Oasis gigs and Edinburgh Festival bring two million onto Scotland's railways
Last week was the busiest week of the year for Scotland's rail network - with two million people travelling by train as music legends Oasis rocked Murrayfield.
The Edinburgh Festival also brought hundreds of thousands of revellers to the capital by train, as ScotRail hailed the importance of concerts to the economy.
It comes ahead of more big shows as AC/DC are also set to play at the home of Scottish Rugby, with a gig scheduled for Thursday of this week.
Around 328,000 people travelled with ScotRail last Friday, August 8, 2025, which was 19 per cent more passengers than on the same day last year.
A further 327,000 used the trains on Saturday, which was up 12 per cent on 2024. Those are the busiest days on the ScotRail network since December 14, 2024.
That is traditionally the weekend when most Christmas parties and nights out take place. The last of the Oasis concerts on Tuesday delivered another boost.
The number of Oasis fans heading to the reunion tour gigs by train means for the week from Friday, August 8, 1,995,000 people travelled on ScotRail services.

ScotRail laid on more services and seats for fans travelling to Murrayfield to watch the first Oasis gig in Scotland in 16 years - since the 2009 show at Murrayfield.
Extra services were also in place for the gig on Tuesday, August 12. Frontline staff got into the spirit of things by donning special Oasis themed bucket hats and posing for photos with customers.

The major events continue with rock superstars AC/DC playing at Murrayfield next week (Thursday, 21 August), and again extra services and more seats have been added.
David Ross, ScotRail Chief Operating Officer, said: "This week once again confirms that ScotRail is increasingly the travel mode of choice for people going to large events in Scotland.
"The fact that we've just delivered the busiest week of 2025 so far shows how important large concerts and events are to our business and the Scottish economy."
The COO added: "Our frontline staff once again delivered an excellent service for almost two million customers who chose to travel with ScotRail."

Haven Holidays is expanding the number of sites open during the festive period this year - with four new additions set to launch for Christmas and New Year breaks. Oasis star Noel Gallagher was left in shock when he was met with boos from the audience during the band's final gig at Dublin's Croke Park in Ireland this weekend. Noel Gallagher was met with brutal boos when he graced the stage for Oasis ' closing night in Ireland during their ongoing reunion tour. Noel, 58, was on stage for the second of two performances at Croke Park when he riled up the crowd. Prior to belting out Half The World Away on Sunday night on August 17, Noel enquired: "Anyone from Manchester?" However, he didn't expect the reaction as the audience began a chorus of boos. Stunned by the reception, he continued: "Excuse me, excuse me? Booing for the people in Manchester? Oh no, no, no, no, that won't do! Be nice!" It comes as Liam's eldest son Lennon chose to bypass the Dublin gigs and jet off to Ibiza, according to the Mirror. As Noel presented Half The World Away, he declared: "This is for the Royle Family – the real Royal Family," taking a dig at Windsor. Before the late Queen Elizabeth 's Platinum Jubilee, he mentioned he wasn't "anti-royal" but observed that the "appeal" of the monarchy had been "dwindling". "There are other things for people to be interested in," he remarked, before describing the monarchy as "a bit farcical." During an interview earlier in June, Peggy was questioned about playing a role in bringing Noel and Liam back together. She responded: "I was the instigator, yes. Liam Gallagher shares huge life update during Oasis' Croke Park concert
Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has made a candid admission about his sobriety as Oasis kicked off their first gig at Dublin's historic Croke Park on Saturday night Liam Gallagher made a 'sober' confession as Oasis launched their gig at Croke Park on Saturday night (August 16). After already taking Cardiff, Heaton Park, Wembley Stadium and Murrayfield Stadium by storm, the Gallagher brothers returned to Ireland for the first time since 2008. The last time Oasis performed in the country where they once had a holiday home was at Slane Castle, Ireland's largest music venue. Their two sold-out nights in Dublin were hosted at the home of the GAA, the sports federation responsible for Gaelic football and hurling. With over 160,000 tickets snapped up, many Irish fans were left disappointed in their attempts to secure the coveted tickets last year, reports the Manchester Evening News. Excitement was mounting throughout the city all day, with plenty of bucket hats being worn to combat the sun and high temperatures. It comes after Lennon decided to snub the Dublin concerts and jetted to Ibiza. Once again, The Verve's Richard Ashcroft served as the opening act, who managed to down a pint of Guinness in one gulp, choosing not to split the G. Following the same set-list used at all their gigs so far, Oasis kicked off their show with Hello, before diving into Acquiesce and Morning Glory. Liam donned his signature green Kangol, while Noel wore a crisp white shirt, as the younger brother announced 'Dublin City in the area'. Before performing Some Might Say, Liam took a moment to reflect on playing in Croke Park for the first time. He said: "I think I'm a Croke Park virgin! We haven't played here before, have we? All I do know [is] this [is] the soberest I've been in Ireland since I was about four or five or something like that," he said. Whilst Liam is correct in saying it was his maiden appearance at the venue, Noel had previously backed U2 with his High Flying Birds in 2017. Later during the evening, Liam challenged the audience's clapping and Mexican waves just moments after hailing them as 'lunatics'. "I never asked you to clap out of time or do a Mexican wave. But you've gotta turn around and put your arms up and jump up and down like you don't care. If I can do it, so can you," he quipped.
