Freaky Friday fans are just learning Jamie Lee Curtis almost wasn't in original film
It's been more than two decades since the body-swap comedy that captured the sometimes complicated bond between mothers and daughters became an instant hit. But Freaky Friday fans are just learning that the movie could have ended up very different as Jamie Lee Curtis wasn't actually the first pick to play the mother.
The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis, as mum Tess Coleman, who suddenly switches bodies with her teenage daughter Anna, who is played by Lindsey Lohan. It was released in 2003, and was a big commercial success, grossing over $160 million (£119 million) worldwide against a production budget of $26 million. (£19 million) Now, over 20 years later, fans are excited to return to the cinema to watch the highly anticipated sequel, Freakier Friday, which sees both Curtis and Lohan return to their roles.
While the two actresses impresse with their chemistry in the movie, fans were shocked to learn that Curtis almost didn't make the cut for the movie, as she jumped in just four days before filming started when the original actress for the role suddenly dropped out.
In a movie subreddit group on Reddit, one user asked about what movies still ended up being a success despite having a 'troubled development'.
In a comment to the post, one fan shared: "Annette Bening was cast to play the lead but dropped out the week before filming began, Tom Selleck also dropped out when he learned she was no longer a part of it."
"Jamie Lee Curtis was told about the role's existence and script only four days before she started shooting," they added.
To this, another person commented: "Props to Jamie Lee Curtis though. Woman read the script, had her hair dyed red, was ready in just 4 days. She's said in interviews that was one of if not her favorite productions ever."
Speaking with 9honey Celebrity about the matter, Curtis revealed that it was only a few days before filming began that she was contacted to be a part of the film.
"Another actress was doing the movie and she pulled out, I think, for personal reasons. I really never found out [why], and I had, like, four days before we started to work," she revealed.
However, despite the quick turnaround, she said she wasn't fazed at all about taking on the roll.
"I had no hesitation to do that. The only hesitation was I had a 15-year-old and a five-year-old at home," she said.
"So just the idea of jumping into a movie where all of a sudden I was going to go to work for three months on something, and just the management of my family life, was the only issue for me," the actress added.

Netflix fans can't get over Wednesday star Hunter Doohan's age after risqué scenes
The second instalment of Netflix's smash hit series Wednesday dropped earlier this month, with Jenna Ortega returning in the lead role. Her co-star Hunter Doohan's age has raised a few eyebrows Netflix fans are in awe after learning Wednesday star Hunter Doohan's age following risqué scenes in the second season which see him mostly shirtless. The first half of the latest instalment of the phenomenally popular horror comedy series landed on the streaming platform on August 6, with many fans having already binged it. The second half is expected to hit Netflix on September 3 and, much to many fans' delight, the show has already been renewed for a third season. Fronted by the perfectly cast Jenna Ortega in the titular role, the series follows Wednesday Addams' adventures at the gothic Nevermore Academy alongside a host of magical and mythical outcasts, each boasting quirky or fantastical powers. This sees Wednesday in a setting with peers more likely to understand and accept her morbid and macabre nature, instead of her being the odd one out like past iterations of the character. The first series followed a string of grisly murders, with Wednesday keen to identify the killer before learning her love interest, barista Tyler Galpin - played by Hunter Doohan - is behind them. Tyler has returned in the second season and, though it's assumed he's around the same age as schoolgirl Wednesday, many fans have been stunned to learn the actor is in his thirties. Hunter Doohan was born in 1994 and had a string of jobs while trying to make it as an actor in Los Angeles. The star's breakthrough role came in 2019, where he played the younger version of Aaron Paul's character in the first season of Apple TV+'s Truth Be Told. In 2020, he starred opposite Paul's Breaking Bad co-star and friend, Bryan Cranston, in the drama series, Your Honor. His youthful appearance - and his muscular physique - in the second series of Wednesday has gained attention on social media. On Reddit, one person shared a shirtless picture of the actor and simply penned: 'Can we please talk about Hunter Doohan in the new season of Wednesday?' In the comments section, one Netflix fan asked: 'How old is he?' Another replied: 'I know he looks so young, but is 31 years old and he is married to his husband for 3 years!!' A third said: 'I genuinely looked up his age before I allowed myself to thirst! He looks AMAZING in this season of Wednesday.' In another post about his age, one person said: 'Thirty?! Never would have guessed,' while another agreed: 'I never would have imagined him being 30." In response to the shirtless photo of him, another Reddit user said: 'I wasn't interested in the new season until now lol." And another said: 'Just watched this scene and whistled out loud when I saw him shirtless." Someone else confessed: 'I was waiting for the whole season to be out to binge it... now not sure I [can] wait.' Another added: 'This one scene made me lose focus in my work.'

