Rapper 50 Cent offers NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani $258K to get lost: ‘Where did he come from? I'm telling Trump'

American rapper 50 Cent is ready to cough up a big amount to get rid of NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, even offering a one-way, first-class ticket out of the state. The India-origin assemblyman, a vocal left-winger, recently caught heat over his tax-the-rich plan. The Big Apple mayoral hopeful went as far as name-dropping 50 Cent while pushing his agenda. That didn't sit well with the Queens-born rapper, who reposted the clip on Instagram, fired back asking, 'Who is this guy? Where did he come from?' and warned he's 'telling Trump' what this Democrat's up to. The video referenced, comes from The Breakfast Club podcast, where Mamdani pitched taxing corporations raking in millions in profit.

Mamdani, who recently beat Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary, made his podcast appearance earlier this month. There, he spoke about his plan to raise $10 billion for the city by increasing corporate taxes and imposing a 2% tax hike on New York's top 1% earners, meaning all those making over $1 million a year. 'We're talking about corporations that are making millions of dollars, not in revenue, but in profit,' Mamdani said during the June 11 interview. 'And the second is taxing the top 1% of New Yorkers. We're talking about people who make a million dollars a year or more, taxing them just by a flat 2% tax increase,' he said on one of the most listened-to radio shows in the state. Adding that his goal is to 'Trump-proof' NYC by funding things like public transport and small business support, he said, 'I know if 50 Cent is listening, he's not going to be happy about this. He tends to not like this tax policy, but I want to be very clear, this is about $20,000 a year.'
Now, weeks later, the rapper clapped back on Instagram. Sharing the video, he wrote, 'Where did he come from? Whose friend is this? I'm not feeling this plan. No. I will give him $258,750 and a first-class one-way ticket away from NY. I'm telling Trump what he said, too!'

That 'telling Trump' part was a cheeky callback to Jackson's most recent comment about 'ratting' on Diddy to Trump, after reports claimed that the President has not ruled out pardoning Diddy, who's currently caught up in a sex trafficking and racketeering investigation. For the unversed, 50 Cent has been vocal about taxes, and in 2020, even sided with Trump when Biden spoke about tax hikes that would've meant 62% taxes for top earners in NYC. At the time, 50 posted: 'WHAT THE F–K! (VOTE FOR TRUMP) IM OUT. F–K NEW YORK. The KNICKS never win anyway. I don't care Trump doesn't like Black people. 62%—are you out of your f–***ing mind?'

Meanwhile, Mamdani is also facing backlash from the Indian diaspora and prominent figures in NYC after his old tweets, taking sharp aim at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, religion, and Indian democratic institutions, resurfaced. Mamdani, the self-proclaimed democratic socialist, ousted Cuomo after securing 43.5 percent of the vote, with 90 percent of ballots counted. If he wins, he would be New York's first Muslim mayor.

Stock Market Hits 9-month High As Sensex Surges Past 84,000, Nifty Nears 25,650

Mumbai: The Indian stock markets ended on a strong note on Friday, with benchmark indices touching a nine-month high. Investors were in a positive mood as tensions in West Asia eased amid reports of a 'great' India-US trade deal possibility, thus lifting market confidence and encouraging buying. The Sensex climbed 303.03 points, or 0.36 per cent, to close at 84,058.90. It traded within a range of 83,645.41 to 84,089.35 during the day. This is the fourth straight session of gains for the benchmark index, marking a steady upward trend. The Nifty also saw a similar rise, gaining 88.80 points, or 0.35 per cent, to finish the day at 25,637.80. It moved between 25,523 and 25,654 in intra-day trade. "The Nifty continued to move higher as investor confidence remained strong. With no major resistance seen before 25,750–25,800, the index may continue its upward trajectory,' Rupak De of LKP Securities said. A buy-on-dips strategy appears more appropriate at current levels, following the sharp rise over the past few days. On the downside, support is placed at 25,500; a break below this level could lead to consolidation, he added. Earlier, the Sensex had touched the 84,000-mark in October 2024, while the Nifty had reached 25,639 on October 3 last year. Broader markets followed suit. The Nifty Midcap100 index rose 0.27 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap100 jumped 0.91 per cent -- showing that investor interest was strong even beyond large-cap stocks. Except for the Nifty Consumer Durables, Realty, IT, and FMCG indices, all other sectoral indices on the NSE closed in the green. The Nifty Oil & Gas index outperformed both its sectoral peers and the benchmark indices, ending 1.19 per cent higher. Volatility also cooled off, with the India VIX -- the fear gauge -- slipping 1.60 per cent to settle at 12.39. This suggests that investors are feeling more confident about market stability in the near term.

