Cops summon PSM members over LGBT event
PETALING JAYA : Police have summoned two members of PSM for questioning over a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) programme planned by the party's youth wing.
Lawyer Rajsurian Pillai told FMT that the pair would give their statements in Bukit Aman at 3pm today.
Malaysiakini meanwhile reported him as saying the investigation is being carried out by the classified crimes investigation unit under the criminal investigation department (CID).
Yesterday, Bukit Aman CID director Shuhaily Zain said the number of reports received on the event had risen from 21 to 188.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the case is being probed under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, hatred or ill will on the grounds of religion, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities.
Last week, religious affairs minister Na'im Mokhtar urged PSM to cancel its plans for the workshop, themed 'Pride Care: Queer Stories & Sexual Health Awareness'.
He said the organisation of such a programme, even if held behind closed doors, clearly challenged societal norms and the religious values upheld by the majority.

Sultan Ibrahim departed from Subang Air Base at 8.55 am (Malaysian time) and is expected to arrive in Moscow on Tuesday. MOSCOW: Moscow is ready to welcome the arrival of His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia who will begin his maiden state visit to Russia from tomorrow until Aug 10. Malaysian ambassador to Russia Datuk Cheong Loon Lai said Sultan Ibrahim expressed hope that the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday could open a new chapter in Malaysia-Russia bilateral relations. "His Majesty also expressed hope that the two leaders can hold productive discussions, especially on matters of mutual interest," he told Bernama here. Cheong said Sultan Ibrahim also admired the historical and technological values in Russia, and had even established many interactions with the country in the fields of trade and investment since His Majesty's reign as the Sultan of Johor. "His Majesty also shares the same interests as President Putin, such as horse riding," he said. This visit at the invitation of President Putin is considered historic and meaningful because it is the first state visit by a Malaysian Head of State to Russia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1967. Homeless man fed chicken bones: ‘influencer' sorry for PR stunt
Instagram user @aluk_77 asked Malaysians to forgive him and his two friends who were also in the video. PETALING JAYA : A social media user has apologised for a publicity stunt in which he and two others purportedly gave a homeless man a packet of rice with chicken bones. The apparent social media influencer said the homeless man had agreed to help them with the video and that he already knew he would be given rice with chicken bones purely for the video. In a video, Instagram user @aluk_77 maintained that they did not actually give the man just chicken bones but had bought him a full meal with two pieces of fried chicken. He said their intention was to post content on being more charitable, adding that this was supposed to be the first of several videos. 'But we did not expect the video to cause such a huge uproar, and this is our mistake. We are sorry. 'We had packed the complete meal from the start, which we gave him later. He knew about it from the beginning. 'We are sorry. We will be more sincere in giving back to society and produce more meaningful videos. We hope everyone will forgive us, we're sorry,' he said. The initial video, which has since been deleted, sparked backlash from netizens, with some even calling for an investigation to be launched against them. At the time of writing, he had about 140,000 followers on Instagram.
