Aamir Khan says he is a 'red flag', recalls the time when he made ex-wife Kiran Rao cry

Known across the industry as Bollywood's 'Mr. Perfectionist,' Aamir Khan has long captivated audiences with his dedication to his craft. Yet beyond the silver screen, the acclaimed actor has begun to reveal a more vulnerable side, one shaped by emotional lessons and deeply personal realizations. In a recent conversation with podcaster Raj Shamani, Khan opened up about the emotional turmoil that once defined his relationships, especially with filmmaker Kiran Rao , his former wife. Reflecting on their marriage, Aamir acknowledged how his relentless focus on work had often overshadowed the emotional needs of those around him. He described being a workaholic as one of the most damaging aspects of his personality. His intense professional drive often led him to disconnect from emotions, especially when hurt. During emotionally challenging times, he admitted to shutting himself off completely—avoiding conversations and retreating inward. This pattern became particularly evident during a disagreement with Kiran. Although the argument's details faded from memory, its emotional impact endured. Despite sharing a bed and a home, he distanced himself emotionally, offering only minimal responses. This emotional withdrawal eventually left Kiran in tears, desperately trying to bridge the silence, unsure how to reach him. Khan recognized that this behavior stemmed from emotional immaturity and an inability to process pain in healthy ways. At the root of his silence, he confessed, was ego—a defense mechanism that made it nearly impossible for him to take the first step toward reconciliation. Though he wanted to heal the rift, his internal struggle kept him frozen. It was only later, through therapy and introspection , that he came to terms with these behavioral patterns, which he now identifies as red flags in his emotional life. His introspection extended beyond his relationship with Kiran Rao. He also revisited the early days of his first marriage to Reena Dutta. Aamir revealed that he married Reena impulsively after knowing her for just four months. At 21, with Reena only 19, the decision was driven more by youthful emotion than rational thought. Looking back, he admitted that they should have taken more time before committing, as youthful passion often blinds one to future consequences. Currently, Aamir is involved with Gauri Spratt, a Mumbai-based salon owner and a longtime acquaintance. Although they have known each other for over 25 years, their bond developed more recently into a close relationship. Professionally, Aamir is set to return to cinema with Sitaare Zameen Par , a spiritual successor to his 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. The film, a remake of the Spanish movie Champions, draws inspiration from a real-life basketball team of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Aamir Khan finally breaks silence over his divorce from first wife Reena, reveals real reason

Bollywood's Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan is in the news these days for his upcoming film Sitare Zameen Par. The film is releasing on 20 June 2025, meanwhile, Aamir Khan has talked about his personal life. The superstar has told that he married Reena Dutta in a hurry, which was a big mistake of his life. Aamir Khan was asked on Raj Shamani's podcast what is the biggest mistake of his life. To this the superstar said- 'I have made many mistakes, not just one. But I think that it is because of those mistakes that I am what I am today, not only because of my success but also because of my mistakes.' Aamir Khan further said- 'Now I will say one simple thing like this, Reena and I got married very early. I was 21 years old and she was 18-19 years old. In fact, the first day that was legally possible for me to get married was after turning 21, you have to give a month's notice. So 30 days go there. So when I turned 21 on March 14, after that there was a one-month's notice, so it becomes April 14. But Saturday-Sunday was coming. So, the first day on which the marriage of Reena and me was legally possible was April 18.' The superstar further said- 'We got married on 18 April and we knew each other for only four months before that, and even in those four months we spent very little time with each other. We had a lot of love for each other, there was a lot of affection, that's why we got married. But today when I look back, I feel that you should take an important step like marriage after thinking carefully. At that time, in the excitement of youth, you don't understand many things. But later you realise.' Aamir Khan said- 'However, I have had a very good life with Reena. So do not take it from this that Reena was wrong. This is not what I meant at all. Reena is an amazing person and we have grown up together in a way, because we were so young when we got married. Reena and I respect each other a lot and we have a lot of love for each other in our hearts. But I feel that no one should take such a big step so soon and in such a hurry at such a young age.' Aamir Khan said about his girlfriend Gauri Spratt- We met by mistake and then we became friends and fell in love. Regarding his marriage with Gauri, he said- We can never be husband and wife. Regarding both his ex-wives, he said that even today he has a special bonding with both of them. Even today he respects both of them and has a good relationship with both of them.
