Bengaluru founder's 'strict 72-hour workweek' to promote a 'building mindset' sparks online uproar: 'Make employees partners'
Bengaluru entrepreneur
's post about rigid
office timings
has ignited fresh debate on
workplace expectations
, the price of ambition, and the elusive dream of building a globally recognised product from India.
10 AM to 10 PM, 6 Days a Week
Mohan Kumar, co-founder of mobile gaming startup
Matiks
, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to proudly describe the work ethic of his team. His words, however, left the internet sharply divided.
'We have strict office timing of 10 am - 10 pm and 6 days a week. Still, our team members work beyond 10 and on Sundays as well,' Kumar wrote, triggering waves of responses from both supporters and critics. In his post, he acknowledged the anticipated backlash but stood firm in his belief that such dedication was necessary to build India's 'first global product.'

'People will criticize this,' he added, 'but the reality is if we have to build the first global product built in India, we need everyone to be all in. Let's move out from job mindset to building mindset.'

Beyond a Paycheck
In a conversation with
Hindustan Times
, Kumar clarified that Matiks isn't just another tech startup — it's a movement. 'We don't look at our team as employees,' he said. 'We see them as founding members on a shared mission.'

According to Kumar, the company isn't built for survival or driven by monthly paychecks but is rather aiming to put India on the global product map. 'Of course, not everyone resonates with this mindset, and that's okay,' he added. 'But for those who do, this journey doesn't feel like a 'job.' It feels like chasing a dream.'
Netizens React: 'Build or Burnout?'
Kumar's post soon became a flashpoint for heated discussion around
hustle culture
and modern workplace values. Some applauded the startup's bold mission, calling for equity sharing to complement the commitment. 'I am 100% with this approach,' one user wrote. 'But if you want employees to move from job mindset to building mindset, make them partners in business.'
Others, however, raised concern about sustainability and
mental health
. 'There is absolutely no loyalty,' said a user. 'Companies will let go of employees at the first sight of trouble… A good
work-life balance
is essential to success.'
Another user added, 'Hard disagree, almost no one can sustain peak IQ bandwidth beyond 40-50 hours a week… Anything beyond that is slop.'

Kumar tried to argue that work pressure isn't inherently bad — but only when one is passionate about the task at hand. 'Work pressure comes when you work for something that you don't like,' he replied.
Kumar's statement has revived a lingering conversation about ambition versus wellbeing, particularly in India's fast-paced startup culture. While some admire the vision of creating a world-class product from Indian soil, others caution against celebrating overwork at the expense of long-term creativity and mental health.

Adani NCD issue: Adani Enterprises launches Rs 1,000 crore NCD offer at 9.3% yield, aims to repay debt
Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), the flagship company of the Gautam Adani-led conglomerate, has announced a public issue of secured, rated, listed, redeemable non-convertible debentures (NCDs) worth up to Rs 1,000 crore, offering yields of up to 9.3% per annum. The NCD issue, which opens for subscription on July 9 and closes on July 22, marks AEL's second such offering to the public. The base issue size is Rs 500 crore, with a green-shoe option to retain oversubscription up to an additional Rs 500 crore, PTI reported. In a statement on Sunday, AEL said the NCDs will be available in tenors of 24, 36 and 60 months, and will offer a range of interest payment options including quarterly, annual, and cumulative structures across eight series. Each NCD has a face value of Rs 1,000, with a minimum application requirement of Rs 10,000. "This new issuance follows the strong market response to AEL's debut NCD offering, which witnessed capital appreciation for debt investors after a rating upgrade within six months — reflecting the group's consistent delivery and financial robustness," said Jugeshinder 'Robbie' Singh, Group CFO, Adani Group. "As the incubator of India's most critical energy and transport utility platforms — including Adani Ports & SEZ, Adani Energy Solutions, Adani Power, and Adani Green Energy — AEL is successfully scaling the next generation of infrastructure businesses across airports, roads, data centres, and the green hydrogen ecosystem," Singh added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The proceeds from the issue will be used primarily for debt repayment, with at least 75% earmarked for prepayment or repayment of existing borrowings, and up to 25% for general corporate purposes, the company said. AEL's latest offering comes amid a softening interest rate cycle, offering retail and non-institutional investors a relatively high fixed-income alternative. According to the company, the NCDs are priced competitively when compared with similarly rated debt and fixed deposits. The NCDs have been rated 'CARE AA-; Stable' by CARE Ratings and '[ICRA]AA- (Stable)' by ICRA. CARE Ratings had first upgraded AEL's credit rating in February 2025 and reaffirmed it in June 2025, while ICRA assigned its rating in March and reaffirmed it last month. Instruments with this rating are considered to carry a high degree of safety regarding timely servicing of financial obligations and very low credit risk. AEL's first public NCD issue in September 2024 — a Rs 800 crore offering — was fully subscribed on day one. The company claims it remains the only non-NBFC corporate offering listed debt products tailored for retail investors. The lead managers for the issue are Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd, Trust Investment Advisors Pvt Ltd and Tipsons Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd. Who is Vaibhav Taneja? Meet Indian-origin Tesla CFO selected by Elon Musk as Treasurer for his America Party
Indian-origin Vaibhav Taneja, Tesla's Chief Financial Officer, has emerged as a pivotal figure in Elon Musk's newly announced political venture, the America Party (AMEP). A recent Federal Election Commission (FEC) filing revealed that Taneja is formally listed as both the Custodian of Records and Treasurer for Elon Musk's America Party, underscoring the depth of trust Musk places in his top financial lieutenant. According to his LinkedIn profile, Taneja has worked at Tesla for more than eight years, steadily ascending to the company's highest financial post: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) — August 2023 to Present; Based in Austin, Texas Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) — March 2019 to Present Corporate Controller — May 2018 to March 2019 Assistant Corporate Controller — February 2017 to May 2018 Before joining Tesla, he served a year at SolarCity, the solar energy company Musk co-founded, and nearly 17 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, advising Fortune 500 clients on financial controls and IPO preparation. Taneja is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Chartered Accountant, with deep experience in: US GAAP financial reporting SEC compliance and regulatory filings Internal controls and audit oversight Supporting C-suite leaders and boards of directors Guiding companies through IPOs and major public offerings Streamlining business processes to prevent revenue leakage His educational background includes a Bachelor of Commerce from Delhi University and chartered accountancy credentials from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Taneja has worked closely with Musk throughout Tesla's rapid global expansion. In his CFO and CAO roles, he is a trusted steward of Musk's companies' finances, including the preparation of official filings, audits, and compliance disclosures. His selection as Treasurer and Custodian of Records for the America Party signals that Musk is relying on Taneja's proven ability to handle high-stakes, highly scrutinized regulatory and financial matters. The filing comes after Elon Musk's fallout with Donald Trump, a former close ally. Musk announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he launched the America Party to challenge what he called America's 'one-party system.' 'Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,' Musk declared. 'When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.' On July 1, shortly after the tax and spending bill was passed in the Senate, Musk wrote on X, formerly Twitter: 'If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day. Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.' Musk, who once headed Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and was a major donor to Trump's 2024 campaign, broke ties after criticising Trump's tax and spending bill. The fallout has led to threats from Trump, who warned the government might reconsider its contracts with Musk's companies. Taneja's involvement in the America Party is the clearest sign yet that Musk intends to run the movement with the same tight circle of trusted executives who helped build Tesla and SpaceX. As Treasurer, Taneja will be responsible for handling political contributions, regulatory filings, and compliance with federal election laws, adding an unprecedented new dimension to his long career in corporate finance.
