Zagreb [Croatia], June 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday shared highlights from his visit to Croatia, where he held discussions with his Croatian counterpart Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and received a ceremonial welcome in the capital city of Zagreb.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi posted a series of updates on his engagements during the visit. He wrote, 'Grateful to my friend, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic for the special gesture of showing me the city centre of the historical and culturally rich city of Zagreb.'
PM Modi also shared glimpses of the ceremonial reception accorded to him in Zagreb, saying, 'Pictures from the ceremonial welcome in Zagreb, Croatia.'
Following his meeting with the Croatian Prime Minister, PM Modi said the bilateral talks were comprehensive and spanned multiple sectors. He posted, 'Held productive talks with my friend, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic in Zagreb. Our talks covered many sectors, aimed at making the India-Croatia bond even stronger. We will be working closely in the fields of defence and security, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, IT, renewable energy, technology and more. Synergies in areas like semiconductors, shipbuilding, connectivity and more will also be greatly beneficial.'
Building on this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that India and Croatia will promote cooperation in several areas including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and information technology. He added that a Defence Cooperation Plan will also be formulated for long-term collaboration in the defence sector.
In a joint press statement with Croatia PM Andrej Plenkovic after their delegation-level talks, PM Modi said the two countries have emphasised joint research and collaboration between their academic institutions and India will share its space experience with Croatia.
PM Modi reached Croatia earlier in the day in the last leg of his three-nation visit.
'We have decided to speed up our bilateral relations three times in our third term. A Defence Cooperation Plan will be made for long-term cooperation in the defence sector, which will focus on training and military exchange as well as defence industry. There are many areas where our economies can complement each other. These areas have been identified,' he said.
'We have decided to increase cooperation in many areas to increase bilateral trade and create a reliable supply chain. We will promote cooperation in many important areas like pharma, agriculture, information technology, clean technology, digital technology, renewable energy,' he added.
The Prime Minister said there are also ample opportunities for Croatian companies in the port modernisation, coastal zone development and multi-modal connectivity being carried out under India's Sagarmala Project.
'We have emphasised joint research and collaboration between our academic institutions and centres. India will share its space experience with Croatia. Our centuries-old cultural relations are the root of mutual affection and goodwill... Today, we have decided to give more strength to our cultural and people-to-people relations. The duration of the MoU of Hindi Chair in Zagreb University has been extended till 2030. A cultural exchange program has been prepared for the next five years. The mobility agreement will be completed soon to facilitate the movement of people,' he said.
PM Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Croatian Prime Minister and the Croatian government for the enthusiasm, warmth and affection with which he has been welcomed.
'This is the first visit of any Indian Prime Minister to Croatia, and I have had the good fortune of it. India and Croatia are connected by common values like democracy, rule of law, pluralism and quality. It is a happy coincidence that last year the people of India have given me and the people of Croatia have given the opportunity to Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic to serve for the third consecutive time,' he said.
The Prime Minister was earlier accorded ceremonial welcome on his arrival in Croatia. (ANI)

In a symbolic gesture, both leaders viewed Turkish-controlled mountains near Nicosia — a pointed signal toward Turkiye, which had recently voiced support for Pakistan during the conflict with India. Meanwhile, this international trip marked Modi's first foreign engagement following Operation Sindoor, during which India launched precision strikes on terrorist facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

During his visit to Zagreb, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a 'special gift' from Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković: a reprint of Vezdin's Sanskrit Grammar. The gesture carries significant cultural significance, symbolising the centuries-old connection between India and Croatia. Vezdin's Sanskrit Grammar is the first printed Sanskrit grammar written in Latin. Israel-Iran Conflict: A group of students evacuated under Operation Sindhu from war-torn Iran raised issues about the buses provided by the Jammu and Kashmir government for their onward journey to Kashmir from Delhi. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah responded by saying that the issue has been looked into and that he has directed the officials to ensure that proper deluxe buses are arranged for the students. 'The buses that have been provided are in such bad condition that even animals will not travel in them. We can't go in such buses, and our safety could have been compromised. We are here (in Delhi) and for that we are thankful to the central government as they have evacuated us smoothly, we faced no problem till here, but we are having a problem here now,' a student was heard telling news agency ANI. The about 800 km road distance from Delhi to Kashmir via Jammu typically takes 18 to 22 hours, depending on traffic, weather, and road conditions. The first flight carrying about 110 students, who were evacuated to Armenia from war-torn Iran, landed in Delhi in the early hours on June 19. Of these 94 students are from Jammu and Kashmir These students in Tehran were moved out of the city, 110 of them crossing the border into Armenia, through arrangements made by the Indian Embassy on June 17 under 'Operation Sindhu' amid escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. From Delhi these students from Jammu and Kashmir would be transported to Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu and Kashmir State Tourism Corporation (JKSRTC) buses. But the students said that the condition of the buses was bad "The buses that have been provided are in such bad condition that even animals will not travel in them. We can't go in such buses, and our safety could have been compromised. We are here (in Delhi) and for that we are thankful to the central government as they have evacuated us smoothly, we faced no problem till here, but we are having a problem here now," another student told news agency ANI. The Chief Minister has taken note of the request of the students evacuated from Iran regarding the quality of buses arranged to transport them from Delhi to J&K, the CM office informed in a post on X. The CM office said the government is making transport arrangements to ensure their smooth journey home, which will be in place within the next few hours. 'The Resident Commissioner has been tasked with coordinating with the JKRTC to ensure proper deluxe buses are arranged,' it said. The evacuated students travelled from northern Iran by road to the Armenian capital, Yerevan, under the supervision of Indian missions in Iran and Armenia. After reaching the Armenian capital, the students soon departed Yerevan on a special flight at 2:45 pm on June 18. They arrived in New Delhi in the early hours of June 19 as part of the initial stages of Operation Sindhu, the MEA said. The deadly conflict between Iran and Israel entered its sixth day on June 18, with both sides widening their attacks. Israeli strikes on Iran have so far killed at least 639 people and wounded 1,329 others, a human rights group was quoted as saying by the news agency AP. The buses that have been provided are in such bad condition that even animals will not travel in them.