What Makes Zohran Mamdani, New York Mayor Candidate So Appealing To Voters

Zohran Mamdani has shaken up New York politics by winning the Democratic nomination for mayor. The 33-year-old Indian-origin assemblyman defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday. "Tonight, we made history," he told supporters after his win. "I will be your Democratic nominee for the mayor of New York City." Powered by a bold, left-wing agenda and grassroots energy, here are five key pillars of his platform that have fuelled his rise: Housing And Rent Reform Housing is Zohran Mamdani's priority. He promises an immediate freeze on rent-stabilised units and stricter enforcement against negligent landlords. His boldest proposal is the creation of a Social Housing Development Agency to build 2 lakh publicly owned affordable homes over the next decade, funded by higher taxes on millionaires and large corporations. "It's a city that is in danger of losing that which makes it so special," Mr Mamdani said at a BBC event. For Working-Class New Yorkers Zohran Mamdani has promised to make New York more affordable by taxing the rich. His fiscal plan includes a 2 per cent income tax on individuals earning over $1 million and increased corporate taxes, measures he says will raise $20 billion. These funds would be funnelled into universal childcare (starting from six weeks of age), free public college, fare-free public transit, and subsidised grocery stores in low-income areas. He has also called for a $30 minimum wage by 2030. Free Public Transit And Climate Action Mr Mamdani's transit plan is one of the most ambitious in recent history. He advocates making all Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) buses permanently free and freezing subway fares. He pairs this with a pro-climate transportation vision, i.e, congestion pricing, expanded bike lanes, and better cross-borough transit access to fight car dependency and reduce emissions. Community-Centered Public Safety Rejecting the traditional police-heavy approach to public safety, Mamdani proposes creating a new Department of Community Safety. This agency would focus on housing, mental health, and outreach rather than arrests and enforcement. He also calls for an 800 per cent increase in funding for anti-hate programs, specifically targeting Islamophobia, antisemitism, and anti-Asian hate crimes. Rights For Immigrants And LGBTQ+ Communities As the son of Ugandan-Indian immigrants, Zohran Mamdani's platform puts immigrant and marginalised communities front and centre. He has pledged full sanctuary protections for undocumented New Yorkers, expanded legal aid and improved language access, particularly for Muslim and South Asian populations. He also champions expanded gender-affirming care, the creation of an LGBTQIA+ Affairs Office, and protections against discrimination.

Israelis Unnerved By Trump's Vow To Save Netanyahu From Corruption Trials

President Donald Trump's call for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's corruption trial to be thrown out has plunged the American leader into one of Israel's most heated debates, unnerving some in its political class just days after they unanimously praised his strikes on Iran. Trump's social media post condemning the trial as a "WITCH HUNT," and his vow that the United States will be the one who "saves" Netanyahu from serious corruption charges, came just two days after he called off an Israeli bombing raid in Iran to preserve a ceasefire. Both were dramatic interventions in the affairs of an ally that previous U.S. administrations had always insisted was a sovereign nation that made its own decisions. Now the one leader nearly all Israelis seem to support has fully embraced the one who most divides them. "With all due respect for Trump, he is not supposed to interfere in a legal process in an independent country," opposition leader Yair Lapid told Israeli media. Trump says trial should be cancelled In an extended post on his Truth Social site, Trump condemned Netanyahu's trial in the same language that both he and Netanyahu have long used to describe their legal problems. Both contend they are the victims of witch hunts by hostile media, crooked law enforcement and political opponents. "I was shocked to hear that the State of Israel, which has just had one of its Greatest Moments in History, and is strongly led by Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing its ridiculous Witch Hunt against their Great War Time Prime Minister!" Trump wrote, using a common nickname for Netanyahu. "Bibi Netanyahu's trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero, who has done so much for the State. ... It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu," Trump wrote. Netanyahu's allies took to social media Thursday to praise Trump and a spokesperson from Netanyahu's Likud party translated the post into Hebrew. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, a former rival who once challenged Netanyahu over the corruption charges, only to join his Cabinet last year, said the trial was harming the state: "When the president of the United States calls for an annulment of the trial or for a pardon - can anyone say that he is wrong?" Netanyahu himself said in a post addressed to Trump that he was "deeply moved by your heartfelt support for me and your incredible support for Israel and the Jewish people." Netanyahu is a polarizing figure in Israel Netanyahu became the only sitting prime minister in Israeli history to be indicted when he was charged with fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in three separate cases after yearslong investigations accusing him of exchanging favors with wealthy political supporters. He took the witness stand for the first time late last year and his cross-examination began earlier this month. Several hearings have been postponed as he has dealt with the wars and unrest stemming from Hamas' Oct. 7, 2023, attack out of the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu portrays himself as a towering statesman fighting for Israel's very survival and accuses his political opponents of trying to achieve in the courtroom what they failed to do at the ballot box during his nearly unbroken 16 years in power - the longest of any Israeli leader. His critics accuse him of prolonging the war in Gaza and of leaving dozens of hostages languishing in Hamas captivity to cling to power and more effectively battle the allegations. Massive weekly protests against Netanyahu have been held for years. Trump seen as Israel's greatest US friend Trump is seen by Netanyahu - and many Israelis - as the greatest friend they have ever had in the White House. He has lent unprecedented support to Israel's claims to territories seized in war, he brokered the Abraham Accords with four Arab nations in his first term and over the weekend he ordered direct strikes on Iran's nuclear program, which Israel views as an existential threat. Still, even some staunch supporters of Netanyahu and Trump seemed a bit unnerved. Simcha Rotman, a lawmaker from the far-right Religious Zionist party and one of the architects of Netanyahu's controversial judicial overhaul, wrote on X that Netanyahu's trial "may be an example of an accumulation of many faults" of the justice system. "Still, it is not the place of the president of the United States to interfere in legal proceedings in Israel."