Fans slam iconic 80s rockers for calling Trump appointment ‘great honour'
Kiss has infuriated fans by calling their inclusion in US President Trump's Kennedy Center Honours a 'great honour.' The 80s band has been named alongside soul singer Gloria Gaynor, country star George Strait, and actors Sylvester Stallone and Michael Crawford. This is the first Kennedy Center Honours since President Trump took over as chairman of the arts and culture center in Washington DC earlier this year. The highly controversial move has been pointed to as a sign of encroaching authoritarianism in the US, as Trump's first action was removing Biden-era appointees from the board and stacking it with loyalists. Yesterday, in a press conference to announce the honourees, Trump said: 'We'll be honouring one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Kiss. So Kiss was formed in 1973 in New York City by founding band members – and incredible people, by the way – Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss 'Kiss became a global phenomenon. Sold more than 100 million records worldwide and produced 30 gold albums and lots of other things. They produced, they made a fortune. And they're great people and they deserve it and they work hard and they're still. 'And they're going to do something very special. Kiss is going to be here a little bit before the show. I think they're gonna do something very special. We're gonna have a good time.' In response to the announcement, Gene Simmons told TMZ: 'Kiss is the embodiment of the American dream. We are deeply honoured to receive the Kennedy Center Honour.' 'From our earliest days, Kiss has embodied the American ideal that all things are possible and that hard work pays off,' adds Paul Stanley. 'The prestige of the Kennedy Center Honours cannot be overstated, and I accept this on behalf of the long legacy of Kiss and all of the band members who helped create our iconic band.' Many Kiss fans are extremely disappointed by the band's reaction, accusing them of capitulating to Trump's growing censorship of American arts. One Reddit thread saw users embroiled in a heated discussion, with @Mr_pootatohead writing: 'Is Gene going to lick Trump's boots now after saying, a couple of years ago, 'I knew him before he entered politics. Look what that gentleman did to this country and the polarization — got all the cockroaches to rise to the top. Once upon a time, you were embarrassed to be publicly racist and out there with conspiracy theories. Now it's all out in the open because he allowed it.' Would they be allowed to wear their drag-inspired costumes?' One user disagreed, writing: 'They should decline because you don't agree politically? I hate Trump personally, but the Kennedy Honours is just a PR event to celebrate American arts & culture.' In response @twoquarters posted: 'Indeed that is what it was but the accelerated movement into authoritarianism has seen a contamination of nearly all politically? No. I don't even know we are in an era where politics even works. It's far beyond that now.' X users are also displeased, with @LeeJohnson65 writing: 'Nope. I've been a KISS fan since the beginning but if they support this regime, I'm out.' @OxfordBuckeye agreed: 'Always thought Kiss were overrated garbage. This proves it.' Indeed, Trump made no mention of how critical members of the band have been of him in the past. In January 2021, as Trump sought to call the results of the 2020 election into question, Stanley described his actions as 'abhorrent,' 'mob boss behavior,' and 'a true danger to our democracy.' Four months earlier, Stanley also wrote on Twitter: 'REGARDLESS of who you support, it is incendiary & abhorrent for ANY candidate to say 'If I lose, the election is rigged. It's an insult to those who have fought for the free, safe elections we have and dangerously implies that citizens who don't share your views are the enemy.' More Trending Simmons also countered Trump's election fraud lies in 2020, posting that '60 courts in various states and 60 Judges (including Pres Trump appointed Judges) UNANIMOUSLY, and without exception, dismissed ALL allegations of a rigged that Includes Trump appointed US Attorney General Bill Barr!!!' Back in March, Trump outlined his intention to not only host the ceremony himself, but also to choose honourees who aligned with his political views. He said: 'We'll go slightly more conservative, if you don't mind, with some of the people/ There are people out there that would not be considered that are much bigger stars than the ones that were being honoured…In the past, I mean, these are radical left lunatics that have been chosen. I didn't like it. I couldn't watch it. And the host was always terrible.' View More » It seems that, according to fans, the members of Kiss are willing to put aside their beliefs for another moment in the spotlight. Got a story? 'Fry up breakfast' served at Harry Potter World sparks furious debate
'Fry up breakfast' served at Harry Potter World sparks furious debate A photo of a "sad looking" fry-up served at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida has sparked outrage among British breakfast fans American Friend went to Harry Potter world in the US and got this abomination. (Image: reddit) A thoroughly fry-up dished up at Harry Potter World has sparked considerable outrage amongst Britain's breakfast enthusiasts. Italians witnessing broken spaghetti, elderly Spaniards confronted with poorly cured jamón, French servers dealing with demanding customers - culinary stereotypes and subsequent fury abound. For Brits, nothing is more guaranteed to infuriate the average person than an American's attempt at assembling a Full Welsh/English/Scottish/Irish breakfast. Combine that with theme park pricing, and you've created the perfect storm for absolute rage. This precise scenario unfolded during a visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, where an inquisitive American chose to order a traditional fry-up. The Orlando Informer blog reports that such a breakfast commands $19.99 (£14.81). Images of the pitiful meal surfaced alongside concerns that the traditional fry-up faces mounting threats to its future. Have you experienced an exceptional or utterly disappointing breakfast whilst travelling?, reports the Mirror. On the small, black plate sits a pool of questionable-looking beans, which is spreading around and making contact with other breakfast components on several sides. These include clammy-appearing mushrooms and, on the opposite side of the dish, grey-hued scrambled egg. Crowning the mound of letdown sits not only a parched croissant, but a butter sachet. Pieces of bacon and black pudding seem to lie close by. Predictably, the responses the post generated were far from compassionate. "This has managed to insult both English and French breakfast culture simultaneously. "What's worse is how this was likely overpriced and tasted quite bland," one person wrote. Another Redditor was so incensed they targeted the culinary skills of most of the globe. "Genuinely, I've never seen good British food outside of the UK and Ireland," they wrote. "Whether it is a fry up, a roast dinner, a pie, or pasty, or even fish and chips, it's always bastardised and messed up and not very good. "Whenever you see fish and chips, it's also some poor imitation with a few fish goujons and thin-cut chips. No wonder people think we have bad food!". A specific concern for many is the butter packet, which seems to have been deposited randomly into the centre of the plate, to settle on whichever greasy breakfast element it happens to choose. "I'd be mildly frustrated trying to open the greasy/bean juice-covered butter packet," one person noted. Another asked: "Why is the butter just wazzed in the middle of the plate?" A significant source of controversy centres around the croissant, which has left numerous people baffled about why it's included and whether it complements the traditional British items alongside it on the plate. Article continues below "Personally, it looks great to me. You have a free croissant to pick up and throw at your server and then a full English to take with you when they kick you out," a commenter joked.
