there is every chance Palace could lose both Guehi and Eberechi Eze before the end of the transfer window. After links with Arsenal, Eze now looks likely to join Tottenham in the coming days for around £60m in total. The Eagles have approached Leicester City over a deal for 21-year-old Bilal El Khannouss as a replacement for the England forward. More Trending Despite the seemingly likely departures of Guehi and Eze, manager Oliver Glasner has tried to dampen transfer talk and insist both are committed to the Palace cause. 'Ebs and Marc, there has been a lot of noise about these two players in the last week,' Glasner told Match of the Day after an opening weekend draw with Chelsea. 'Everyone could see the performances against Liverpool and today, they were 100 per cent aligned with this team and Crystal Palace. 'As long as they are 100 per cent committed, they will play as they are so good. I watched them all week in training, I spoke to them almost daily, maybe more than my kids and wife, but it's been worth it to talk to them. They didn't just show they are great footballers, but they are great people and that's what I expected.' Newcastle ‘could be left powerless to stop Alexander Isak joining Liverpool thanks to little-known transfer rule'

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A LITTLE-KNOWN transfer rule allows Alexander Isak to effectively rip up his own Newcastle contract and join Liverpool for free. The Swedish striker is desperate to switch St James' Park for Anfield this summer and has gone on strike to force an exit. 3 A little-known rule could help Alexander Isak leave Newcastle Credit: Getty 3 Isak claimed 'trust is lost' with Newcastle in a shock statement In a bombshell statement released last night, Isak claimed promises had been "broken and trust is lost". Newcastle then hit back, denying his allegations and standing firm on their stance that he will not be sold. But the Toon could become powerless in the situation due to Fifa's Article 17. The law, which was recently changed thanks to ex-Premier League star Lassana Diarra, has made it easier for players to force a move that their club must accept. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL SPLASH THE REDDIES Liverpool approve record Isak transfer as Reds plot £165m double-deal Under previous rules, a player that terminated their own deal without a "just cause" had to pay compensation for breach of contract and his new club would be joint liable for the cash. The player could even be punished with a ban from playing or denied an international transfer certificate by Fifa to prevent them signing for a new team. After a dispute with Lokomotiv Moscow in 2014, Diarra triggered his own departure but ended up being denied an international transfer certificate and he therefore spent time as a free agent. He claimed it damaged his career and that the rules were ILLEGAL as it restricted the freedom of players to change jobs like ordinary people. BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS Diarra took the situation to court and got Fifa to tweak transfer laws, though he is currently back in court pursuing £56million in compensation. The new rules make it easier for players to get out their contracts. 'That bothers me' - Jamie Carragher tells Liverpool NOT to sign £150million Alexander Isak from Newcastle As for Isak, 25, his deal at Newcastle runs until 2028. A player that triggers Article 17 must do so within 15 days of the final match of the season. And it can only be done by stars who have had a full three years under contract at the club (two if they are aged 28). Once that happens a unilateral breach of contract has occurred and the player is FREE to join another side. If Isak remains at Newcastle for the entirety of this season, he could use Article 17 in June 2026. Liverpool would not pay a transfer fee because he would be a free agent. Newcastle will then be due compensation, with Fifa footing the bill. They would calculate how much they are owed based on Isak's wages, residual value on the Toon's books and cost of finding a replacement. Despite these rules, sports lawyers believe using Article 17 would be far from a straightforward process for a player. Premier League rules would still apply, which make a unilateral termination challenging. And it would start a huge legal battle that could rumble on for the rest of Isak's career. 3 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW

Xabi Alonso clarifies Rodrygo decision as Arsenal eye Real Madrid transfer compromise

Rodrygo was left on the bench for Real Madrid's La Liga opener but Xabi Alonso insists there's nothing to read into the decision as Arsenal continue to circle for the Brazilian Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso insists "nothing is happening" with Rodrygo despite leaving him on the bench throughout their opening win over Osasuna at the weekend. ‌ The Brazilian has been linked with the Bernabeu exit door all summer having fallen down the pecking order following Carlo Ancelotti's departure. The forward was only a peripheral figure throughout Real's Club World Cup effort and his selection woes have now continued. ‌ He was left out for the team's first La Liga game of the season, only furthering speculation that he will look to find a way out of the club. Alonso though maintains that he will look to Rodrygo later in this season, playing down the importance of leaving him out. ‌ The ex-Bayer Leverkusen boss told reporters: 'Rodrygo? Nothing is happening. I count on Rodrygo of course. It's just a game, this was my decision." Rodrygo's importance has appeared to dwindle in recent years with Kylian Mbappe now the main man in attack alongside Vinicius Jnr. Jude Bellingham is also a shining light. Brahim Diaz also got the nod over Rodygo at the weekend. Arsenal are among those to have been heavily linked with the Real star, who will not come cheap if he does move. Mikel Arteta had been looking to bolster his flanks in attack but their attention looks to have turned to the likes of Eberechi Eze. Given the financial demands of the deal the Premier League side had looked to pitch an agreement with the Spanish side that would've seen them take Rodrygo on loan this summer. Twelve months later they would then buy him permanently but that offer hasn't tempted Real. The player himself is only thought to be open to moving to Arsenal, Manchester City or Rodrygo. City's interest has cooled after they chose not to cash in on Savinho. The winger was potentially going to provide the funds to go after Rodrygo, but that situation has now been shelved after City bosses blocked a potential move to Tottenham. Liverpool have made it known that they want to bring in more firepower. The sales of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have left them lighter in attack but their attention is on securing a British-record deal for Alexander Isak.
